Today I had a lunch date with a few friends (6)and we were talking about the up and coming Valentines day. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/love420.gif

The Topic of where to go?, here in Oakhurst to get Candies and Gifts came up and I was so surprized http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wow1.gif that a couple of my friends said that they had BAD experiences http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/no.gif At Mountain Candies & Flowers. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/confused2.gif

One friend said that the ladies that worked there were very un curtious and acted like they were doing her a favor just being their. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/embarassed.gif

The other friend had told us that she has been in Mountain Candies twice and that both times the visits were very negitive. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/shame.gif

I've never been there before , but after the stories I was told over lunch, I would be very concerned about patronizing a store that has left a bad taste in a few of my friends mouths. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/no.gif http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/hungry.gif http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/rant420.gif

I would like to know if anybody else has gone and purchased or just visited Mountain Candies & Flowers, and if so , What type of experience was your visit? http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/confused2.gif http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/1zhelp.gif

I'd like to know that too, because I certainly wont be going back. I've been treated very rudely there and its terrible for any kind of business to treat a customer or anyone for that matter with such rudeness. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/bigcry.gif

http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/idea3.gifPerhaps I should open a candy store. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/yes.gif

Yep, they weren't the friendliest bunch in there, and they kind of ignored me for a long time both times I went in there (at Xmas both times, but I was the only one in the store). Don't know of any other candy place, but I do love Oakhurst Floral. They were especially nice when I ordered flowers for my brothers funeral, very helpful without being pushy. They have been very nice the other times I have gone there too.

I've only been there one time. They had some cute gift items (but a bit overpriced I thought) and I didn't find them to be all that friendly either.

I bribed Delaney once when she had to see Dr. Parker for her glasses. I told her that we would go to the candy store if she did everything he said. well, she did..so off we went. I told the lady working there why I was buying Delaney candy. At first i thought she had a hearing problem, then came to realize that she didn't really care. Delaney picked out some candy and I could not beleave the price. So I told her lets go to long's and get some candy. Nice people work there and there candy isn't expensive so you can get more. We walked out. I have not been back and will never go again.

I went in a year or so ago to purchase some custom gift baskets. O.K., the price was exceptionally high, but I got over that. As I wandered around the store deciding what extras to add to the baskets, the sales lady was rushing me & kept asking if that was all.... I told her to go ahead & wait on the other customers (one or two came in over the course of the half or so hour), but she seemed insistent to close the sale.
Usually I have 10-12 of these baskets made once or twice a year, and like to put lots of little trinkets (which really add up), she really seemed angry I was taking up her time with a $500. or so order, Soooooooooo, I left. At that particular time a Hickory Farms was in the same area, Soooooooooooooo, they received one heck of an order that afternoon.
I WILL NOT GO BACK
I have heard thr little gift shop that opened over where 3 sisters (and more recently, grub & grind) has some exceptional chocolates available. Someone brought them into work & they were pretty good.

Gee whizz,
I can't believe all the negitive http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/rant420.gif things that have happened to people who just want to use a local business and keep our dollars http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/greedy.gif in our own community. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/confused2.gif

Mountain Candies is shameful http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/shame.gif for all the bad vibs http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/frownface.gif they have sent throughout the community http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/bonk.gif

I guess I'll just have to go to the Hallmark store http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/yes.gif in the Vons shopping center, because every person that works their treats the customers with kindness and manners. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/applause.gif

Well I am a faithful cutomer at mountain Candies and I think they are wonderful. How dare you people with nothing to do but sit around all day and blame other people for your problems say that they are shameful. They are not overpriced. They get something that costs 3 dollars and they must sell it for 6 just to make money. That is the way most businesses work. There candy has a very good taste to it also. So find a job or something because they have been there for over 20 years and no one has ever reported such awful things before! Get a LIFE!!!!

Seems like there are alot of us who have had alot of negative experiences there. The prices would not be such an issue if the service and attitudes weren't so bad. Customer service is the most important thing that keeps a business running. If you can't deal properly with the people who visit your store, there are plenty of other places that we can take our business. Oh and by the way, we do have LIVES, that is why we know so much about our area businesses. Unfortunately you sound like you would fit in perfectly with the Mountain Candy crowd Karibud. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/no.gif

Well, Tot did say that the last three times she's been in she's found the service to be more friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately, the bad often drowns out the good. And often when one person has a bad experience they tell more people and talk about it more than those who had a good experience.

It's tough being a business owner in a small town...I've never been to this operation, but I can also empathise. If they do not know, how can they do better? And how can they do better, if everyone stops giving them a chance to get better?

I have heard so many horrible things about them. I don't go very often, but yes, like i said, the last several times i went i received much better service.

However, Karibud, if you're still around, i do want you to know that posts like yours are more likely to turn away business than others' negative reviews.

1) Sounds like you have a personal investment in MC&B/F, which automatically makes you not too trustworthy on this topic. How do you know they've never received complaints? I know years ago i did make a complaint.

2) Attacking people, always bad. Some get away with it jokingly, but generally speaking, not a good idea.

3) I have two jobs, thank you very much. Just because this particular community/group is online doesn't mean we're a bunch of ... whatever it is i felt you were implying.

4) I hope you don't take offense to this post. The more the merrier, usually, here. So... besides all the above, Welcome http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/bow.gif

I went to the Mountain Candies store and I didn't like the prices, but I bought from the store anyways.

