"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American.. There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag.. We have room for bt one langage here, and that is the English language.. and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

For the most part I agree completely. Still, isn't it strange that we discriminate against immigrants with regards to our most powerful public office? And stranger still, how can I agree with discriminating against them for the office of president, yet agree with Roosevelt's quote?

unless the rules for becoming president have changed, one must be a natural born citizen to become the president !!!

I don't care if other people come into this country, but what I do think is WRONG is printing ballots in any language other that english. I also hate going to the store and having to flip a box around to find the side printed in english.

Has anyone noticed how several fast food resturants in town should have a sign on their door "We also speak English"
I think that it is extremely rude to only speak Spanish when many speak English well. (Are they speaking to illegals working with them?)
My families came from France, England, Ireland, and some from Germany. They applied for and recieved permission to enter this country Legally!!!! They soon adopted the ways of their new land. They loved the "old country" but they were now Americans.
America could solve the illegal immigrant problem by giving Arizona, Texas and California back to the Mexicans. OH YEA, WE ALREADY HAVE !!!!

If Germany had the same law as US, Hitler would never have come to power. He was Austrian born.

Nah, he would have done it one way or another.

Wasn't there some kinda move going on to amend the Constitution so a foriegn born, naturalized citizen could run for president. Like wasn't that goin on right after Karl Rove had Schwarziwhatever installed as governor?

Here I go with my mind wandering off topic again, but I was thinking of Hitler. His father was Alois. Alois's third wife, Klara, was actually his niece. Klara gave birth to Adolf. So, I guess Adolf's mother was actually his cousin. Do I have that right? http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/freak.gif

I think Klara was Alois's second cousin. At least that's what I remember reading. Apparently Alois's father was never known for sure. Does anyone know? It has been awhile since I read about this...
