ELEVEN years after O J Simpson walked free from Americaâs most controversial murder trial, the former star athlete is at the centre of a row over reports that he is being paid $3.5m for an autobiography in which he describes how he âhypotheticallyâ might have murdered his ex-wife and her male friend.
(Before this devolves into an incrimination of the justice system, I can tell you exactly why Simpson is free right now - the prosecutors and the LAPD were astonishingly incompetent in how they handled the case.)

OJ is free because the glove didn't fit. Hahahaha.
Really though, he is a smug and sick individual who does not deserve his freedom. I believe that it will be shortlived freedom however as everyone dies at some point and Hell isn't much fun.

No, he went free cos LA was afraid of another race riot.
i.e. shades of Rodney Allen King.... I mean... no one got convicted cos Reginald Denny was brutally beat up in the middle of an LA street.
(did I say that?)

Fine. The money can go to the Goldman family. I believe he still hasn't paid his civil court judgement.

The head DA, Garcetti, made the initial mistake by moving the trial to LA from Santa Monica. He also made a mistake with Christopher Darden, now there's a piece of work, and the rest of the main attorneys, eventually picked for appearances rather than competence.
I was acquainted with one of the members of the initial team, before the change of venue, and after he questioned Garcetti on a number of decision, he was removed. The guy was one of the best prosecutors in the LADA's office, but no one questioned Garcetti and got away with it.
Ito was a total zero, afraid of ruling against the defense because of possible appeals.
TV, a total circus.
Jurors, made black jury nullification a household term.
But it was proof that money is a significant factor in acquital, OJ was able to hire the creme de la creme of defense attorneys and it paid off.
Be interesting to see if he is able to shield his money from the civil judgement against him.

I don't need any more information about "OJ" Simpson.
It's allways about him http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/annoyed.gif He never talks about his two loving children, nor their mother's family, and Ron Goldman's family.
When the Verdict came out I about cryed http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/cry.gif. The DA, Attorneys and Mark Ferman helped Johnny Cochran use the Race card to free a Murder http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sick.gif
The civil trial Validated what we all already believed... http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/greedy.gif http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/evil.gif http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/confused.gif
I wouldn't boycott the sponsors nor the publishers products, because this is America and a capitolistic system http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/greedy.gif.
The sponsors and publishers know that sub- standard tabloid news sells fast and furious http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/rolleyes2.gif, so you can't blame them for making there companies money http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/bonk.gif, even if it is at the expense of two dead lives and two alive victumized, motherless children http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/no.gif.
The only thing that I just can't get my arms around is how OJ Simpson has managed to stay alive this long http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/mask.gif.
I truly expected some enraged person to kill him on a golf course in Florida by now http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/shout.gif.
As Allways, That's just what I believe, your opinion is yours to believe.

The trial was too soon after the LA riots of 92. (rodney king trial). I still believe that the jury was scared s*itless to convict him for fear of another set of riots.
and did anyone convicted for the brutal beating of Reginald Dwight?

A book like that by Simpson is about as morally responsible as a cookbook by Jeffrey Dahmer. I won't read it or watch anything about it on the telly.

LA judge freezes O.J. Simpson money By ROBERT JABLON, Associated Press Writer
Thu Jan 4, 1:13 PM ET
LOS ANGELES - A federal judge prohibited O.J. Simpson from using money he may have received from a canceled book deal and TV interview in which he reportedly told a hypothetical tale of how he would have killed his ex-wife and her friend Ronald Goldman.
U.S. District Judge Manuel Real issued the order Wednesday, freezing the money during a hearing about a lawsuit filed last month by Goldman's father. It remains in effect until a Jan. 24 hearing.
The federal lawsuit accuses Simpson of "fraudulent conveyance" and alleges that he created a shell corporation called Lorraine Brooke Associates last March that received at least $1.1 million.
The suit contends the company was created to hide money from the book and TV deal so the Goldman family could not seize any of it to satisfy a 1997 wrongful death lawsuit judgment. With interest, that judgment is estimated at $38 million.

