Officers arrests woman at scene of tornado
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MERCED - Allegedly driving without a seat belt and no driver's license in an area where law enforcement officers are providing traffic control is a good way to get a citation.
Driving in the same area in a stolen car is a sure way to go to jail as 44-year-old Priscilla Marie Olivas, of Merced found out, said California Highway Patrol Officer Shane Ferriera.
The arrest occurred Tuesday around 3:30 p.m. when CHP officers were directing traffic after a roof ripped off a barn by a tornado landed on Gerard Avenue blocking traffic.
CHP Officer Mike Kolodziej reported stopping a Chevrolet Astro van driven by Olivas in the 8900 block of Mission Road to let the driver know the road was closed. He noticed the driver was not wearing a seat belt.
A vehicle check showed the SUV was reported stolen in Merced, and Olivas was arrested, the officer said.
She was booked into Merced County Jail on suspicion of vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.
