Just cuz our names is similar, doesn't mean we're related. I just so happened upon Cactus Jack's as my first restaurant critique.
I'm Cactus Kate, self-appointed Mountain restaurant taster, er, critiquer. I like eatin' out and hate to cook, so you'll be seein' lots of these here critiques.
Fer those of you that haven't been to CJ's - its a restaurant and bar - the restaurant area is separate from the bar and can seat up to 60 comfortably inside. Its got a rustic type of feel to it. The bar area is a full-stocked bar with pinball/arcade games and a pool table. Bar seating inside and on an outside patio. Dancing, live bands and Karaoke on different nights.

well ..... I for one will never go back to Cactus Jacks ....
The last time I was going there ...was a Pedelars fair day ..... we were go to the fair and go back to Jack's to eat ..... we were told we could not park any where near that wonderful place or the worst place in Coarsegold.... the Cigarette shack .... we all need that place there like a hole in the head....
The Lady who was there didnt ask nicely .....she was rude and crude .. and said she represented the Death shack and Cactus Jacks ....
Now since I am from San Jose originally and used to go to the Cactus club many a year ago ... I used to like going to Cactus Jacks....
I love the pulled pork ... reminds me of Maui ...with a Western Flare.... I called Cactus Jacks and told them how I felt .... I asked for a return phone call.... and was never called ....
I guess those to places are doing so well they do not need tourist traffic ... or heck Local traffic.... I see they have large numbers at the parking lot always ... or wait ... do they rarely look full now .... no wonder service is better ....

I have eaten there only once and I was highly impressed. I had the pulled pork plate, not a samdwich, and I thought it was great.

Jimi, I am from San Jose also. In fact I am in the 3rd generation born there. When I was born and raised there it was a valley full of fruit trees. When they started filling up the valley with houses I moved away. Now the valley is nothing but houses and Silicon Valley companies. I hate to go there but my sister and her kids still live there so I have to make an annual trek there.

Yep your right concerned, I also miss those orchards, can you believe that Olsen Cherry still has a stand here, and what used to be all orchards are all condo's and Townhouses, they built them all around the Olsens stand after olsens sold the rights to the property.
I still have the Corn Palace right down the street from me, must be the last few acres left in Sunnyvale, must be worth about 10 mil. or so.

Going back to the subject of the restaurant, I went to Cactus Jacks with four other people yesterday after having attended the Peddlers Fair. It wasn't crowded like I thought it would be, what with only three tables seated with customers, mostly two to a table.
The wait we experienced after ordering our meals was more than an hour, and there was some confusion about the wording of the menu concerning which side dishes you could expect to get. Also, we asked for two separate checks and got one, but that's not too bad. the waitress was very nice. I think the cook just had too much to do, so I am trying to be fair and understanding. We all laughed when we overheard another customer say he thought they had gone out to rope the steer first before they could cook his hamburger! If this is how things usually are, I suppose I wouldn't want to go back, just because I think waiting over 60 minutes is kind of extreme, understanding or not. I liked the onion ring stack, though!

Just drove by Cactus Jacks in Coarsegold and noticed it has a "Application for Alcohol Beverage License" Notification in the window.
Maybe we didn't lose our local bar and restaurant!!! Yay!

It's not just another Mexican restaurant...it's Alfonso's. Moving to a bigger space with 41 frontage...they've always been socked away. They used to be in Crab Cakes spot originally, and then they've been hidden at the Teepee village (that's what I call it, anyway). They'll make it in the new spot, I'm pretty sure. I love their food...when they were in Oakhurst several years ago, I used to go there practically everytime I was visiting my brother. Rarely did we ever go to El Cid back in those days.
