Has anyone visited Dr. Blodgett's practice in Oakhurst? Anyone have any opinions, good or bad, on your experience?

Our granddaughter was at St Agnes emergency room twice and they sent her home twice. Her condition got worse. Dr. Blodgett accurately diagnosed her condidtion and admitted her for treatment.
She spent 10 days in the hospital, but she is just fine now.
I recommend him highly.

What kind of doctor is Dr. Blodgett? General medicine for all ages or does he specialize?

Dr. Blodgett is wonderful. His view is a bit different than other physicans. He doesn't just treat the problem; he treats the person.

He is general medicine with a focus on holistic medicine. We were intrigued, so we tried it out with one of our kids as the patient. It was just a checkup/lifestyle evaluation. He seemed like a nice person, but unfortunately he used applied kinesiology as a diagnostic technique. Since this process has been thoroughly debunked in double blind experiments it immediately raised my red "quack" flag. We will not be going back because I feel that any doctor that willingly uses invalid techniques is a danger to their patients. It was disappointing, to say the least, because on the whole I like the idea of using a healthy lifestyle to solve problems at the root, instead of just treating symptoms. It is frustrating that so often the people who believe in this philosophy also believe in things that are undeniably wrong (such as applied kinesiology, magnets, etc). For those who believe these things are not wrong, he seems like he would be an excellent doctor.

Wow. I never knew he did AK. An MD that does AK? Now that's odd.

(From what i've heard, using/doing applied kinesiology is one of the best ways to quickly rid a practice of patients.)

I understand completely your unwillingness to have AK involved in any of your family's care. A point I'd like to make, though, is that if Dr. Blodgett communicated with you that he used this practice, and he's a good physician otherwise, consider keeping him. I've met too many physicians who do not speak openly with patients, and to be honest, I've chosen one for myself who is not the most excellent doctor but is open to everything I have to tell him and is the most easily reachable by both the hospital and his office. One of the MDs at the hospital actually practices medicine a little better but is no good to me because when we need to reach him/her we can't. Keeping communication with your doctor is key. Most of them value patients who actually tell them what they want instead of just accepting what they say. It saves time and grief for both parties.

Thats what I like about my doctor. She is easy to talk to, easy to reach, and very easy going.. plus the fact that I remember her as a wee resident at my hospital kinda helps too http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif. Nothing irks me more than a doctor who doesnt answer my pages when i need her/him NOW!!

This was a first visit and we knew going in that we might not be comfortable with his approach. Just an experiment that we hoped would pay off, but unfortunately didn't. Your points are good ones Kimpossible, but if a doctor does something I feel is bogus and does it with full belief in its veracity, then I don't care how open or accessible they are. It just kills all the trust for me, instantly. Even if they understand our concerns and never use the technique again I'll always remember their first (probably most honest) choice. I just can't feel comfortable with that.

I dont have any experience with this particular doc, but I have been sending my husband to a holistic in Fresno because the local docs have proven themselves as idiots to me. Ive been studying alternative medicine for years. I have a lot of faith in most of the practices involved. kinesiology is not one of them. I say move on until you find someone youre comfortable with. In my case, that doctor is not in the mountain area.

I see your point, absolutely. It's hard to trust someone with your little ones; and a first impression gone wrong is tough to overcome. But I hope in the future that if you might be uncomfortable with anything a physician suggests, that you don't go along with it and hope for the best. That was kind of the point I was shooting at; I like it when my patients tell me that they don't agree with a goal or a treatment that's planned because it isn't gonna work if they don't put all they can into it. And I hate when people do something they really didn't want to just because we thought it was best. It often comes out best for them but they still resent it.

My existing physician fired me and I had to find another doctor. Thank goodness. I have had abdominal problems since I was 9 years old. First visit and he got my main discomfort pretty much solved with a dietary supplement. Amazing but no cramps or abdominal pain. I have many issues to be addressed but being able to eat food is wonderful. Dr. Blodgett is an excellent diagnostician.
