I hope this is the proper place to post this, if not I apologize.

I'm looking for any ghost stories, urban legends, and anything paranormal in particular in the Oakhurst and surrounding areas. I'm working on writing a book documenting haunts in the Central California and currently all I have is Sierra Sky Ranch (which I was lucky enough to investigate).

I am also a member of Central Californai Paranormal Investigators which is a group located in Fresno that investigates haunted areas and documents them as well as researching the background of the locations to learn the history. If anyone has any stories they would like to share or know of any haunts, please e-mail me at michael.ccpi@gmail.com. Thanks.

I lived in the area from '63 till about '84 and the only ghost rumors I ever heard about would have come from the old sanitarium, later on boys school, in Ahwahnee. My grandmother worked there when it was a sanitarium. Lots of rumors, but none of my friends or myself were ever brave enough to check it out for ourselves.

That would probably be the TLC Childrens Center location now. Worked there for awhile, Creepy place.

I would ask someone who works at The Sierra Star or maybe the Fresno Flats Museum. They may know some old timers who know the stories.

I worked for 8 years in a building up here that is home to a playful poltergeist type of spirit. Almost too many encounters to recall them all! Being the last person left in the building at night was a bit spooky!

I got one of those too Mystee. No possible way it could be a malfunction - just one light does it. It freaks me out.

I've heard some of the rumors but wasn't sure, any idea if it's still open or not?

John @ 3300ft, thanks for the suggestion. I'll try that.

Thanks again for the info, definitely gives me something to work on. Like I said, if anyone wants we do investigations in residents. Usually about 5-6 of us come and take pictures and set up video cameras in key locations as well as using voice recorders. We take a purely scientific approach to this and not out looking just for a thrill. A typical investigation can occur over several visits as well as a lot of background research. All free of course. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif I do this as the unknown has always intrigued me as well as the history that is behind these occurences. My group does have a site (though still under construction) Click (http://www.ccpifresno.com/) here if you are interested. I hope this doesn't look like some cheap advertisement, just been trying to get our name out there more and knowing the history of Oakhurst and the area I thought this would be a good place to start. Thanks a bunch.

Yeah, TLC's still open. The address is confidential, mainly because the kids placed there are taken from their families for various reasons. I don't think they would let you set up there, but you could try. The boys home (at the bottom of the hill) used to be the sanitorium, the girls home (near the top of the hill) was a more recent addition I believe. You could call them, but, as I said, it might take some convincing.
I do know of a location in Southern Ca which has a resident spirit. I've encountered her, as have a few other people. She is not one of the well known spirits, and i don't believe the site had ever been investigated.

Given the location of my house and the history of the land on which it sits, I am completely surprised that my house seems to be inhabited by only the living.

I have seen a documentary on the old sanitarium. Most likely on a discovery owned channel

I don't think it so much the location and history of the place and the dead so much as it is who is living there now. It seems there are certain people, for whatever reason, attract the vibrations of the past. I don't think it is evil, malicious or life threatening, but its just like "residue" from past lives that hasn't quite yet left this earth or gone into the earth or whatever. I think spirits linger either because they have unfinished business here or there is someone still alive who hangs on to that spirit. Don't know if thats right or wrong. Hold on or release? I think there's a great Indian presence all over this mountain. I have no doubt that many paranormal experiences lead to that fact. I like it. I like thinking that we are walking on the same ground that our founding fathers (Indians) walked and lived. About the sanatarium. Seems like it has always been a place of sorrow and suffering. First it was a place for TB victims to go. Now, even more heart wrenching, it is a place for children who have been abused and taken from their parents reside. No doubt there are some spirits still residing there. Great sorrow or tragic events seem to trigger paranormal events - look at Gettysburg. Well, after writing all this stuff my little lamp that comes on "at will" may only be an electrical malfunction. Maybe I'll have Electroman come and investigate!

Don't say that Summer - that they follow certain people - We had a ghost in my home growing up- not a mean ghost... not even playful... just there watching us. It wasn't really spooky, but interesting. We never were afraid of him. And then I had a lot of ESP events.

Grew up - moved away to a couple apartments, then a condo, nothing odd... then back to a house in Simi and the interesting visions and presence was back.

Moved here, nothing and hoping nothing! I'm liking that!

