Expires 1:45 PM PDT on April 03, 2006

Statement as of 7:45 AM PDT on April 03, 2006

... Flood Warning in effect for the southern Sierra Nevada below 5000
feet... including the foothills... through 6 PM PDT Tuesday evening...

The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a Flood Warning
for the southern Sierra Nevada below 5000 feet... including the
foothills... through 6 PM PDT Tuesday evening.

By 7 am... widespread rainfall amounts exceeding one inch have been
observed over the the foothills and the slopes of the southern Sierra
Nevada below 8000 feet. Moderate to heavy rain will continue through
Tuesday... and fall on the snowpack above 5000 feet.

The storm is bringing tropical moisture into the region... keeping
snow levels high today and Tuesday. Snowmelt is adding to the
runoff... resulting in streams running near bankfull in some
locations... and local flooding of roads in the mountains and
foothills.

Never drive into areas where water covers the roadway. It is often
deeper than it appears. Remember... turn around... don't drown.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.

I am sick of the rain going on for days on end...but the sweltering over 100 degree heat in the summertime can get to me after a while too. I think I'd rather take the rain...

Just hoping for some nice, clear sunny days...a repeat of yesterday. That'd be quite nice.

just got off the phone with PGE - the outage has been changed to:

Thursday, 6/8 from 8 AM to 4 PM
Monday, 6/12 from 7 AM to 5:30 PM

just got a return message from P.G&E. had left a rather stern message, hoping they would get their act together. The latest is that emergency generators will be installed. Our electricity should be off for 10 to 15 minutes around 8:00 A.M. while generators are hooked up and again about 4:00 P.M. when the generators are being uninstalled. The same thing is due to happen on Monday. That sounds a lot better to me than the all day scenario which was stated in the letters.

I know they have work to do in YLP. I never recieved the 2nd letter with the new dates. I also don't know if its just YLP.

So it's 5 hours later and it's dark outside and it's still HOT. 100 degrees at 9 pm. Crazy!

Global warming..earth's axil on tilt...whatever it is, thing's just are not normal. Here, there and everywhere. Extreme weather. Let us not forget our extreme winter.

Mom-in-law said it was 119 degrees in Woodland Hills (San Fernando Valley) yesterday...that's Mojave Desert temp. What was it in Mojave? 135 degrees?

Statement as of 9:06 PM PDT on July 23, 2006

... Heat advisory now in effect until 9 PM PDT Monday...

The heat advisory is now in effect until 9 PM PDT Monday.

Heat indexes from 105 to 115 degrees will occur once again on
Monday.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create
a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of
fluids... stay in an air-conditioned room... stay out of the sun as
much as possible. Make sure pets and farm animals have plenty of
water and access to shade. And never leave children or pets alone
in vehicles. Temperatures can quickly rise to dangerous levels...
even if windows are partially open.

The San Joaquin Valley air pollution control district also has
issued a spare the air day for the San Joaquin Valley today.

I can't take this heat!! I don't have air conditioning or a cooler. It was 101 INSIDE my house today!! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/shocked.gif Then, the power went out, so I couldn't even take a shower. The power was still out when I left for work at 9:30 pm.

I have been worried about my black skinned dogs. I already make them go swimming several times a day. And, they hang out in a covered cool, shady, breezeway between the house and the garage. But, today I felt so bad for them that I hooked up a mister in breeze way too!! All 3 dogs took a nice long cool nap through the heat this afternoon!

Nope, my jeep don't have air either. So, by the time I get to work, I have been very drained and feel like I am going to pass out this past week. This heat is going to kill me yet! I don't ever remember it being this hot up here. I can handle the 90's, but this over 100 in the house has got to go!!

are you renting or own? cos if you are renting your landlord ought to be shot for not having at least a swamp cooler in the house. I had a swampcooler go out one summer... and the landwench was too cheap to buy a new one.. so we moved.

I own the house. I have a swamp cooler, but it is sitting on my front porch. I could never afford to have it installed. It has been on my porch for 3 years now. I don't even know if it works anymore. I can usually have my windows open and a fan going and it stays tollerable. But this year is a different story. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sick.gif http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/shout.gif

those arent that tough to install.. and there has to be someone around that could help you. Heck, you bought the thing... its losing you money sitting there. (not trying to critisise you).

try putting an ad on the classifieds here.. for someone to help you install.

The cooler came with the house. I bought a used mobile home and had it moved to my property. The cooler did work when I bought the house. The people I bought it from had it going when I first looked at the house. When I had the house moved and set up on my property, I ran out of money. Didn't have enough left to do some of the small things. The cooler looks kinda old and I am not sure I have all the parts for it anymore. And the cooler doesn't go on top of the house, it has to be mounted on the side of the house. I would have to have a large shelf or something built to install it. That sounds like it might cost a lot of money. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/confused.gif I don't know how the people I bought it from did it, but it was somehow just kinda stuck on the side of the house about 12 feet off the ground. No shelf or anything.

JJ, it doesn't cost alot to install a swamp cooler. Call some handymen to get a estimate. Maybe some of the men on this forum could be nice enough to do it for you.

Yes, from the top outside edge to the house are two chains holding the cooler in place and level. It has been that way since we installed it 3 years ago with no problems. Of course the eye bolts going into the house are large and anchored well. Two holes drilled into the top of the swamp cooler for another set of bolted in eye bolts w/ washers (on the inside of the cooler so the eye bolts don't pull out. She is using the equivalent of dog chain, but I would like to trade that out for something a bit stronger.

Gives us something to look forward to without any drastic changes. I do believe the fall months - end of Sept., Oct., and early Nov. are my favs. Weather is just right - warm days, chilly nights. Love it.

Statement as of 4:30 AM PST on November 25, 2006

... Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Sunday evening
through Monday afternoon...

A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for the Sierra Nevada from
Yosemite to Kings Canyon park from Sunday evening through Monday
afternoon.

The long break from winter storm conditions may come to an end
Sunday evening through Monday, with the arrival of a significant
winter storm. A weather disturbance from the Gulf of Alaska is
forecast to dive into central California late Sunday and linger
into Monday. This feature is projected to have enough cold air and
moisture to drop a significant amount of snow from Yosemite Park
South to Kings Canyon. Latest forecast snow amounts suggest more
than a foot of snow is possible above 7000 feet, before the snow
ends Monday afternoon. This storm will impact Tioga Pass on
Highway 120, and snowfall amounts will likely be significant
enough to close the pass for the season.