Last nights news said the book will most likely be released for Christmas 2007. Something about the ownership rights falling back to Simpson and 450,000 copies sitting in a warehouse waiting for distribution.
Hard to believe not one copy has been leaked out to the public by now

O. J. Simpson's book may still hit bookstores by end 2007
New York, Jan. 1 (ANI): The long awaited book of O. J. Simpson, 'If I Did It', may hit the bookstores towards the end of 2007.
A report published in Time magazine says that the controversial book can be published around next Christmas.
The book, probably the biggest publishing fiasco of 2006, was scheduled to be released in mid-November last year, but had to be killed by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. following widespread public outrage.
Some 400,000 copies of the book were printed, and are still waiting to be out of warehouses.
A source close to Simpson told the magazine, that the disgraced gridiron star would get the rights to his story back in 12 months, and be able to resell it toward the end of 2007.
The source also said that several European publishers were willing to print the book in their respective territories, reports the New York Daily News.
Meanwhile, Fred Goldman, the father of murder victim Ron Goldman, has filed a lawsuit against News Corp. for 800,000 dollars he claims it paid to Simpson, and is demanding the legal rights to the book. (ANI)

Judge may dismiss OJ Simpson book lawsuit
Reuters | Thursday, 25 January 2007
GOOD READ: Controversy and a court case over the aborted OJ Simpson book If I Did It is continuing.
LOS ANGELES: A federal judge in California said he had no jurisdiction in a legal fight over the money paid to OJ Simpson for his aborted book If I Did It, likely leaving lawyers for the father of murder victim Ron Goldman to pursue the case in state court.
Fred Goldman sued Simpson in December over the reported $US1 million he was paid for If I Did It, in which the former American football star muses over how he could have killed his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.
In January, US District Judge Manuel Real froze Simpson's advance for the book until he could further consider Goldman's legal claims. But on Wednesday Real, citing Simpson's residence in Florida, effectively put an end to the case.
"I don't have personal jurisdiction. He's a citizen of Florida. I feel that jurisdiction is in the state courts of Florida," Real said during a hearing in his Los Angeles courtroom.
Simpson, an American football star turned actor and television pitchman, was acquitted of the June 12, 1994 murders. But a civil jury in 1997 found him liable for the deaths and ordered him to pay $US33.5 million in damages to the murder victims families.
Little of that judgement has been collected and Simpson has vowed to never voluntarily pay.
"The federal courts have never had anything to do with this case," Simpson's lawyer, Yale Galanter, told reporters outside court. "They got kicked to the curb."
Real did not immediately dismiss the lawsuit but Goldman attorney David Cook said he expected the judge ultimately to do so. Meanwhile, Cook said, Goldman's legal team would pursue Simpson in California state court.
"We're going to be filing a motion in state court to reach the book monies," Cook said.
Last week a Los Angeles judge, acting on a request by Goldman's lawyers, issued a limited restraining order prohibiting Simpson from spending royalties or otherwise moving around funds from any past deals, including media, books and magazines, until a hearing in February.
The order does not apply to the advance from If I Did It.
Controversy over the book prompted News Corp. chief Rupert Murdoch to scrap If I Did It and an accompanying Fox television special in November.
The Simpson book deal and television interview were brokered by maverick publisher Judith Regan, who was fired from her HarperCollins imprint, ReganBooks, about a month later amid accusations of she made anti-Semitic remarks.

Just saw on Yahoo that the judge rejected it, said it was out of his jurisdiction, that the suit should have been filed in Florida. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/rolleyes2.gif

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- O.J. Simpson has been found guilty on all charges in the alleged gunpoint robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas casino hotel room more than a year ago. The 61-year-old former football star faces a prison sentence of 5 years to life.
A weary and somber Simpson released a heavy sigh as the charges were read in rapid fire by the clerk in Clark County District Court. He was immediately taken into custody.
The verdict comes 13 years to the day after Simpson was acquitted of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, in Los Angeles.
Co-defendant Clarence "C.J." Stewart also was found guilty on all charges and taken into custody.

Reguarding the book: Regardless of where any money paid goes (or went), would any person with an ounce of integrity write (or even ghost-write) a book describing how he could have murdered the mother of his children? It goes to the question of character, of which he has none.
Now, he is finally convicted of another crime in which there is no doubt that his morally bankrupt character was revealed, and perhaps his actual guilt. I just hope the prosecution and the judge didn't leave a basis for appeal, which we can be sure is coming. He has dodged too many attempts to enact a fair judgement already.

Just remember, they WILL appeal, and hopefully they won't be allowed to "shop around" for the judge they want to go in front of as sometimes happens. It's not over yet, but it's a great start to him getting what he should.