If that's the case with the sanatarium then I won't even contact them, I didn't realize abused children were taken there. Out of respect I won't contact them, thanks for letting me know. The emotions there must be strong. Something about a place full of emotions seems to attract ghosts (that's the theory anyways). Schools, theaters, places that have had many types of emotions always have some haunts.

As for the light that's weird. I have a device I bought at RadioShack that plugs into the outlet and tells you if it's wired properly via a series of lights for about $5. But before you do that, try plugging the light into another outlet that is on a different circuit if possible, if it still comes on then the wiring can be ruled out as faulty.

I found this to be true in the building I worked. When the staff was completely and totally at each others throats was when we saw more 'activity'. I always attributed this to our negative energy filling the air and felt it was some how our own doing when things came crashing to the floor even though no one was near the items nor were the items ever placed in such a way to be able to crash to the ground.

I don't think it so much the location and history of the place and the dead so much as it is who is living there now.

Perhaps this would hold true except for the fact I can see three burial grounds from my house and there are 2 more confirmed burial grounds within say a city block or two. Which means...my house sits in the middle of a circle of graveyards. I would think I would pick up on something from time to time.

Every once in a blue moon I get the hair on the back of my neck standing straight up when I go outside late at night....however, I have always figured that to be a big cat or bear just out of sight in the shadows of the night.

My Native American friends say that I have a happy spirit free house because I am happy and proud to live where I do and I try my best to keep the area undisturbed and intact. These same friends have also said that when the time and need arises, it will be quite obvious as to just how many 'people' living or dead are residing in my home. I just have not yet seen that time or felt that need.

Here is another scernario...I feel OK about picking up, moving, bring home some of the things the weather and ground squirrels allow me to see. I have friends that cannot and will not touch or disturb these very same items...they get a bit freaked out about it. Again, My Native American friends to the rescue with and answer. They claim I don't feel queasy or freaked because I am taking the items that are found into safe keeping, and therefore preserving these artifacts for future generations to come (I willingly turn these things over to the proper authorities and I don't mean the sheriff).

Bottom line?? I feel it is all about my energy and the energy of everything past present and future that keeps me spiritual.

Some spirits will come for a visit and some have not gone to the other side.

I strarted getting phone calls at my house in Wa. state about 8 years ago. Total silence on the other end. Called the phone co. couldnt be tracked, caller id didnt work. These phone calls followed me from house to house. I get them at the house I'm in now. Come to find out thru a "medium" it's my Grandpa. He visits us alot. One time I saw him in the hall looking in CJ's room. Then he disappeared into the wall.

My daughter Dakota has seen my Grandma, she even told her about a new book she got. One time Dakota walked into the bathroom and my grandma was in there brushing her hair.

If you have a ghost that you don't want in your home just tell it to go to the tunnel to the other side. (I read alot of Sylvia Browne)

I think you should check out the Wawona and Ahwahnee Hotels.

Oh no KK, I didn't mean that at all. I meant that I think some people are able to pick up on sprits more readily than others, no matter where they are - if there is a spirit there. By no means do I believe spirits can travel from place to place and follow their channelers like pets! lol My sister lives in an old refurbished farmhouse in W. Virginia. They have stuff happening there a lot. Mostly lights going on and off by themselves - even where there is no electricity like in the barn. I haven't been there yet but I'm pretty sure I'm going this year. Will be interesting as I like this stuff. They bought this property without the knowledge of it being haunted and after so many years they got the courage to ask around and lo and behold the whole town knew about it! Guess the real estate people thought it best to keep this under raps to the "Californee people" so as to be able to sell it! But its not bad or anything, just maybe a little annoying when you need the lights on or off at a certain time.

My sweetie is an electrician, so we know its not the outlet, plus, its not a light that plugs in, its a ceiling light, but there have been many things in the two kids rooms. I'ts interesting, I think it creeps me out more than the kids. But we've lived in several houses that had unexplainable events going on.

My deceased grandma or grandpa was visiting last night.

I woke up at 4:12am and the lamp beside my bed was on. The one that blinks.

Then the girls said they saw a ghost in thier room. Delaney saw it first it was green and had a hole where the heart is. (my grandpa died of a heart attack and my grandma had a hole in her heart) it reached into thier bathroom and turned the light off then back on. That woke up Dakota she saw it go out thier bedroom door into the house. Thats probably when it headed to my room.
Cj was fell asleep on the couch in the front room. Sammy was laying next to CJ. I never heard Sammy no bark growl nothing. CJ never woke.

