we are building in a new subdivision, advertised as having "power on site" - and indeed, there are 3 poles along our road frontage. PG&E sez that they will need to hang a transformer to bring reliable power to us, as power can't be supplied reliably at a greater distance than 250' from the pole with the transformer. They suggest that the cost (about $6,000?) could be split among neighboring properties. However, the 2 adjacent lots to the W & E have/are being developed, and the 3 lots to the north have had to split the cost of a transformer that is too far away to serve us.
Is there any recourse? If the developer promises power, should we have to pay extra for a transformer? If PG&E has "discounted" the cost of the neighboring transformer, shouldn't the same be extended to us?
