It's hot. I'm driving to the SFV on Saturday. Is it warm there? Do you know if the Santa Ana's are blowing? (As much as I complained about them, I do miss the warm wind)

I am one who does just fine in cold weather, but I don't do well in hot weather. That is why I have not appreciated summer since I graduated from high school.

Concerned - You posted something I disagree with. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/grin2.gif I'm a summer person. I have Arthritis and my joints do not do so well in damp weather. I thrive in the summer time.

I'm glad we have 4 seasons. It makes me appreciate the summer time more. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink2.gif

Hey Dodgergirl... I think Bass Lake Weather gives us a better idea of what we will get in our hood. We are a lot higher up then North Fork, but Bass Lake gets about what we get as far as snow and rain...

Jackets don,t sale well here, because we only get maybe 3 months to wear one, if that at all.At least it is cold enought to enjoy the Christmas Halidays.I would hate it if it was in the 70s at Christmas. We are going to get blasted with rain next week. I only owned one coat before moving here and that was for business trips to Chicago in the winter!

But now.. hmmm... I love the Burlington Coat Factory - I have to have one for light cool crisp nights - you know in the 50's/60's... and another for freezing your butt off mornings in the 20's/30's and one for mucking horse stalls, one for riding, another for going into town, another for lazing around the property, one for visiting friends, one for heading to the local bar and grill, one for going to the snow, one for going to work, one for the rain... hmmm.. what am I forgetting?

I've got a whole closet full of different weights, warmth, colors, styles - Just like my shoes - a woman has to have choices!

We live in Cedar Valley (a mile past Sky Ranch) - we saw people chaining up at our turnoff (Gateway Vacation Rentals - must be a story there!) and the actual chain control was at 4000 feet (near the middle Lewis Creek trailhead).

It didn't really get snowy until past Sugar Pine - this was around 1pm, I'd guess.

It's all rain now. And how!

Sierra Nevada from Yosemite to Kings Canyon-

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through 6 PM PST Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Hanford has continued a Winter Storm
Warning for the southern Sierra Nevada... from Yosemite to Kings
Canyon... through Saturday. Snow will fall heavily at times through
the period. Snow levels will be around 4000 feet tonight... then
lower to 3000 to 3500 feet by Friday afternoon. Snow will continue
through Friday night before diminishing to snow showers Saturday
afternoon.

Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 feet are possible over the
Sierra summits. Additionally... this storm will produce strong
southwest winds of 30 to 50 mph over the higher terrain with
significant blowing and drifting of snow and local whiteout
conditions.

Persons with travel plans into the Sierra Nevada should expect
severe winter weather conditions through at least Saturday morning.
Anticipate Road closures and long delays. Roads that remain open
will require tire chains

http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/rolleyes2.gif i wanted snow thursday, friday, saturday or sunday. why today?

i was supposed to be at work at 7. that didn't happen.

got up, there was no snow. was leaving for work about an hour later, was asked if i'd checked the weather first. said no, and that i could guarantee it didn't snow at that low. opened the door and took back my guarantee immediately.

thought i could make it to work ... it was interesting, to say the least. stopped at DodgerGirl's (sweetest person ever) house for a bit, until it got lighter and a few more people had gone by.

i'd like to place am order for 5 inches of snow at my house in 4 weeks on a friday night, please.

6AM is going to be rough. Even if they plow, it's going to be very slippery. If you must leave that early, please be so careful.

They start plowing at 7 or 8 I think... but I could be wrong on that one. If it snows a lot tonight, the plows will only do so much. Subarus do well, though. Just drive as slow as you can.

I know it's kind of hard to call in after having a vacation, but let your safety come first. If you feel it is unsafe in the morning, don't do it. Do you have a cell phone? That would come in handy if you do get stuck... or tell Jack you'll call him from work once you arrive. Then he'll know to come looking if you don't call.

Be safe and take the morning off if you see a lot of snow out there... ...and if they don't plow... don't even try it. You will not make it around the 420/223 corner if they don't plow.

Yup, he loves the snow. He has a nice fur coat to keep him warm. He gets too hot in the house, in fact. He will go downstairs and lay on the linoleum when it gets too hot in the house for him. Then he'll come upstairs and beg me to let him out.

I have seen him sleeping in the snow in the middle of the night outside. I open the door to let him in and he runs the other direction. I look outside 10 minutes later and he is back sleeping in his snow hole. He loves to roll around in the snow, also. The black from his coat is a great contrast to the snow.

He is inside right now... I think he got it all out of his system running around yesterday.

The cat, on the other hand, doesn't even like to go outside to go to the bathroom when it's snowing. I have to toss her *** outside every morning to prevent an accident. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/lol.gif

the news just said they were having golfball sized hail in Fresno. The weather system should hit Oakhurst at 4:50 or so.......that is, if you believe the news. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink420.gif
I think it'll glide right past NF, but I gotta head down to Oakhurst around 6. Then over to Bass Lake.
Any road hazards out there?

KK got caught right in the eye of it just leaving Fresno. SHe had to pull under and overpass for a few minutes and then decided to make a mad dash to outrun the storm and made it home OK. No dents in the car but she said the hail was nickel size and was the worst weather she had to drive in.

Watch it roll in by work yesterday around 4:00 p.m. in Fresno (41 and Friant) and it was following the 41 exactly to the North -so thought, I'll try to out run it and won't have to drive in the storm home later... so left at the worst possible time - was caught in the hail storm - I parked under the underpass (1/2 in, 1/2 out cause others were already there! Then decided, well, what's the difference - my car was being pelted anyways in the rear so took off in it (about 30 miles an hour if that) and did outrun it at the Millerton Turn-off - smooth sailing home...

Then 1/2 hour later after getting home it hit here...

Here are some of my shots from last night:

Hey Ya'll http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink420.gif My Mom and Dad say they've (you) have gotten something odd like 400% over the "normal" yearly rain. I guess that isn't a bad thing. What is California trying to do, imitate the east here? It rains several times a week here in VA, then it's sunny, but usually its sunny and hot during day then a thunderstorm comes in, blows a bunch of rain...and cools everything down. Good system, but not what I'm used to. I miss CA. *sings "Sweet home California! Oh I'm comin' home to youuu!" * O.o But I hope the rain slows down a little before we get there, geez. west coast (http://www.gibbleguts.com/images/westcoast.gif) cute weather cartoon

Sure is starting to feel like Spring? Sierra Summit is reopening and plans to be open over Memorial day weekend. Also had a few friends take snow mobiles up Beasore somewhere. Their excited claim was 12 feet of new snow. Even with accepting the probable exaggeration of their story.....8 feet or even 6 feet of new snow this late in the year is amazing. We haven't had snow on Father's day in while......