I told the girls yea no biggie it was grandma or grandpa next time talk to it.
Then CJ said Mom the ghost left a present. It's this blue kid jewlery thing. It's not a ring or necklace doesnt have a hook where a chain can go thru. They never seen it before usually they will fight over something and I've never seen it.

That was are excitement this morning.

A house my group recently investigated, the owner has a family member that likes to make themselves known from time to time, usually by turning the radio on in the middle of the night. It even happened while we were there, which was rather exciting. Makes me feel better in a sense that even when loved ones pass on they are still there looking after us.

I dont need ghosts in my house cos where I work... we have ghostly visits on a regular basis. Its really wierd when you see something in your peripheral vision. Freaks me out, yet its cool. We had a nurse who passed away... she worked nites with me, she makes 4am visits and we know she is visiting when call lights go off in vacant rooms..... one nite we went in and talked to her... said " Ok ok.. we know you know we are sending out for dinner.. now what do ya want to eat?".
When I was in the great barrier reef on Dunk Island last October, I had a ghostly visiter in my room.. it was a male spirit... and it/he just sorta hung out in the hallway outside the bathroom to my cabana. It wasnt scarey.. just spooky. I havent a clue as to who it was though.

Well the kids were afraid to go to bed last night.

I explained to them that there is no reason to be scared. It's just great grandma or great grandpa visiting you.

I think I need to work on that for awhile.

Delaney asked me this morning if anyone came to visit, I said no..she said no visited us either.

I would like to know who's calling though. I think it's my Granpa. He was the only one I knew who passed when the phone calls started.

Yea the first thing Wolfie said was "so what were you drinking last night?" lol

One night during the week I woke up to go to the bathroom. It was pitch black. I never close my bedroom door. The girls sleep on the other side of the house 2250 sq ft. I'm afraid if I close the door I wont be able to hear anything.
So anyway I get up find my way to the bathroom thinking why is it so dark. The porch light is on and the fire from the wood stove gives off light. The elect. was on. But I just went back to bed. In the morning my bedroom door was closed. I asked the kids if they got up and closed my door, they all said no.

Friday night I wake up to a creek crack then boom of the big oak. I get up look out the window then went back to bed. I'm laying there and I hear more creeks and cracks more booms. So I get up and my freaken bedroom door is closed again. I walk around the house looking out all the windows. Go back to my room to look out that window again and I see this white swirling light above the oak. I go back to the front room to see if there was truck parked with one of those white swirling lights on it. Nothing. I go back to my room look out the window again and its still there swirling above the big oak. It was actually very pretty. I walked around again looking for maybe a person with a flash light, Nothing.

I'm a very spiritual person so I chalked it up to an Angel protecting the tree. Cause I was about to have a limb come thru my bedroom window.

My bedroom door, I'm chalking up to one of my deceased Grandparents. I know they come to visit.

Last time I would wake up to my bedside lamp on now its the door.

I have a spirit at work, although I haven't seen her since I've been back. I've talked about her before. Not sure what the ground the preschool was built on, but I think she's some sort of a teacher. 19th century schoolteacher. She wanders around the windows looking in on me, and when I'm in the other room I've seen her looking thru the door of my classrom at us. None of the other teachers at the school have seen her, but I think they're just not open to accepting her. I've talked to a couple of people on the forums about her, I believe she's just there to watch over us.

thats cool Dodge.

my house has been ghost free. I feel my ghosts when im out in the world... driving. I swear, my dad has watched over me and kept me out of a few wrecks... ie cars coming head on to me etc ...... I actually look forwar to visits from a fellow RN who died last August. She comes round.. turns on call lights... and just checks in on me and fellow RN Ellen. I think she misses us. (we miss her too).

Ghosts = the deceased that wont go toward the light to get to the other side. Ghosts are earthbound.

Spirit = The deceased that have crossed over but come here for an occasional visit.

Angel = Appointed by God. Angels were never people and a person cannot become an angel.

Spirits do have some power to protect you.
Angels have endless power to protect you.

I do think it was an Angel hovering over the big oak.

The only ghost story I know of that I really believed was told to me by Beth Seither, now Beth Nepaial. She was working at the Coarsegold Fire Station and one night her cot started shaking really hard with her in it. She was the only female working there at the time and when she ran into the mens side of the living quarters they were all in bed.
