I tried for over half an hour, repeatedly hitting the repeat dial and only getting a busy signal. There has to be a better way - like taking the 10th caller.

I tried repeatedly from the start time, 6:00 p.m.--and got through at approximately 6:10 p.m.--probably dialed about 30 times before getting through. My first choice for a block was gone, but I was delighted to get my second choice (Todd's Restaurant certificates for my boyfriend).
