Looks the same as about a month ago...

The thing that bothers me about some of the new places opening up is the ingress/egress situation. Oakhurst seems to have severely outgrown its road infrastructure and we already have a bad enough problem trying to maneuver through town. Especially attempting left turns.

Tried to make a left turn out of Victoria Lane (over by Erna's) yesterday and go back toward Oakhurst and I must have sat there half an hour before there was a break in Highway 41 traffic from both directions. There was a long line of cars ahead of me trying it.

Over by Jack in the Box, I wonder how hard it's going to be to get in and out of there. I hate that whole section over there by Vons gas station. It is the "fender bender" (and worse) center of town.

And as far as traffic lights and stop signs go, it would really help if drivers actually paid attention to them. I am seeing red-light runners almost every time I drive through there. One time a week or so ago, four people drove through a red light, like a train. Also, I think a lot of drivers forgot the rules of four-way stops.

BGW
Jun 21, 2005, 09:39 AM
What is up with that intersection?(49 and Junction Drive-Von's)

Way back when...the booklet I read in order to get my driver's license, said that people going straight and turning right have the right-of-way at an intersection. And, yet, if I am turning left and wait for those turning right and going straight, they will sit there and wave me on through. All the while, the cars behind me get impatient.

I also seem to remember that same booklet stating when making a right turn to turn into the safest lane possible which is not always the outside lane. it truly is safer to turn inot the inner lane for left turning onto 41. Otherwise you may not get let in or you end up having to unsafely cut someone off.

And, yet, I can't begin to tell you how many times I have almost been broadsided by people turning left. It is always my stupidity or at least that is what the look on their faces says.

For some unknown mystery reason, people seem to forget all their driving rules and skills at that intersection! Perhaps, it is an alien controled area.

I asked my JIB managemant team friend. The schedualed opening is Aug 1. It is supposted to be a "Mach8" store, whatever that means. She said it will have the latest and greatest that Jack has to offer.

Alrighty then.. we'll put them all in front of your exit on 415 and then see if you'll like it, not only will you be picking up trash all day, but you'll have to dodge the cars going in and out of these Fast Food Restaurants, not to speak of the drive thru's...

One of the reasons to move out to Oakhurst was to get away from the traffic, crowds, and thousands of fast foods restuarants.

Within a mile of me I have 2 of every fast foods availiable, also a Costco, Target, Home Depot, Frys, Petco, Pet smart, K-mart, Kohls, 2 Orchard supply's, 3 Safeways, nobhill, 2 longs Drugs, Rite Aid, 2 Round tables, Chicago Pizza, Shakees, Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears, 2 Macy's, Fish Market, Armadilly Willies, Mr Chao's, Marie Calenders, Big lots, JC Pennys, Toys R Us, Ross, Sport Mart, Office Depot, and now there biulding a Lowes right down the street.

and by no means did I name them all, I think John could add a hundred more http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/yes.gif

But where does it stop?? Whats Progress?, and how far does progress go???

I would hate to see Oakhurst lose it Country/Mountain type appeal, if it already has started to lose it now!!!
I love it here, so where does it stop?

How many fast foods do you really need for more choices?

It will never stop..

Now Coarsegold is really getting in on the "action" of progess. Pretty soon this place will be a mini? metropolis.. and we will have four lanes running up and down the mountain. We will have ruined our town, our small-town feel, our escape, along with Yosemite.

The appeal to these small towns up in the mountains is obvious. But money talks, bull**** walks and I tell ya.. the people who will buy up Murray Ranch, the land by O'Neals, and the land for sale in Coarsegold are going to do it with the thought of a buck or two (millions).

Think we have water problems now? Think we have traffic issues, or gang problems. Come talk to the "locals" in about 20 years. This is only the beginning to Suburbia Oakhurst/Fresno.

Brew, having a bad day? http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink3.gif

I, too, had all of that when I was in L.A. & now can't even have a pizza delivered. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/laugh.gif

Personally, a fast food place that I might actually eat at is going to be a nice addition. Won't eat at McDonalds, don't really care for Carl's & since someone told me about the maggot issue at KFC, I really can't stomach their place.
No comment on Taco Bell, but the kids like it..

And, sometime in the near future there probably will be something put on the 415 cutoff. Oh well, that's progress for ya....

