there is so many issues here ..... I support stem cell .... but not if they use partial birth abortions......

Also why is the state going to pay for the research .....this is not as simple as stated ....

I like the research .... but not partial birth ... and not having California pay for the research of the pharmacutical companies

So I support stem cell .... just not this prop 71

I agree with you Jimi on the partial birth thing.

I voted yes on your question but I havn't made a firm decision on prop 71 yet. I've read the opinions of both sides and find there are valid points on both sides. I don't find the funding issue to be much of an arguement. The funds will be raised by bonds sales which do not have the same impact as straight tax funding. The state turns around and invests a portion of the money to offset the cost and interest paid on the bonds. The feds just gave billions to pro sports teams that don't deserve or need public money. The thing that does bother me is the free reign the researchers will have. I would feel a lot better if there was an outside body controling the money. When I was with the laborers union years ago I saw our pension fund take a trip to South America never to be seen again. I'm a little weary of such a small group controling such a large chunk of money without oversight. For that reason alone I am leaning against it but my mind may change I have not finished my research into the subject.
For those who wish more info here is some from both sides.

In regards to partial birth abortions I don't believe that's relevant to the question. Those stem cells are the same as adult stem cells it's only at the embryonic stage that the cells are of the same medical significance.
Even though I am pro choice I'm personally against abortion.

So you dont agree with Kerry? hmmmm

but I think we all agree about this, we want the stem research, but we have to be carefull of what might happen if this gets passed, we might start seeing more than usual unexpected birth deaths, or who the heck knows what might happen mothers could sale their unborn baby's for research.

I don't have an answer for that I don't know at what stage of fetal development the stem cells get their genetic imprinting but I know it's at a fairly early stage. I can see where woman selling their eggs might be an issue for some I see that as a far greater possibility.

I am voting Yes. We have to start somewhere and I feel that many diseases will benefit from the research.

I absolutely agree with what Jimi mentioned.NO way do I support partial birth abortions, even if my childs life depended on it. A human life is started at the time of conception..Period!

So far...... fetus or egg stem cell has been a failure... they cannot determine what will develope from the cells...

while an older set of cells is more controllable...... but they want to include fetal stem cells..... and because of the two issues .... I cannot support this ...

But I cannot vote in the poll ... because it is worded way wrong ....

If you ask if you support prop 71 ... I can say no ....

If you ask if I support stem cell research ...I will say under guidlines YES
