View Full Version : Teddy Bears for Concerned

BGW
Feb 11, 2006, 10:09 AM
I would like to gather up as many Teddy bears as possible and donate to the Teddy Bear Club from us but in Dick's name/honor.

It would be fun to go to thrift shops and to yard sales together as a group to gather up any stray and homeless bears. Next Saturday is good for me.

As is the norm for us OOF-ers....lunch somewhere could be arranged!

Any bears that are just laying around the house with out a purpose would be greatly appreciated as well.

BGW... teddy bears do not "Lay around" my house. Any teddybear left loose and unattended becomes chew toys for the pitbull and the malamute. Poor Pooh and Tigger.... met their end in Topaz's Sapphire's and Emerald's Jaws (actually, Emerald just tossed Pooh and Tigger off of "her" bed.. she didnt do much chewing.. she prefered my sunglasses prescriptions) but I could be tempted to gather up some thrift shop bears for donation http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

Bgirl, I'll get some teddy bears over to you Thurs or Fri morning about 10-ish...sound good? Not sure if I'll be able to make it to any service...but I'll be there in spirit. If Jan from the Mountain Bear Fan club comes in for lunch this week...I'll talk to her about Dick and anything they've got going and about the OOF teddy bear collection in his name. Jan (or Janet)...I've seen her at a shop or office in that center across from Sierra Star on Golden Loop...I don't know what her position is with the Mountain Bear Fan Club, but she has coordinated their lunch/meetings at our place.

Mibrew...good to see you back!

I do have new news. The Golden Chain Theater is will to host any service/memorial/wake/ our groups want to have. However, the theater wont do this without the blessing of the family and so far, the family has been contacted and they are not saying if they will agree to a service or if there is a service to be held anywhere at all.

It is possible that Dick's wish was to not have a service....hadn't thought about that yet.

I am going to do a little more leg work today and see what we can come up with!

I still want to donate Teddy Bears though. For those of you needing a drop off point: You can find me this Thursday and friday @ the Smart Dollar between 10 am and 6 pm

I just wanted to let everyone know where we are on the gathering of bears! I know there are more on the way. Anyone wishing to still find homes for wayward bears please let my self or TOT know.

The first picture are the bears currently being 'fostered' at my place and the second photo is of the bears running amuck at TOT's office!

Thank you to everyone that has given a bear (or two ...) a chance to live a new and fulfilling life!

Too cute BGirl - thanks for posting the picture - I can see the bears we all brought to Lucy's -

Look at them all- and all inspired by Concerned.

I'll try to get some more!

Keith

All the bears look so cute.
I think that Dick(concerned) would be smiling and so happy to know that Bears are on there way to children, in his Honor and Memory.

If the Melodrama can't help with a service, I can get the Elks Building and even our Chaplin, if needed. We could have our own wake and present the bears to whom ever you all decide.

I'll beat that Kristine would even help with photo and small Human interest story about Dick and his Love of Bears and their healing ,along with soothing effect, when given to a child.

http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/lol.gif My Brother is coming for a visit next month and says he will not under any circumstances spend his time here in a bear cave hibernating!!http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/rofl5.gif

Which means I am forced to set a March 15th deadline for this Bear Event.

PinkPoses is going to make the needed calls to find out the best place to make the delivery of these wayward bears.

I think it would be fun if a group of us made the delivery. And, yes Keith, it would be cool if the Star picked up the story. OOF members are great at helping their own, but we are all also great at helping the Community in general!

Again, Unemployed Teddy Bears can be dropped off with TOT at Sierra Chiropractic (next to the grocery outlet) or PM me. I can even arrange for pick-up!

The First Annual Dick Bartholomew Memorial Teddy Bear Round-Up kicks off today!! This years event will run until March 15, 2007.

I have some bears and other animals I've been looking for homes for. I'll be home over the weekend. Can I meet someone someplace, like downtown or something, to give them to you? It's actually some bears, bunny, and different animals. Some are beanie baby type ones, but others are bigger. Never been played with (well, except by me http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/blush.gif).

I am unable to run the Teddy Bear Round-Up this year. I had hoped the Round-Up was going to get picked up as a Senior Project, but...well...I've heard nothing back.

It would be great if someone could/would take on this fun little project. My situation right now is such that I can't even offer to store the Teddy Bears this year...though I do have a good base of animals to start the Round-Up off with.

I would sure hate to see the project fall to the wayside...

If I were in need of a senior project...this would be the one. It requires almost no effort and is a lot of fun too! I would even turn over the MySpace page.

I truly wish there was a way I could fit the Round-Up in this year. But with the recent passing of my Mom, the combining of households and The Mister going in for a slow recovery time surgery soon....well, you get the picture.