I was the only customer in the store at the time and I didn't notice any bad service or anything. I remember the lady that worked there asked if I needed help.

I haven't been in there since last year. The only reason I don't want to go back is because of the prices, not the customer service issues that I read in the previous posts.

I don't know why Karibud would say such awful things in her post, when we are only making a note of our experiences at the Mountain Candies store.

Karibud, first of all, welcome to the forums. Sorry you don't agree with some opinions posted here, but that's what makes our Country so interesting. The freedom to choose.
Second, I do not sit around all day looking for people to blame for my problems. Thanks you for caring, but any problems I have are my own doing.
In my original post, I was trying to purchase gift baskets, $$ is not an issue, as I just wanted to get some customers a cool gift.
Third, I have a few jobs. I teach, am a Special Advocate for children, care for a disabled parent, am on the board of directors for a Mission in Mexico and run my own family, so, naturally, that leads to
fourth, I have a LIFE!
Most of us here on the forums are College Graduates, family oriented and generally good people. I'm really sorry you came in at this time & were upset by the postings. Hopefully you will find topics more to your satisfaction in other threads.
Again, welcome to the forums & have a wonderful day.

I went to Mountain Candies a few days ago to get something for my little brothers 2nd Birthday.

I purchased balloons, stickers and a stuffed animal. The lady that helped me was very nice and asked me many questions about when the ballons would be used, indoor or outdoor, what elevation, etc. to make sure that she filled them properly so they didnt explode. She also told me that I could come back if I had a problem with an exploding balloon. The service was good, the price was reasonable for what I bought and they had everything I needed.

I then told the lady that I owned Oakhurst Online and these forums. Her eyes about popped out of her head as she asked, "Is that where they say those horrible things about me"?

I then told her that I had some good things to say and would bring up an old topic and give her a good review. So, here it is... anyone that knows me knows that I'm gonna be honest about reviewing a local business and I can honestly say that Mtn. Candies worked out well for me this week and I will return.

I know of, at least, two others that posted to this thread that have returned and were satisfied. Give them another try!

I would also like to remind local business owners that this is a great place to communicate with your customers. Please register and respond to feedback about your business. I know that this has worked out well for many business owners up here.

I finally went to Mountain Candies today for my first time...

I really liked the store. The exterior never drew me in...but with Christmas shopping underway, I was curious to check them out. And I'm glad I did. What a great place to go for unique gift ideas and for candy and chocolate lovers. I was a no maintenance customer...quite happy with just looking around at my own pace and making my own decisions. No service required. It's just as well no salesperson was on me right when I set foot in the store. The lady who rang me up seemed nice and polite.

I thought their prices were good...and gift baskets were well-priced.

I'll be back.

I've been in more than a few times over the years and never had any bad experiences.
There is a ton of interesting stuff there.
Yummy English toffee, and lots of different fudge, if you're into that.

One time I went there to get things for an Easter basket I had planned to anonymously donate to a worthy cause. When the owner found out what I had planned, she donated some nice things for the basket. It was very generous of her.

One thing that did not seem so nice about that experience had nothing to do with the candy store. When I dropped off the basket where this one young person worked, I left it with a woman at that place of business. She wanted to know if I had the hots for the kid the basket was for!!!! Geez! Never mind that somebody JUST wanted to do a good deed for somebody else, as a good-hearted gesture. I guess for somebody to think it was for "evil" purposes, they must have the sort of mind that naturally works that way. How truly sad for her.

I have to go back. I couldn't resist the chocolate urge and opened up one of the bags of chocolates I got for gifts...the milk chocolate malt balls are awesomely good. They kick Whopper's behind out of the park...the chocolate is real thick around the maltball. Mmm, it is sooooo rich and creamy and good.

I've come to realize, I need chocolate.

Ohmygosh, I almost forgot about them. For some reason I thought they had gone out of business. Will definitely have to drop by for the holidays.

Went back to Mountain Candies this week. When I walked in the young lady working alone at the counter said "hello"... I wandered around just browsing. Then decided to give some of the candy in the case a try. It was fun to pick out the different candies individually - like a donut shop. I've never done that before - not even at See's, just always bought pre-boxed candy.

I decided to get Newcomer a 1/2 pound box for Valentine's Day (early) - mostly filled with things I thought he'd like. It was only $8 for 1/2 a pound... pretty comparable to a See's or Whitman's... but in this case, you get the candies you like... I always wind up throwing some of the See's or Whitmans away because inevitably there are few I don't care for the taste... So you don't waste chocolate if you buy there... (Waste chocolate... what a sin!)

Discovered a couple real Gems!

The chocolate covered marshmallows, Cherry Tiger bar (OMG - to die for!), Chocolate fudge filled...

They also have sugar-free chocolates/candy for those who can't have sugar.

The Young Lady was nice and pleasant. Another customer came in and she said "hello" to them too.

The owner/manager I think it may have been came in - and I noticed a gruff personality who interrupted the young lady and me as we were ringing my stuff up (you'd think she would have waited for her staff to finish with her customer)... but I suppose that's the way some people just are.

Other than that, I had a great experience there.

I'm going to have to try it again. I need to get some sugar free hard candies. Since I stopped smoking (yay for me!) I've been eating alot of hard candies and now the sugar is keeping me awake at night!
