On the news last night they showed people who were flooded during last week's storms. Three feet of water invaded their homes during a huge storm.
So they interview this lady who was getting a voucher for a Free week in a hotel and she yelling and going on:
Who's fault is this!!!!!!!??
My thought: God did it you dumbazz. He works in mysterious ways. Complain to him.
Who's is gonna fix my home!!!!!!????
My thought: Fix it yourself and quit looking for handouts. Think about flood insurance next time.
Who's gonna replace all my stuff that got ruined!!!!!!!????
My thought: Why should anyone replace your stuff beside you????
To top that off...
The radio was talking about that horrible tragedy in Virginia with the coal miners.
They play a tape of an interview of one of the family members and she says, "You know I am gonna sue..."
My thought: Who are you going to sue? How do you even know yet that there is reason to sue? Could it simply have been a horrible accident?
No, no no.... people want to get paid.

I know what you mean. Seems like people want somebody to be responsible for what happens to them, even when it isn't anyone's fault, or the times when it is really their OWN fault.
I've always thought it weird that when people do things like, say, have their custom home built on property right next to a sewage treatment plant, or chicken ranch, etc., they start complaining about the smell. Or when they buy a house in an obvious flood plain of the San Joaquin River, we are supposed to feel sorry for them when the damn place floods. (Like that mobile home park by the SJ river, as a good example.)
One time the news showed some woman we were supposed to feel sorry for, and the cameraman filmed the inside of her refrigerator, which was almost empty, and also showed her five or six little kids. Viewers were supposed to think, "Oh, that poor woman!" Yeah, right -- each one of her kids had a different dad, according to their mother, but she did not know who any of the kids' fathers were. So, how many guys do you think she messed around with to arrive at a situation like that? And no birth control? People like that get themselves into their own fixes.

I'll rant with you also - but to the extent that people should take responsibility for their lives/situations...
Ok - admittedly, sometimes we all find ourselves in unexpected situations.
Its easy for us who have good education, well-paying jobs, etc. to forget how hard it is for those who don't have a lot of money or good jobs.
I was raised low-income, but worked very hard to "hopefully" never get back there. I don't ever want to live like that again. But... even I sometimes forget how hard it can be.
Usually the poor are relinquished to areas less desireable to others (ie., flood plains, bad parts of town, etc.) simply because those areas are more affordable. And then, they can't afford the necessary insurance to cover the risks they are exposed to.
However, if a city has not appropriately planned drainage, then... hmmm... whose fault is it? The city's? Nature's because the city only planned for 4 inches of rain, but 9 inches came down...
But when I see someone who bought a big screen plasma TV or the Expensive car rather than necessary insurance, then my blood boils! Take care of your necessities first and then buy the extras. Don't come running to the government for help if you haven't.
As FEMA continues to step into these messes and pull people out, then they see, why should I buy insurance - FEMA will be there to help me...
Hmmm... socialism? I thought we were a capitalistic society last time I checked.
And, then there's the whole situation in Mississipi due to Katrina and flooding. The Attorney General in Mississipi is trying to get insurance companies to pay all the flood claims - even though the homeowner policies all EXCLUDE flood. Now there's a real piece of work - take the rules (Contracts) and throw them out the window because hmmm... we've got to find a way to get this all paid for. Well... that's not the job of an insurance policy (contract). You get what you ordered and paid for. If you didn't buy a Cadillac when you bought the ford, why should you get the Cadillac???
If he was to get his way, I'll tell you, insurance companies will leave Mississippi - stop writing there altogether. They did not plan their premiums (actuarily) to cover flood damage... it was calculated to cover the % of homeowner policies they believed they'd pay for fire, theft, or liability claims for. Not Flood.

KK is right. But not always do the poorer ppl get shoved to the worse parts of town. Those 500K homes in Clovis in the buchannon school district.. guess what.. IF the Friant Dam should bust... they will all be under water. And even more silly... when those ppl bought their houses they had to sign a waiver that they wouldnt sue if the dam did bust. How many of them do you think will try to sue anyway?
