Everyone should or have someone come out to check your Oaks. This is what happened at my house today. Thank God the kids were not home yet and the dogs wernt near it. This tree is near the creek and probably soaked up alot of water.

I'm glad everyone is ok. I have someone coming out this weekend to trim up some of my oaks.

That is a good Idea Messy. 2 years ago we had all of our oaks checked out and Mistletoe removed from all of them to prevent disease. We had one removed which looked just like yours but was larger with 2 trunks from a V base (see below). The tree they removed hung over the boat and I did not want it splitting since it was ant and mistletoe infested. Tree maintenance if you have a lot of oaks does not come cheap but compared to a life or an injury or loss of property you have to take it into consideration. I am glad that everyone is safe.

After the storms we had, and all the rain, everyone should be checking the trees on their property for weaknesses, especially after seeing all the trees that did go down during that time. My dad always walks his 10 acres looking for stuff that needs to be taken down.
