This is the first Christmas in many years that I'll be in California. My Mom is in Utah and my Grandmother was in Utah until she passed in August. For those reasons, I have spent Christmas in Utah for the last several years. Now, my Mom doesn't want to have a traditional Christmas since her Mom is not here to be with us. So, she is going to come out here for New Years to visit instead of my sister and I going there for Christmas. We will spend New Years at my sisters in San Francisco.

So, for Christmas I'll be chillin' here in the mountains. My Dad will probably come up, so I'll be with my little brother this year. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/nice.gif

I answered "No Traveling" since I'm not traveling for Xmas... but I am going to travel on New Years.

As a kid we always had to go from house to house, except when we spent christmas up here at my grandparents. As a kid I liked staying in one place for Christmas, then I could play with all my new stuff.
As an adult and mother with 3 kids, I would much rather stay home, and we do. I have started my own Christmas traditions with my family. Christmas eve is baking day and the kids get to help. It's messy but its fun. Christmas eve night, we get to open one present. Then the kids get to put out whatever they want for Santa. Of course Christmas morning is so much fun and total chaos with the kids. But thier home all day to play with thier new stuff. We are also making it a tradition to go to Disneyland after Christmas. That's my favorite time of year to go. While down there we stay with family, then head back home.
As my kids get older, i want all 3 of them to set thier own traditions on what they would like to do over Christmas. That way everyone is involved and hopefully they can carry out that tradition when they have thier own family's. A tradition I grew up with started with my grandpa. Opening one gift Christmas eve night.
Christmas at my house is a blast, its my favorite time of year.

Share your traditions with us.

I wish I could have Christmas at my house! Unfortunately my husband and I both come from divorced families and have to spend part of Christmas with each of them. We'll be visiting Coalinga, Visalia, Fresno and Placerville over the holiday. Yikes.

Our new tradition is to buy a board game and special ornament every Christmas. Once we have kids I'm going to be more insistent about having our own Christmsa at home, but can't do that just yet!

Going to spend Christmas Eve here at home for sure, not entirely sure if my children will be here (I am divorced). Christmas Day we will be here mostly from what I gather. My children will be gone the afternoon of Christmas (difficult to seperate them from me on Christmas but last year they left in the morning, and that was downright depressing and awful for me) So this year I get the morning with them. Going to cook up a ham one of those days, make cookies and fudge and things...

Oh right about family... my ex's parents and ex are in Coarsegold so my children will be travelling there, but that is about all the travelling I can predict. My family are all on the East Coast and I can't see me flying there, so homeward bound I am.

i answered NO travelling.. cos I don't count drivng to fresno for work travelling http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/nice.gif. I always work on Christmas.... always have. I don't really get into the hols. Ive no kids, no religion.... Im still working out some sort of holiday tradition. Basically, its find a special something(s) that i and my housemate want.. and we go out shopping for it/them. Im always off for New Years... I don't go out, but i stay home and cook my new New Yrs tradition.... live lobsters from Maine on NY Eve...(well, live until i dunk them into hot boiling water that is). This Year for new years im comptemplating checking out the NY Eve party at The Blue Heron in YLP.

Even though my kids are grown, they still like to stay close to home for Christmas. I will cook a prime rib roast for dinner. For New Years Eve we usually have people come over for a "game night" such as various board or dice games or even Pictionary, which is always great for big laughs. Then we go outside at midnight and ruin all the pots and pans by banging on them like idiots.
On New Year's Day it has been a tradition in my Italian family to prepare Bagna Cauda, which smells up the house for days! (Garlic, olive oil and anchovies!)

I had my kids for the week before Christmas and then their dad picked them up around 1pm, so we had a wonderful morning. My oldest daughter is still here because her dad (yup, been married twice) will pick her up on Monday. We ...meaning Carl,me and my oldest daughter, had a great turkey dinner tonight, WAY too much food for any of us and then I had the traditional after dinner nap.
