Yeah, I can't wait.

Read the advertiser today and they have an ad for PT help. Was thinking about applying for a relaxing job on the weekends or something.. but I doubt they would hire me so far into my pregnancy. Still, I will be a regular there (much to my husband's chagrin).

Jai sent in his resume the other day. It would be a good job for him.

Info was in the last issue of Sierra Star.

If they don't clean the place up prior to opening would that make it a Dirty Book Store? LOL

According to the Sierra Star:

Bookstore to open in Oakhurst

Willow Bridge Books, an independent bookstore, is scheduled to open on Independence Day weekend in the Raley's shopping center in Oakhurst.

Monica McClanahan, a Coarsegold resident, is the owner and manager of the new retail business.

Willow Bridge is partially named after the Willow Creek that flows through the area.

"My vision for a bookstore is to serve as a 'bridge' between what is best in books and the greater Oakhurst community including the many thousands of visitors we have from around the country and the world," McClanahan said. "Our goal is to offer range of national and regional books for adults and children alike. We plan to offer a unique shopping experience for books as well as related specialty products."

Willow Bridge Books will also participate in the national Book Sense marketing network that has more than 1,200 independent bookstores in 50 states including 160 in California.

Consumers in the greater Oakhurst area will be able to see book recommendations from independent bookstores throughout the U.S.

Soon customers will also be able to purchase books online at www.willowbridge.com, (http://www.willowbridge.com,) which will have access to more than one million titles.

"We are delighted to offer consumers a true 24/7 service when it is more convenient to purchase online," McClanahan said.

McClanahan recently retired as an IT consultant in the Los Angeles area and moved Coarsegold in 2005 along with her son's family.

"Our goal is to provide a true community service while offering a similar unique shopping experience to the many tourists who visit," she said."We plan to be flexible in meeting our customers' needs including the school children throughout the area."

Well that sounds awesome - we have often bemoaned the lack of a full-service bookstore in Oakhurst!

I checked out the new bookstore this afternoon after a movie, a trip to the hardware store and a quick stop in Raley's. Gotta say I like what I see so far, ALOT. Spoke to the owner and they are open to a book club (perhaps more than one for different genres) and a writer's club meeting in-store after hours. (I started the sign-up sheet for email notification of an initial meeting)

There's alot of variety in the shop and in all reality a good bit of room to grow with the way they've laid out the store to open. WOOHOO!!
I have a list of about 5 books I want come payday already...

I LOVE having local stores but once again, the prices kept me away. I wanted to get the full Twilight series in Hardcover for my daughter. They are over $20 each at Willowbridge and I got all 4 on Amazon for $47 and free shipping. I did call to see if they could match the price before I placed the online order but they were unable to and said that at that big of a price difference they would reccommend I buy the cheaper set. :(

I try buy a couple books at Willow for every ten I buy online just to do my local part. Honestly, I'm a bit surprised they are still in business but am also very glad.

They do have a program where if you buy x number of books you get one free. I'm also a little suprised they are still open, but love spending time (and thus $) there.

I love having a bookstore in this town. Unfortunately they are quite expensive. I buy about two dozen a year (not counting yard sales, book sale at the library). Usually through Amazon, sometimes at Costco (they are usually 50% or more off cover price there), and the rest at Willow Bridge. I have received about three "free" books there, and I am one away from getting my first "free" child's book (my daughter buys books there).

It makes me quite happy to go to the bookstore, even if I am just browsing. Although it is quite small, I can spend upwards of two hours in there.

Jai goes there quite often... he has received quite a few free books.... he also uses the coupon in the local daily news sheet to receive a gift certificate... these range from $1-$20.

As long as I can, I'll continue spending the full retail price at Willow Bridge. It's one of the local businesses that I would hate to see go.

Then you can always get credit for part of the full price at Willow Bridge by trading the non-keepers in at The Coarsegold Book Peddlar.

I just can hardly part with a hard cover book. Paper backs, I loan out and don't care if I ever get back, take them to the senior center or to the library. BUT, there is just something about a hard cover book. I love the way they feel in my hands, the way they smell and I just love having lots of book shelves to store them on so I can go back and read them again.

If my bookclub buys our books there we get a discount.

I like to go in there to shop for gifts for the bookclub gals.
