Can I just come as I am? The 70's and 80's are a blur - too much happening - having kids and growing up myself, adjusting to marriage, buying our first home - I have no idea what went on outside of my personal life.

Love, Love will keep us together
Think of me babe whenever
Some sweet talking guy comes along singing his song
Don't mess around, You got to be strong
Just Stop, 'cause I really love You
Stop, I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together
You, You belong to me now
Ain't gonna set you free now
When those guys start hanging around talking me down
Hear with your heart and You won't hear a sound
Just Stop, 'cause I really love You
Stop, I'll be thinking of you
Look in my heart and let love keep us together Whatever
Young and Beautiful Someday your looks will be gone
When the others turn you off Who'll be turning You on
I will, I will, I will, I will be there to share forever
Love will keep us together
Said it before and I'll say it again
while others pretend
I'll need you now and I'll need you then
Stop cause I really love Ya
Stop I'll be thinking of Ya
Look in my Heart and let love keep us together
Whatever I will, I will, I will
Stop cause I really loveYa
Stop I'll be thinking of Ya
Look in my Heart and let love keep us together Whatever
I will, I will, I will, I will

I have an idea. Why don't all of forum members donate a picture of ourselves in the 70s or 80s to make a collage. We can use it for part of decorating.

What do ya think?.

I don't have pics from those days - lost 'em in flooded basement back home. Besides...been trying and trying to think why I don't remember wearing fad/trendy clothing in late 70's/80's and well, gee whiz, I was wearing maternity clothes and breast feeding styles. My kids were born in '78, '80, '82 and '89!! And I am NOT wearing maternity clothes to this event!

Is this event still on? Will the new owner go along with it? Will Sandman be there?

Kahlua Kid
Feb 04, 2006, 07:28 PM
That's sort of what I've been thinking.

We did the OAG Carnivale last year to help Sandman keep OF going since he was carrying the burden of the costs. It was meant to be a "fundraising" type event.

But if another is to buy the site as a business and tool to make money, then they don't need us "volunteering" to help "raise" money... they'd be making money off ad sales, banner sales, whatever they decided to do with the site.

Although - it is still a fun event to put on and have for OF members. Maybe we just don't do live/silent auctions this year - just a dinner/dance?

I'm a little concerned about how we ask local businesses for donations to help Sandman and the OF when we don't know what OF will be or who will own it by the date of the event even.

I suppose I'll let the OAG committee convince me.

I'm also concerned as I see the Elks Lodge is on the MLS being sold - we've reserved May 20th there... will new owners honor our date/reservation? How do we even know new ownership won't be a residential use building a new home and knocking down the existing structures? or a new ownership that wants to remodel and will be in the throes of remodeling in May? or...???

Keith - do you know anything about this?

Keith
Feb 04, 2006, 08:28 PM
The Elks lodge is for sale, But as for a time frame the soonest it could be sold would be 120 days from the start of escrow, because of approvals needed from grand lodge and the county. So even a quik escrow would be a min. of 120 days. We have the building , if we still need it, I know this for sure http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/yes.gif.

Summer
Feb 04, 2006, 08:49 PM
So Keith, is it true? Has the building been sold? We hadn't heard of that but was expecting it. So Sad. Wish I had the $$$ to buy it for the sake of the Elks. Let us know.

Keith
Feb 04, 2006, 09:00 PM
No the buildings and 7 plus acres haven't been bought as of yet.
It was just listed with a Broker in the area. We had a couple of low ball offers but are waiting to get a realistic price for it.

There's 11,400 square feet of building alone , which translates into $100. per square foot , The value of comercial building in california. So that means that the building alone is worth 1.2 million, then we have 35 campsites and 7.35 acres , so the value is somewhere around 1.5 million "in my own opinion". Time will tell what it will sale at.

It's true that Carnivale and the Premium Membershikp fees did raise enough money to keep the site going this past year. However, it was not enough money to pay me for the time I have put in. My time administrating the site has been all volunteered at this point. Since I am moving and getting a full time job, I will not have the time to donate. So, the site is going to be sold or closed. Since the future is unknown, it's best to cancel the fundraiser event this year. If there is a new owner to take the site over, he/she can decide to do a fundraiser and OAG can decide if they want to help.

Thanks OAG for being willing to help again this year. I just think its best to pull the plug for now on the fundraising event.

BGW
Feb 06, 2006, 06:16 PM
Dodger, I like your idea. But wouldn't putting on a dinner dance mean the pre-sale of tickets in order to fund the evening? i.e. food, entertainment, decorations if any etc.

I am wondering if at this point it is worth checking into some of the local dining establishments and have them handle a banquet type affair for for us? Something where we could take over their banquet room and still have entertainment maybe?????

I don't know...just a thought.

I believe the OAG is still meeting later this month- but what it will morph to is the committee's decision.

It can be cancelled altogether - but why? We're still friends. And who knows where OF will be at that time - going with a new owner? closed for a bit? still going with group members buying together?

Or it could just be a dinner/dance for fun - no fundraising... just a party for all.

Or it could remain a fundraiser if a group was to buy the site to keep it going...

Who knows... the OAG will still meet...
