A couple years ago I was a member in a different forum and a dude there started a "Random Nonsense" thread..

You just post whatever you want... like how your day went, what you thought of, your grocery list, whatever you want.

It is sorta fun.. turned out to be about 500 posts or so in the end...

(I give credit to Tot for making this come up in my head.. she said something about randomness somewhere..)

Mysteefied

bunko is a fun dice game with 12 players 4 at each of 3 tables (the head table, the middle table and the low table) basically you have 3 dice at each table and teams of two. each person rolls and starting with ones, each team who wins goes up or down a table according to score, until you've rolled from 1 to 6 on the dice..hmmm....anyone have a better explanation, its coming out sounding VERY complicated, and its sooooo not!

Anyhow, we get together (the same group of women, unless someone cant make it, then we get a substitute) We get together the second thursday of every month, always at a different players house. We have lots of fun, and at the end 5 prizes are given out, according to different things, such as high score and so forth.

Aren't you glad you asked? http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/lol420.gif

http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wall.gif What does the word "literally" mean to you?
Apparently, to some people, it means "figuratively." Which, to the rest of us, including Merriam Webster, actually means quite the opposite of "literally."

For example:

"My head exploded with excitement!" <--- figure of speech. Your head did not explode, but you used such an image to convey how extremely excited you really were.

Now...

"My head literally exploded with excitement!" <--- whoa!! Now what you are saying is that THIS IS NOT A FIGURE OF SPEECH and that your head did, in fact, explode... perhaps we should all be amazed that you are able to converse given your condition!

Other uses: "I've told you literally a million times to stop doing that!"
Literally? So, if it takes 1.5 seconds to say "stop doing that" then this means that you repeated that phrase constantly for a total of just over 17 days without stopping?

So... people who use "literally" when they mean "figuratively" literally need to DIE. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/evil.gif

When I was a young man my group of friends held a couple of parties, or more, every year. During the evening someone would sit down at the piano and the rest of us would gather around to sing. After about one line of the song every body would turn and look at me so went over to the sofa and sat down and just listened. That is how I discovered that I was tone deaf.
See TOT, you are not alone.

I am sitting here practically paralized because I am so upset. My kids found my kitten basically dead this morning. He was barely breathing and his body totally limp with his eyes rolled back. I am thinking he got bit by a snake. My neighbor (my dads friend) is a Vet. He is going to look at "King" tonight.

I called my dad to tell him what was going on and he was here quick. I put king in a box ontop of a blankie and my dad took him to his house so he could watch him and so I wouldn't be freaking out all day. I have already done the crying and panick attacks.

The mother of king was the only cat I've ever had (she lives at my mom & dads house) that had babies. None of our other cats ever had kittens (spayed or nuetered). So king was extra special to me just because I saw him right after birth, etc.

At the same time that I am gasping for air, balling, having the kids search for my Veterinarian neighbor, my dad shows up and says
"Br*** is at work. He took "Misty" (mom of the kitten) to work with him this morning so he could fix her". That made it worse. If my kitten dies, she can't have any more. None of the other cats can either.

I am sad, but, the more I look at the OO forums I start to giggle a little.

Sorry for a depressing post. I had to let it out. It hurts. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/cry.gif I love my "King". http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/cry.gif

Hey Myst-

King ended up dying yesterday afternoon. Our Vet. friend examined him and said it was "Blunt Force Trauma" his neck and upper back was broken, he died an hour after the exam.

It wasn't caused by an animal or falling out of a tree he examined for those things. Something had to have fallen on him (like a boulder), or had to have been stepped on to have done sooo much damage. I have no idea what happend. The kids don't either.

They are taking it better than I am. I can't stop crying. Right now, all of the kids are saying bye to the kitty. My baby Teegan(2) was so happy to see him (after not having him for almost 24 hours) she yelled "yeah... Kitty!" Then, Robert explained that he is sleeping... forever. Teegan started to get upset. Teegan said "I love you kitty" then she ran over to the box that he is wrapped up in and said "Bye kitty" with one hand on the box. That broke my heart. Teegan loved her kitty & carried him everywhere with her. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/cry.gif

Thank you for your thoughtful response Myst. I really appreciate it. Sorry if parts don't make since. I am upset. Having a hard time typing.

Talk to you again soon.

Questions I ask myself... "Did I accidentally step on him?, Did the kids accidentally run over him on their bike or did they step on him? Did king get crushed by a car backing out of our driveway?" & so on. I know I will never find out the answer.

One of my family members got really mad at me when he/she found out that it was "Blunt Force Trauma" that killed king. She/He actually thought that it might have been done on purpose. I heard the dogs barking really loud that morning. They were going nuts!

I have no idea what happened... But, I do know that It is very hard to deal with. King was sucha' good little baby kitty. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/cry.gif

Thank you very much for your support. It is really appreciated during this time.

Is it okay to cry infront of kids?

