The owner of this place is very RUDE and everytime I or anyone I know has eaten there the result has been stayign home sick for 2 days. This has happened on 4 occasions.

The food is usually good, since I consider this place to be fast food, I don't expect much. The guys are usually friendly & quick, but the lady who is at the register has been in a foul mood the few times I've been in.

I would have to say that for what they are selling the food at Old Mexico is okay, I mean it is not like authentic Mexican food, but it is at a decent price and you can get full.

My only problem is that it always seems a little warm and SOOOO humid in there no matter what time I go there. If they could get the temperature at a decent level and the humidity down it would be more comfortable. Also if they didnt charge so much for chips and salsa, I like it when you can get chips and salsa the way you can as at real mexican restaurants. But hey I guess I am silly.

It's in the Raley's lot near the Met Cinema.
I've eaten there several times, usually get the Avacado taco and haven't had any problems with staff or food.

Been there twice, reasonable price, lots of food, but did not like it.

I've eaten there a few times. Liked food, but simply don't have time or money to eat there often.

I tried getting that for lunch, but it takes too long and i can get a bean burrito and a water from taco bell for $1.07 in 5 minutes.

So yeah, they're OK, but i still prefer El Cid's

The beef is really fatty... I used to really enjoy going there but after two bad "Old Mexico" burritos, I will never go again.

I think Castillos is by far the best food and cleanest in town.

I went there the other day... had the fish tacos (Mmmmmm, Im a fiend for fish tacos). Just got one for 4.50 and it was HUGE. the Dos XX was nice and cold and went down well with the fish. Only thing, i was expecting mahi mahi to be in the taco, but they put in salmon... took a few bites to get used to the stronger taste of salmon. The place is a bit pricey, but ive yet to have any GI problems from it.

Castillos SUCKS.

I concur on the Castillos issue.

The Mexico Taqueria place has good taco salads and great fresh iced tea. We go there before seeing a film.. sort of a tradition.

think we could get the mexican place and Me and Eds to serve food to movie goers at the theatre.... all theyd have to do is put up bench like tables along the back of each row of chairs... and maybe create a walk thru from the restaurants to the theatre... would be cool to be able to kick back, order a pizza or a fish taco and a beer or bottle of wine and watch a flick.

I can see the complaints now...

Shut up!!! in the back row

beer bottles klanking, fish smell from the tacos, hearing "can I have your order please",
"this is not the pizza I ordered" .....

beer drinking with kids present.

hummmm... dont think it would work there.

sounds good though

party pooper Mibrew. It works very well in Austin where they have such a theatre.... as there is also one in Phoenix... you can tell who the servers are by the hunched back young girls walking about town..... And Mibrew, we'd make sure they'd serve microbrews on tap.

What's the scoop? Weren't they planning to open their new location in mid-October? Doesn't seem like there's much activity going on there, but maybe inside it's like a beehive. Is it gonna be full service or scoop 'n serve? Anyone know?

AKA Simoni Laguna...We have free garlic bread right now mon through thurs ..Its pretty cool we sell a lot of beer midweek happy hours. What would you onliners like to see on tap thought the winter what kind of microbrews or beers????

Castillo's was the place where I had a sharp rather large piece of glass in my refries and felt it in my mouth. Not exactly knocking the restaurant, but it was almost funny when the waitress asked me if I would like to have more! hahahahahaa! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/bonk.gif

The scoop I got was that the new Restaurant will be open in mid january. They have a lot of internal work to do and also re-doing the parking.

I noticed the big Taqueria signs going up yesterday at the new location, wonder if they got things worked out & will be opening anytime soon?
Maybe the new place will have more flavor than the hot table at the old location, where, IMHO, everything tastes the same...
Will need to have lunch there as soon as they open.

Thats why I never liked the the Taqueria.
No flavor. I once had a taco there that tasted like a hamburger.

I sure feel bad for the Taqueria getting screwed around, time wise, because of coaches federal tax leins.
I hope that they can finely open and, put Hondo's to rest. They've waited over 6 months for the Leins to be cleared http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sick.gif http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/no.gif.

That intersection "49 & 41" should look pretty good once all the construction is done and the doors are open for busines. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

Had lunch today in the 'new building'. It is beautiful inside they did a great remodel job. Same idea on the food--you get what you point at. We really really enjoyed the fresh veggie quesadilla though. The taco salad was the same as always and the prices have not changed that I could tell. I will be going back if just for the quesadilla

I am surprise at how many signs they are allowed to have. I have never seen a business in town with that big of a sign and so many of them plus the truck across the street. I guess there afraid they might get missed.

I wish the paintball Vandals in town would shoot those ugly signs instead of peoples cars...

I realize the Taqueria probably paid a lot of money for that gargantuan, gi-normous sign...but it doesn't quite seem to "fit" it's new location like it's old location. Size-wise...it's over-sized and weighty looking, overpowering the building in a negative way. Aesthetically...it's not in keeping with the the rest of the building's style and color scheme. It just looks wrong for the building. Sometimes things grow on you as time passes...this one hasn't yet for me But that's just my opinion.

