I saw someone selling those big wood bear statues off Hwy 41 in oakhurst out the back of a trailer or something once...they look hand-carved and are really cute - anyone know where I can get one of those bears and how much they run?

those particular bears are carved from redwood I believe. He sits there often and in other parking lots around town. I don't remember the prices. But they are beautiful. I see him at Raleys, and at the "corner" parking lot of 41 and 49.

Ryan and Dan are setting up north of town past Suburban propane most nice days. If you want to PM your number to me I'll give it to Ryan. He can let you know when he will be setting up, or maybe show you some at his home.

There's another place where wood bears are being carved and sold...it's in Coarsegold. Just past the heart of "downtown" if you're heading south or before town if going north. It's an actual store where engraved signs are also made and sold. I just noticed the bear carving and finished statues yesterday as I passed it. Didn't stop to check the prices.

The guy with the redwood bears is from out-of-town - he used to work for Disney, hence his talent. Once those bears are sold, he will not have that redwood any longer - that's the last of a very old redwood. I don't know what he usually carves out of.
His medium bears were $2-3k if I remember right.
But at the trading post on 41 there is a local carver - you can stop in his shop.

Ryan was selling bears at the Jade last Thursday night. And, if I heard right, there are a couple of bears available for sale at the Oak Room too. We need to make these guys sign the bears!! The bear that showed up here a couple of months ago had no ID what so ever....thankfully, after a 'tree'ternity test, we are 99% positive Ryan is Hank's creator!!!
MntBreeze must be psychic....she said Hank was one of Ryan's clan without even seeing him! Now that I know...the resemblence is uncanny! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/lol.gif

I just talked to Ryan, a small one $40-$50, a 2' $125-$150. His phone number is 760-2900. Tell him Scotty gave you the number. I saw one in particular he did..a bear climbing a tree. OK, they did the bear, and fastened it to a tree. That one was ALOT more. It was big.

KK is right, I also met this guy from Disney and he told me the same thing, great work... but a little to pricey, if you want a good looking bear for a better price you can also check out Tony's(the woodcarver)next to the Traders Post on 41.