I think it's funny that we, (the people living up here) consider a new business "bad" or "unnecessary" if it doesn't fit our personal criteria. If WE like it, then it must be good.

Example....I hate the new Starbucks, But am very happy about Jamba Juice. Like we NEED another Coffee Place... (I still go to Yosemite Coffee)
Not hypocritical, just the truth.

As for trash, the road near my place (10 or so miles from town) is littered with 12 packs and trash from Wendys, Taco Bell, all of them... almost every weekend. If people are gonna throw it out, they're gonna throw it out. I don't think there's a Wendy's within 40 miles of my place.... http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/shout.gif

Progress is apparently what it's all about....When I was a kid I lived on a ranch which was bought from us and the Northridge Mall was built on the land. My corrals were where Sears now stands. Sure, I don't want a bunch of crap buildings built in town, but it's gonna happen. Just like the real locals didn't want all of us Tech Hermits coming up here & buying their land...Now THEY have a reason to be pissed. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/laugh.gif

Well, I have to agree with Dodgergirl that it will happen. It will get a lot more uglier too. The people in control of what is built here have buckets of money and the locals will have no say. I know - been through it. When we moved to Canyon Country (town outside of Valencia, So. Cal.) in 1988 it was a rural country place just like Oakhurst. Enter the "Developers" who methodically incorporated all the small towns into a City (Santa Clarita) seated their allies on the City Board, who had voted in incorporation, then bought up the land (every sq. inch of it) and built, built, built until now there is no open space at all. The people fought long and hard but it was no match for $$$$$! That place is a nightmare now, too much traffic, over inflated housing, bursting at the seams. Broke my heart - but it happened. Thats why I say beware of incorporating Oakhurst into cityhood. The only people who will benefit will be the money mongers - they will rape the place, stuff their pockets, then leave, not caring what happens in their wake. I know I will not be able to stop it when it comes, but in the meantime, I will enjoy my Breakfast Jack and be happy that JIB is the biggest thing to be built recently. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/hungry.gif

Amen! That's one of the main reasons we left the SCV. It used to be such a "friendly" town and a great place to live and raise your children. Now when I go down there to visit my office, I just can't wait to get back home to the mountains. Not everyone sees it that way though. One of my best friends lives in Northridge, and she can't understand why I won't move back. Believe me, making the big bucks is not worth the life you have to deal with in living down there. Not to mention that English is pretty much the second language.

Sorry for swaying from the topic, but I just wanted to vent. I just hope and prey Oakhurst stays as it is because I sure do love my home.

And where in California is it not? Maybe if you go to Canada - but then you have French as the primary language. Maybe we should just settle down and learn espaniol. I may just do that as I'm going to Mexico in October!! http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/eusa_dance.gif

OK back on topic.
Why is it taking so long?

Construction of any building always seems fast when the sticks are put up. A 3 person crew can have a house framed in less than a week.

But when you get to the work of detail stuff like plumbing, mechanical and electrical things start to slow down especially with Commercial buildings because you have a lot stricter codes to follow like Fire systems and such. Then the finish work like drywall and fixtures seem to take forever.

I’m glad a fast food is on MY SIDE of town I hate going onto 41 just to go pick something up I usually cut across Rayleys parking lot to get to the Coffee place or mini mart if I have to.

This isn't to say that there is anything wrong with people who look forward to Jack in the Box -- they can eat anything they like. I was just wondering, though, about the situations when a new fast food restaurant opens up .... the lines and crowds are really something! Then it tapers off to what you might expect to be "normal."

The thing I am wondering is, what is the big rush and attraction to go to a common chain restuarant that opens in a new location? Is the new restaurant maybe going to be offering a dining experience that is different than the other 1,000-plus ones that people eat at on a regular basis?

Honestly, this is not sarcasm or anything negative -- I truly just wonder.

If your really excited about Fast Food and want to see Fast Food Restaurants, come to the Bay Area we have thousands, every corner, every name, and the wrappers/trash, litter the streets for miles and miles...

And ya wonder why so many people are obese, I'm glad there taking fast foods out of schools, and give the kids a fighting chance, that and the soda machines, another belly killer http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif

I fight everyday to not gain weight, its a big struggle, T.C. tells me she wants me to be healthy and life longer, knowing that men die a lot younger than woman, and since I already have a head start since I'm older than her, and besides...for me I feel better, healthy, energetic, and a lot happier not being obese, even though I still think I'm overweight.