I said this before.. they should change the roof tiles or something.. I don't know, make the sign look as if it should fit or something.

It looks like it will topple over or something.

Changing the composition roof to spanish tiles would definately help give the place a Latin flavor...good idea.

But I think the big sign would still look wrong for the building...Somewhat masking the gabled/A line roof with this huge sign that has a rounded arched frame to it doesn't look like a good fit. Not too mention all that green "dead space" on the sign where the logo is practically illegible over the huge "Mexican Food" just looks poorly designed.

If I were them, I would've scrapped the old sign and started over...with a better design.

The old sign used to fit better at the old locale...only because the old spot was somewhat Mediterranean looking with the white stuccoed walls...and that humungous sign seemed to work with their big front stair/arched entry. It actually was an improvement over Firefall's permanently placed temporary banner sign. But at the Hondo's building...it ain't working.

We went there today for lunch! Have to say a couple of your posts here inspired me to finally go to the Taqueria (never been in all their years). Never even been in the Hondo's building before...

Went about 1:30...the place wasn't packed by any means. Got right up to the "buffet". Service was friendly...but all our food didn't quite come up as fast for the type of service style it is. Had to break back into the roped off line to get our food when it was ready. I think they need a "pick-up" station. Anyway...the food was very good. I had the chickwen fajitas. Kids had quesadillas and tamale/rice combo. Everyone was pleased. I really liked the interior...they did a nice job.

I'll go back. We're now fans. Even though they do have a big funny sign http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

Gonna go see Pirates of the Carribean later...let you know what I thnk of that too.

I don't know what the critics are talking about, I've eaten at Old Mexico at least fifty times, probably a hundred times. I like it very much. Anyone who says they have gotten sick from their food is either lying or they would get sick from eating pudding--they shouldn't eat Mexican food. Although, I don't recommend their chicken dishes because they are pretty greasy, I've liked almost everything thing else that I've had there. Unlike Castillo's, their food and their salsas actually taste good. However, their prices are a little high for what is essentially fast food.

My last visit there was ho-hum and left me feeling like I should've just went to El Cid for the price. Or maybe I should've finally tried out Lucy's.

One of my close friends is a manager there, and his dad is the owner.

I agree, the prices are a bit high... and there is better food out there. There is always someone/someplace out in the world that is better than you.

However, I do not believe *most* of the staff to be rude. Maybe it is because of my friendship with those who work there... but even before that I always thought that it was a place with friendly people.

As for getting sick... I don't know. I know that they are very careful and particular with cooking their food. Most times food poisoning comes from your own home anyways. Though, things do happen. Who knows...

I know not everyone agrees, and I'm not trying to make everyone think the way I do. Just expressing my opinion. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

I wouldn't call them fast food. It's full-service quality food, yet it's served up cafeteria/buffet/assembly-line style...not fast-food style.

I guess what I feel isn't *worth* the price is watching my food "die" as I wait and wait and wait...for other dishes in our order to be prepared and for the people in front of me to get their food, drinks and pay. I also didn't care for trying to juggle two heavy trays of food and beverages (if we don't get refillable sodas) to a table. Those plates are heavy!

I do know that after my last visit, I felt like we should've just went to El Cid. The food's just as good, if not better. Service. Chips and salsa. I don't mind paying a tip for a better experience.

My family & I ate at their new location for the first time this past Sunday. They were offering to seat customer's and allow them to choose from the menu instead of just "point & pick," though we chose to do that instead.

The food was excellent, as was the service. The guy's behind the line really made me feel that they were interested to ensure that I got the food the way I wanted it. The fish fillet dinner that my son had was really outstanding.

The booths were comfortable, and the decor was nice, as was the landscaping. The drinks were a little expensive, but then again you're really only expecting to have one with dinner anyway.

All together, for 4 of us, dinner & drinks were less than $60 for more food than we could consume in one sitting. Not terrific or terrible on price - could be a little better - but overall I voted them as "Great" on this poll.

Over the past few weeks I have tried the food at Old Mexico Taqueria. I have found it to be better than El Cids and Castillos. The Food at OMT is like what I was used to getting when I lived in Southern California (where I grew up and lived for almost 40 years). I have always had pleasant sevice, I am greeted by a "Hello" when I walk in and I get a "Thank You, Goodbye" when I leave. I've had the manager/owner(?) joke with me and I've never felt rushed. I recently tried my "favorite" Mexican place in Orange County that has been in business for many years (I've watched their kids grow up and now I see their grandkids), I found OMT to be on Par with the food at my old favorite.

On the other hand Castillos reminds me of the Mexican food I would get in Virginia, rather bland. And El Cids I could never figure out what they were trying to do with their chips, give me plain chips so I can enjoy the salsa.

Their shrimp burritos are fantastic! I'm from LA where there is so much great mexican food, and there really aren't that many choices up here. Old Mexico is my favorite Mexican place up here. I don't like that you have to pay for chips and salsa, which is not cool at all, and the last time I was there 6 tables were sitting there unbussed when they were almost completely empty. But I think the food is great!
