Bar none...the best on the mountian. The owner is Yoko Savage and her hospitality is warm and her food comforting. She is a small business, and it is difficult at times to provide "fast" service. So be patient. Good food takes time to prepare. You should not be disapointed. Enjoy. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/smash.gif

If that's the place with "Japanese Restaurant" out front, they're a real nice change from the local fast food. I went & ordered sushi & the lady took out all of the fresh ingredients & proceeded to create some really good combinations. I'd say it was better than Oka's and a lot cheaper, too.
(if it's not the place with "Japanese restaurant" out front, go there instead) http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/laugh3.gif http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink2.gif

My grandfather served a 20 year mission in Japan ....

When I called her and asked if she served good food.... she said ... " I serve normal Japanese food, not fancy stuff like Oka's" I said what do you mean .... she said " I serve what they eat in Japan" ..... we went ... I am hooked ....

Her food is good prices are good... and it is like the little places I love in SF .....

I have been there and really liked it. They do serve fresh food and they also have flavored teas in bottles, when I was there last it was hot out and the lady gave me a cold bottle, it was really good. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/hungry.gif

My brother and I had dinner at Kyotot Cafe on Tuesday night. The food was delicious! I had the Tempura Combo entree which includes shrimp and veggie tempura, miso soup, salad, and steamed rice. For an appetizer my bro and I shared some sashimi. The sashimi appetizer was almost a meal in itself! Three slices of salmon, three of hamachi, and three of something else...yellow tail maybe? My brother had the chicken teriyaki appetizer, and he wolfed it down before I could get some! The food was very fresh and the service was great, and the prices are low! This just might be my new favorite Oakhurst eatery!

Hey this is good to know. As a part timer fromthe Bay area I was real skeptical of finding decent Japanese so far inland. Maguro keeps well but not alot of other raw fish.
We tried Oka earlier this month and it was pretty good but the sashimi wasn't the best and it was rather pricey. Thanks for the tips gang!

I do have to say that there are several places in Japan town of San jose that are better ... but not here...

And not as inexpensive

I had lunch there a few weeks ago, my first time there. I ordered the vegetable tempura and it was delicious, could have eaten a double order but I also had some white rice. Service was good and everyone got something different: some had the shrimp tempura as well as the vegetable tempura or the the special lunch with the miso soup etc. Everyone (7) was pleasantly surprised. I met a guy that was in the war, he said in all the years he'd been in the state he has never been able to find a soup that he favored there in Japan, until he found it there at Kyoto Kafe. Curious about the conviction that this guy had with this certain soup, I had to try it and it was awesome. Full of seafood and vey tasty! Don't quite remember the name, but it started with a "C" and they have one that has noodles and beef and then the other has noodles and shrimp, scallops, and fish. Highly recommeded!

I have to agree, I have eaten there a couple of times and it has been great. Maybe I'll have to go for lunch next week! http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/hungry.gif
