June 27, 2006 - High rollers will have more space to try their luck. A local casino is expanding, but it comes with some concerns.

Construction is set to begin Friday at the Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino in Coarsegold.
The casino plans to double its hotel rooms and add more restaurants and other attractions.

The casino says the expansion will bring about 400 new jobs to the area.

However, traffic on Highway 41 is a growing problem. In fact, the CHP plans to request more officers to handle the increasing traffic.

Other concerns from nearby residents include whether the highway will be expanded to accommodate the traffic and where the additional water needed will come from.

The expansion may not stop with the new construction. Plans for a third expansion at Chukchansi are already on the drawing board.

I have also heard that they have been sending out letters to some people that have been considered tribal, telling them that they are no longer considered part of the tribe and that things will be getting ugly soon. Hopefully it is just a rumor, but it seems like all the casinos have been down that road before, including Chukchansi.

Man, aren't they trucking in water to that community because they don't have enough to support the casino and Indian Lakes?

I think the casino is plenty large enough. Greed is evil, and this is exactly the outcome of greediness. More, more, more.

One of these days the drunks driving like maniacs to and from the casino will affect one of us on this board directly. I have had a few scary moments on 41 concerning people "commuting" to the casino from the valley, and I am not a daily commuter (like my husband is).

It is no wonder why Table Mt and the road leading to it have a dozen signs talking about drunk drivers killing innocent people, and for all to slow down and not drink and drive. Pretty soon 41 will have the same.

And for the people who live in the trailer with all the barracades up at the end of "Lucky Lane"... move!

If I remember right, Table Mountain doesn't serve alcohol, and yet there has still been enough of a drunk driving problem to warrant these signs. Go figure!

I just hope they put a dancing place in..somewhere different to hear a live band would be nice They did...and no one was interested. The Restaurant/bar by the service desk, Fire something was designed to be just that. For the first year or so they brought in all types of live entertainment, to no avail.

The Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino has received a permit that would allow treated wastewater to be discharged into Coarsegold Creek, despite the protests of people who live and farm downstream.
