My husband and I are toying with the idea of going on vacation to New York City this winter. I know, going in winter is probably stupid, but it's the only time I can get away. Does anyone here have any hints, ideas, advice?

Gosh it's been a long time, 1999, since we Leafs went to NYC...Manhattan, rather. We stayed at the Rihga Royal (a la Kraft Foods)...which was in decent walking distance of Times Square. Lots of walking and shopping and eating! We crammed a lot into our few days of free time and it was in April. But highlights for me that I would recommend are going to Tavern On the Green (very nice lunch) and from there taking a horse carriage ride in Central Park. Taking the subway to Battery Park...there's also a huge, georgeous museum within walking distance of there. Food...Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill and Virgil's for barbecue (of course)...
You should go...it'll be fun!

I've always wanted to visit NYC during Christmas. I'll make it there one of these years.

I havent been to NYC since 1977... but I remember going to Mama Leone's for supper... oh man, "ala carte" spaghetti was HUGE!! Also, you must saunter up to a sidewalk pizza place where you just order thru the window and walk away with a hot slice of nummy pizza.

Don't forget a trip to the top of the Empire State Building (just don't call me from the top like I did to my Mom at 8:00 a.m. EST... cause NYC is 3 hours ahead of us!!!)
I don't think you can do the Statue of Liberty tour during the winter... but you can see it from Battery Park across the bay.
and um... hmmm... what else - shop shop shop and go to a Broadway play or visit Wall Street!
Oh ya, the Plaza was overrated (to me)... old and small rooms... but it does have a great location just across from Central Park.