I keep being told to be "strong" and not to cry infront of my kids. It hurts to bad not to cry and just hold it in. I have already tried. But, hearing "don't act like that infront of your kids" makes me feel horrible.

Maybe it isn't okay to cry infront of my kids. I don't know... What does anybody think? I didn't think I was doing anything wrong. I thought that it was okay to show emotion to my kids... so that they would know it is okay for them to do so to. Is this okay or not? Thank you for your comments everybody http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/confused.gif

Oh my gosh, my kids are seeing me cry everyday as I am looking out of the window for my kitty. I believe they learn how deeply we can care for someone/something when we show our feelings. I don't think you should teach your children to hold things inside. It is healthy to talk about your feelings. (anger would be another subject, though).

The last time I saw Stetson he was in my backyard laying in the sun. He might have just gone down by our creek and walked somewhere where someone found him and decided he needed a new home http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/sad3.gif It has been 1 week today that he has been missing. I am going to go out and put up more signs, couldn't hurt...

OK, for the professional opinion, If you do not let your children see you cry, or show your feelings of sadness, anger, frustration, and yes, even happiness & joy, they will not learn how to behave in a given situation. Too often children are expected to be "the big boy/girl" and not cry or get upset. This damages their psyche by not allowing them to put an action to their emotion. They grow up confused & not able to understand the feelings that they are experiencing.

On the other hand, crying over a lost pet, while important, must be just that crying & sadness over a loss. Not dramatic wailing & dragging on for weeks. This also confuses children, as they tend to live in the present. You, above anyone else, know your child. Don't let them turn it into a major dramatic event. Let them understand you are hurt, accept that they are hurt & cry over it. Dwelling on it can lead to an unhealthy depression.

Children need to realize you are human, you hurt and you can move on. This is modeling to them behaviors lacking in todays parenting. Although sad, this event will help them to grow individually.

If you are religious, pray for the safety of the animal, but DO NOT tell the child that God will bring him/her back. Children lose faith on the unrealistic promises of parents & teachers.
Do not attempt to replace the pet (though from your post I don't see this happening).

From a parents perspective, by all means let them see you cry, parents are allowed to cry & have feelings. Too many parents let the child make all of the choices & have all of the emotions. You are a person & your feelings should be validated, too. Tell them how you feel & why. Maybe you don;t feel like reading a particular book or story to them because at that minute it might make you cry. You'll do them a favor by having them realize you are a valuable person, too.

Isabelle did that and she had a chest cold. We had to give her antibiotics and keep her away from other kitties.

It was kinda cute because she would sneeze then wipe her nose with her little paw.

I have a cat doing that as well. We had him on anti-biotics, it never cleared up. He is always sneezing & stuff. I think it is allergies in my cat.

Keep an eye on your cat. Make sure that his/her fur doesn't get more oily than usual & that he/she is still eating the same.

He was so small that someone may not have known. I initially thought he fell out of a tree, but, the vet said that a fall from an 80' high tree wouldn't have caused this much damage.
His neck and upper back were broken.

I am starting to believe that "Foul Play" is involved in the death of KING and now my completely black cat BobBob is missing. The dogs were barking really loud that morning, like something was up kind of bark.
BobBob hasn't been seen since the death of the kitten. My friend told me that she saw him after that, but, I never did. He is ALL black, and is blind in one eye. He is the ruler of my cats and of most of my heart. I miss him. I hope he is ok and will come home. What in the he** is going on? http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/annoyed.gif

It's not always exactly noticeable to the driver when they run over a cat...it could feel like a small bump and by the time you check to see what you ran over...it's gone and you wonder "what was that? hmmm."

I'm telling you this because I ran over my own cat in our own driveway. It was the most horrible thing and it makes me just sick thinkin' about it. But my 11 yr old cat must've been sleeping behind the wheel...on a hot summer afternoon, he was so out he obviously didn't budge when the doors slammed shut and the engine started (normally, it'd alert a cat to move).

As I was backing out, I felt something...a bump. As I backed out further, I checked the driveway...I thought I ran over a toy which wouldn't be a surprise. There was nothing there. So I continued on my way taking my then infant son to his Dr appt. When I returned, my husband told me that Weezer (our cat) came to the backyard glass door panting, with his tongue hanging out and coughing up blood. They immediately took him to the vet, and he died on the way.

Weezer suffered internal injuries that were not outwardly visible (except for what I described). He got enough of an adrenalin rush to run in no time at all (remember, he was gone after I backed out just a bit further) and then fly over the 6ft fence to get to the back door where he knew he could get help.

Always check behind your tires before you get in the car...but if you've got cats like mine, they sometimes choose the shade underneath a next door neighbor's car. Cars and cats just don't mix.

It's been 5 years, and yes, it still bothers me when I think about it. Like right now. Weezer had a good and full life...even though it was an accident, I am still bothered by the fact that I killed him. Perhaps, I'd be less bothered if someone else did it.
