I have a friend who is quite ill. She's been through years of cancer/chemo, and seemed to get better, now she is on the list to get a bone marrow transplant, which involved months of treatment at a hospital in the bay area...which of course I can't think of the name of now, anyhow. her family is trying to get a loan, so they can pay to have other people tested, her sisters weren't a match and she has to pay for lodging next to the hospital for almost 3 months! she also has a young son at home. I want to help with a fundraiser, but want some ideas. I was going to do the See's Candy thing, but they said they only do it if we are invoved with an organization, which we're not at this time.
Any suggestions would be welcome, I want to get started on this ASAP.
Thanks!

The dinner Casey did to help with the cost for her son's trip/treatment helped out a lot with the costs. Maybe something like that would be a good option.

I'll be happy to donate banner space on these forums to promote any fundraiser event you setup.

Just a few ideas that may or may not work...
Big community garage sale, car wash, spaghetti/tritip,etc dinner with auction, get a group together to do weed whacking/yard work for a weekend, selling firewood.
I'm already registered as a marrow donor, and I'd be happy to donate a room night at the NGI if you do an auction. Best of luck!

If you can get a group of 10-12 friends together to do raking for a weekend soon, I have tons of it that needs to be done up at the Inn and the money I would pay temp employees can go to your friend. It would be a way to raise $1,000 or more as a group, and I want it done SOON. Let me know if you are interested.

Unfortunatly I don't know that many people to do raking, or that would be awsome! I think I'm going to look into the spagetti dinner thing. I'll have to talk to Casey and see just how she did it, I'm not sure how much all that costs and I don't have a lot of money myself.
I've been dreaming this stuff, I think maybe a Big Yard sale/Bake sale would be cool. But I have to find somewhere to have it, My driveway isn't very friendly that way, since it's so steep.
Thank you Sandman for offering a banner, I will probably take you up on it, as soon as I figure out exactly what I'll be doing.
Thanks for all the ideas!!

Wonder if you could talk Von's or Raleys into donating some supplies for a spaghetti feed. Also, I have seen bake sales on occasion in front of Raleys. Or maybe in front of one of the other stores at the Von's shopping center, or in front of the Sierra Star, and then they could do a story on it too. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

There should be 10 or 12 people on these boards that could help with raking...Epic and I are available next Sunday. We can donate some stuff for spaghetti, as well. Just let us know.
I can talk to our social worker to see what's available for families at Stanford, which is where I assume your friend is going.

Sunday works great for me if a group wants to come up with rakes. Let me know.

well, Unfortunately the next 2 weekends I have things going on that would prevent me from doing anything http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/cry.gif I am going to see if I can find someone who knows Robin to help oversee and help organize things since I can't be there, this is an opportunity I don't want to pass up.
I apprecaite everyones willingness to help.

Myst, if this is a woman with a son with special needs, I know some more people who we can round up. If it's the woman I'm thinking of, and her son just went to Mississippi with a group from our church, I can talk to the leader who took them there about rounding up the kids to rake.

Yes, that is exactly who, and I am really feeling the need to do something! Her son is my husbands godson.
I wonder if I could sell the candy bars from see's at work, if I am connected with the youth group?
Anyhow. I wanted to call stanford too, because I think I would need to set up some sort of account, I don't think it should just be cash handed over to the family, but for monies to be put in an account to be taken out for what she needs to pay for her testing and so forth. Does that make sense?

I need to get the raking done by Wed of next week, so if I don't hear something concrete by this Saturday, I will contact a school club and see if they want to rake instead of wash cars. It's a great opportunity for some organization and will also help us out.

Ok, I'm going to make a post. I feel silly asking people to donate their time to rake when I can't even be there. But I don't want to let this opportunity get away. Any suggestions?
