I don't normally watch stuff like American Idol, but for some reason I have kept up with this latest season.
Katherine has the body and face of a perfect model and has a beautiful voice but if the voters want to choose which contestant is the better entertainer and has the best stage presence, they should pick Taylor Hicks.
Katherine seems more like a dinner or country club singer who plays it very conservatively and although like I said, she has a knock-out voice, I find her performances lack excitement and energy. Dare I say "boring?"

I agree that Kat was offkey and "pitchy" last night. I wonder, though, if touchy-feely emotions will win her a lot of extra votes, what with the camera always showing her father wiping tears off his cheeks when she sang a song. No fair!
She and her family may be really disappointed if she doesn't win tonight (that would be true anytime a contestant is booted off), but I really hope Taylor wins. The guy was born to entertain. And to be an entertainer takes a lot more than just a good voice or a pretty face. Or even a dad that cries.

I don't know about you, but I find it frightening that Taylor Hicks received more votes than ANY President during an election.

I heard that announcement, too, but it doesn't surprise me. Taylor seemed to go out there and just be himself, even though it was oftentimes a risky venture. The three judges mentioned this several times about Taylor. He made each song his own and I think the voters liked how he remained so true to himself.
His love for singing and entertaining just shone through, whereas in politics, the faces and personalities you see on public display are all too often fake and contrived and downright dishonest.
Maybe Taylor should run for president? I was very happy to see him win last night. Yay! (Even though I originally thought Chris or Mandisa was going to win).

To be honest, I have never watched the show and do not intend to start; as i am sure there will be another 'season'. I cannot, however, escape the media hype. Just by watching the news I am forced to keep up and follow along with AI.
I find it sad when a TV show such as this makes bigger headlines than murders, gas prices, Irag, Government corruption etc.
I just find it frightening that Americans do use their 'one vote' here and feel it will make a difference, but not in any political elections.
Perhaps, this show and shows like are designed to free American Minds of the harsh political realities we are facing.
But, then again, I tend to have an overall negative opinion about television and don't watch network TV as a rule. I am more drawn to A&E, Discovery, and the History Channel.

I'm happy Taylor Hicks won!
I'm an avid watcher as some of you know. It's all entertainment for me...the only entertainment I watch on TV and look forward to each year. I do not vote though...tried before and couldn't get thru. I'm into it, but not that into it. Worse than our poltical voting system, American Idol voters can vote as many times as they like (or can get through). So while 60+ million votes were counted, there weren't anywhere near 60+ million voters. And people of ALL ages and origins can vote, so many younger than 18 can vote too and even people who aren't documented U.S. citizens can vote. I have no faith in Idol's voting system...it's all about luck and popularity, and the biggest fan base. I'm just happy the guy I would have voted to win won...but if he hadn't? Wouldn't bug me too much.

Well...entertainment is just that and I fully understand why it's more popular than politics! Politics is depressing and...well...political. My life is full of enough pressure, what with the high cost of fuel, the threat of terrorist attacks, the threat of bird flu, the threat of every other doomsday threat they like to perpetuate (they meaning the media, not politicians). I don't need to fill my viewing time with it!
I have never watched American Idol before, but I got totally into this one and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a form of escape and has absolutely nothing to do with politics. And like Oakhurstleaf said, the votes on AI in no way represent the number actually voting. I voted about 30 times for Taylor on the last vote.
P.S. Give me a president worth getting excited over, and I'll beat a path to the voting box!!!! :P

http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif Bgirl, I know you're not all about the serious stuff...you are a big fan of Johnny Depp, "Cap'n Jack Sparrow". You also get your entertainment from live Kareoke...This much I know
Well, American Idol is kinda like a televised Kareoke contest with big rewards. And imagine in front of a live televised audience...the contestants have way more guts than I ever would to do what they do.
Oh forgot...there's another contest show I love. It's going into it's second season beginning in June. "Hell's Kitchen"...knowing the intensity of a restaurant kitchen, you might even find this one entertaining. Todd likes this one too and it's on late enough for him to watch it. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/yes.gif Nothin' like entertainment after a long day of work and busy-ness!
