This is an interesting question - because when we moved here we expected our auto insurance to drop from the LA area... but it did not! Remained flat! (Due to the zip code/area having lots of accidents and Fresno is the car-theft capital of California).

So... was with Mercury for 7 years, until they screwed us on a claim for an accident that was NOT my fault (even the police report stated thus) and they agreed it was not, but they made me pay $4,500 to fix my convertible top (they generously paid the other $4,500) because it was a "moving part" and the depreciated it!!! Because they were afraid they couldn't subrogate against 21st Century and get their money back, they wouldn't pay the entire amount. And because I allowed them to start making payouts (so I could get a rental car and put my car in the auto body shop immediately) they had to adjust the claim the whole way - not 21st Century - the other parties insurance who also agreed their insured was 100% at fault! And to boot - Mercury increased our insurance to $2,200 every 6 months... Lesson learned about that insurance company...

I shopped our auto insurance hard last year - to at least 2 independent agencies (ie., Kraft and Lee, Foster Parker) and then at least 6 direct agencies (ie., Farmers, Allstate, State Farm, 21st Century)... wound up at Allstate in Oakhurst (Robert Clayton), for the least expensive... $1,400 every 6 months with the limits we wanted (May sound expensive, but we have a convertible, 4x4 truck and a 4-runner, I drive 35 miles to work one-way, and carry high limits).

I'd love to hear where others are - if there are any undiscovered auto insurance carriers here who are bargains!

Let us know!

I have EVERYTHING through Sheri Lee at Kraft & Lee. All business, personal, home, auto, etc. I've been very happy with her and the prices are lower thank I have found with others. Perhaps that is because we have so much there.

Do you know what carrier your auto is with?

I have our home and some other insurance with her - but Allstate beat them out on Auto pricing by enough...

I like Sheri and do business with her for commercial insurance also (I'm a wholesale broker that shops surplus lines markets - retailers such as Kraft and Lee -- and -- Foster Parker McAuley come to me and I negotiate terms, conditions and pricing for larger commercial and/or tougher classes such as contractors - we're invisible to the end customer though because our relationship is with the retailer - their relationship is with the commercial customer.)

I'd have to look. I send checks to so many different insurance companies, I can't keep it all straight.

KK, I am with Rob Clayton also. AllState has always given me the best rates even when I was a teenager. I have 1 brand new 4X4, 1 2001 4X4, and a 1982 truck, all with full coverage and minimum if any deductible. Most companies wont even give the '82 full coverage. My annual cost is roughly the same as yours. I have learned by keeping your home, vehicles, life ins. w/ the same company more discounts apply.

Has anyone tried GEICO? I have been with them for 15+ years and they give you a discount for every year for being a good driver. They have been the cheapest and easiest to deal with - I have tried to stray a few times and the competition always say that they can't beat GEICO...check GEICO.com if you are interested.

I have AAA insurance. When I moved here from the LA area, my rates dropped. (But that was Porter Ranch (very upscale) to a North Fork zip) http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif I have 3 cars & two trucks insured with them. Just added Homeowners insurance because it was so much lower than our current insurer, Farmers.

I've been with Rich Regert/Farmer's since I was in highschool. He's an old family friend so I am loyal but I also get good driver and student discounts through him.

We were with Farmer's for several years...then switched to AIG a couple years ago. Much better rates than Farmer's...we wasted a lot of money with Farmer's. Our rates are very low though...good drivers, older cars, over 35, etc.

We have our cars and home with Marylin Rigg at State Farm, We pay a little more than we probably would with some of the other companies, but when anything has come up, it's taken care of immediatly, I don't have to go through tons of red tape and crud like that, I like immediate response and friendly service.
