When does Badger open and maybe we could have an OF outing? Also, do they have snowboarding lessons? I think it would be a great OF affair - lots of great snow fun!

Badger is a good place for learning... nothing too steep or difficult skill wise. and the prices are good.

Summer - I like the way you're thinking. Been thinking the last week or so that I have always had a desire to ski but have been to chicken to try.

This link (http://www.yosemitepark.com/content2col.cfm?SectionID=81&PageID=250) has up-to-date conditions, once they open; that's tentatively December 13 this year, depending on snowfall.
They have a good rental program both for downhill and cross-country. The Yosemite Winter Club (http://www.yosemitewinterclub.com/) has been trying to revive itself; membership gets you some discounts on lessons and rentals (and the social events in the Park are kind of fun).

Hey Cak, thanks for the links. Just looking at the pictures - I'm ready, ready, ready!! Come on SNOW!! Love the snow - even if you don't ski - as we haven't done too much since moving here - its even great just hanging out. And so great for the kids - they can ski, snowboard, or tube. Plus, they burn off a lot of that excess energy! OF trip would be great.

I've never been on skiis ... roller skates and skateboards were a total disaster, so I figured I'd better keep my feet on solid ground.

The main Yosemite page says that BP is open for cross country only. But after all this rain (and it's been rain up there, too - it's 37 degrees at Sentinel Dome right now, 11pm on 12/30), I can't imagine that it's any too pleasant...
Maybe if this turns to snow in the next few days as the Natl Weather Service is promising...

Through 11 am...moderate to locally heavy rain and snow will continue over the foothills and higher elevations of the southern Sierra Nevada. The snow level will remain around 8000 feet and heavy snow will fall above this elevation. Over the lower slopes and foothills...rainfall rates will exceed one quarter inch per hour in heavier bands of rain.

My sister found this info from the LA Times...
NEW SHUTTLE FROM OAKHURST TO BADGER PASS...
The shuttle is scheduled to start Dec. 19, the day after the ski area opens. It will run on Saturdays and Sundays through April 4, plus every day during the holiday period, Dec. 26 to Jan. 3, said Kenny Karst, spokesman for DNC Parks & Resorts at Yosemite Inc., the park’s concessionaire.
The round trip will cost $10 per person. Besides saving you the $20-per-car entry fee for Yosemite, the shuttle will spare you the hassle of negotiating snowy mountain roads. The downside: Because the shuttle will make only one round trip per day, it won’t offer as much flexibility as a car.
The weekend shuttle will depart on the 38-mile-long run to the Badger Pass day lodge at 7 a.m. from Miller’s Mountain Sports’ new location, 40343 California Highway 41, Oakhurst, and return by 5:30 p.m. Along this route, it will stop at Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite in Fish Camp.
Within the park’s boundaries, visitors can continue to use a free shuttle service up to Badger Pass , which also offers snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, from the Ahwahnee, Yosemite Lodge and Curry Village.
For more information about the new shuttle, call the DNC Guest Recreation office, (209) 372-1114, or, after Badger Pass opens for the season, call (209) 372-8430 and choose menu option No. 5.

Kellie, THANKS for posting this!
I wonder if I can take my own XC skis or do I need to rent them up there? I guess I'll find out when I try to get on the shuttle.
This is something I've wanted for a long time. I can use the time in between here and there watching scenery or reading a book. That's worth $10 to me. :)

You are most welcome!~ I bet you can take your XC skis, to be sure, there are a couple of numbers at the bottom of that post -- probably Tenaya will know. Happy skiing!

This was also published in this week's Sierra Star.
Sounds like a pretty good deal.
