What is too young? what age will you or did you allow your son or daughter to go out ALONE http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/eusa_dance.gif on their first date??????Do you think it makes a difference between boy or girl on their ages?

I think it depends on the individual. One person can be mature enough at age 16 and another might never reach emotional maturity, no matter how old they get. I've never told my sons they were "too young" or "too old" for anything, but just tried to guide them safely through their "at home" years.

aaaahhhhh, dating this is going to be very scary especially with kids these days. If you don't "score" on your fist date your a loser. Then they can lie which well give your kid a bad rep.
Dating is hard for an adult.....
I am so not looking forward to this.

Ive been trying not to think about it too. But since my husband and I started dating during my sophmore year of highschool, its gonna be kind of hard to tell our daughter that she cant date until shes much older than that. As an individual I want to say 16 is reasonable, but as a parent .. no .. as a parent of a girl, I want to say 20. But as my husband points out, that makes me a hypocrite. When these female teachers were recently caught with male students I made a huge argument for how it was just as wrong for an adult woman to sleep with a student as it was for an adult male. Good question Linda! Got me thinking and rethinking.

I also have a girl, 18 now. I have to disagree with your husband a little bit. If you did something when you were young, and it wasn't a good idea, you are not a hypocrite when you tell your kid not to do it. You're the parent. You're giving your kid the benefit of the experience you had. If you robbed a bank, and you told your daughter not to do that, you aren't a hypocrite...why wouldn't that apply to dating? It worked well with you and your husband, but that's rare and things are tougher now. It's fair to tell your daughter that 16 is too young for single dates but not group dates. That's what we did.
