Would our Silverado 4x make these Treks? I don't know how difficult of runs you go on?
I can see from the photos we'd be fine - but its the steep hills and rocks that you probably go over to get there that worry me - I heard about you guys scraping and losing auto parts along the way!!! http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wacko.gif
Also... Matthew - "Resting" Please! How hard is it to press the accelerator and brake pedals!!! http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/laugh3.gif

The Silverado would make it to Shuteye. Take it slow and you wouldn't bottom out. You know, you probably have some skid plates to protect you even if you were to hit a rock. That's what trucks are for and your a mountain girl now. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink2.gif
Surfus and Newcomer/Kahlua Kid's trucks would make it most of the way to Star Lakes. We saw some big trucks like yours heading up there. We passed them up, so we didn't see how far they made it. They could have probably made it to the cabins that we stopped at. Behond that point, don't even try it. You would be far too big to fit between trees. I was shocked that my Jeep made it through some of the stuff it did.
So, I passed up some Wranglers at the bottom of the steepest hill. They were all hooting ang hollering... and clapping when I made it up the hill with ease. The same hill that ended their journey. One Wrangler popped a tire. I think I impressed RaiderFan with that hill. He thought he would have to winch me up it.
It was a lot of fun and I was never scared.
BTW: The Jeeps were the ones resting http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink2.gif

BTW: I didn't get photos of the hard stuff. I was too busy making sure I didn't stop and lose my momentum.

Sorry it's taken me this long to get out here and post, I had to go to Fresno with the boat in tow today, so I had to do some quick work on the Jeep when I got back last night... I'm having some issues with the carb and/or ignition.
I have my pictures on the digital camera, and I'll DL them tonight to the computer before I hit the sack. Should have em posted tomorrrow sometime if not sooner. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink2.gif
As for trucks on the trail, there would be no problem with power/4x4, but the space between the trees and room to turn was even hard on the two short body CJ-5's (mine and RaiderFan's).
I was a bit nervous on some of the rock terain because all the bouncing was causing my engine to cut out a lot. I had several occasions where I thought I'd just park it and hitch with somebody else the rest of the way. After all of that, I ended up going all the way to the end of the trail anyway. I wish I had had the time, and more importantly the energy, to hike down to the lakes though... http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/sad2.gif
Kahlua: None of our pictures showed the really tough stuff we went through... http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink2.gif It took us overall, about 3 1/2 hours to get to the end of the trail starting from the Mountain House Restaurant, MOST of that time being eaten up by the last 7-10 miles of that trail. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/grin2.gif
I can now say I have done it, but I don't think I'll return to that trail for quite some time, unless I hitch with somebody else. I'd also like to stay and camp overnight next time so I can do some hiking (and maybe even fishing).

I think I did that trail once, but on a motorcycle. I tried to go on all the designated 4x4 routes in the area. Have you guy's done the Cattle Mtn. route? That ridge trail has high "pucker" factor. There's some nice stuff over by Shaver Lake.
Anyone interested in 4x4 quad ATV trail rides?

With all this rainy weather it's nice to look back on these pictures from last summer. It gives me something to look forward to in only about six months http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/sad420.gif , if the snow ever melts. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/confused2.gif
