June 8, 2006 - The real story is now coming out about why the Dixie Chicks postponed their scheduled concert in Fresno.

Initial ticket sales for the band's upcoming tour are far below expectations and several dates are being canceled or postponed.
Ticket sales have been stopped for shows in Houston, Oklahoma City and Indianapolis, and several other shows are on the bubble.

The Dixie Chicks were supposed to come to Fresno in September.

They postponed last week, saying it was because their European and Canadian tours were going so well.

Their declining popularity.

the old saying they made their bed and now they have to lie in it...they need to go to a third world country and see how that is run and see how high the taxes are there and they also need to learn a little respect for the leader of their country. He is not going to do everything correct, but we as Americans are responsibile to respect the office

I don't think it has declined as mush as our President's popularity has.

Besides, I thought we had freedom of speech in this country. I applaude the Dixi Chicks for speaking their mind.

Do you boycott all people/artists that disagree with the war?

I do not applaud the chicks for putting down the country music scene and other country music artist, like Reba, Toby, and Gretchen. Because of that I will no longer purchase or download even listen to there music. However Reba, Toby and Gretchen have my support.

I never even liked their music. Ppl do have right to speak out their mind... etc etc... I just never cared for the band, their songs, their sound.. too poppish to be even called country.

I saw them on Howard TV a few weeks ago. Howard apologized to them for making fun of them in the past and told them that he respected the fact that they spoke out and didn't give in to the pressure even though many country fans support the war.

I haven't boycotted them. One must first support something before one can say they are boycotting it...I respect freedom of speech, yet at the same time I feel the freedom of speech we have today is a very warped misinterpretation of what this country's founding fathers had in mind. Hey, but that's just me.

Hahaha. Yeah and you all order your fries with freedom instead of french right?

Oh and Ann Coulter is to be applauded for saying that the wives of the dead victims of 9/11 are lucky and self indulgent. Don't boycott her, or Fox News that plays her bull****. Boycott the Dixie Chicks because back in the day they were outspoken about the administration that has corrupted our country and our outlook and our lives, every single one of us, years before the majority of Americans figured it out.

Seriously, peel that W sticker off your car, because you look like fools.

I am not big on country, so I don't think I've heard the music, I also apparently missed what they said that is looking on here to be quite contraversial.

Guess I need to pay closer attention. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/confused.gif

I was never interested in the Dixie Chicks since I am not a country music fan. After they were in the news with the political comments, I gave them a listen. I like them. They have talent. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/yes.gif

I never did like the chicks. I couldn't stand their music. They sound more like Madonna wanna be's instead of country. I really began to dislike them when they put down country music fans. I thought that was disrespectfull and stupid on thier part. That really made since to put down your own fans. Then they go and wonder why no one wants to listen to them anymore?? http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/confused.gif

Europe can have them. I used to like them well thier music. What they said about the Pres. I really don't care. However I don't want to pay $60. to listen to thier political views. When they started putting down other country artist " I don't want to be in the same cd changer with Reba and Toby" hahahaha They should feel privledged to be in the same cd changer as Reba. Then they hmmm Natalie starts putting down country music fans. Then Natalie starts in on Gretchen. Gretchen is singing about her life, redneck or not. As far as I'm concerned they can go to Europe and stay there.

The Dixie Chicks were a good group. Can't say whether or not they are now. All I know is that I had an album err tape of one of theres when I was going through a divorce and being single mom, student, and worker and it was like therapy to me. And I hate country music (with the exception of McEntire, and a single Garth Brooks song).

Maybe though that is why I liked the Chicks. And this was before the Bush statements, or maybe it wasn't. I didn't have time for politics, etc, I had enough of that already with the ex's family and their BS.

Last friday us moms took our kindergartners to the Fairway Cafe for lunch. One of the moms was talking about her hubby. When he comes home, how long he'll be gone next time. I asked what he did. He sets the stage for the Dixie Chicks.
She said he's looking for someone else to work for because of all the shows that have been cancelled he doesnt have enough work and he doesnt want to go to Europe.

Many people don't wanna travel to Europe. Many others don't wanna fly. And many just don't wanna be that far from their families...

Sorry if you don't like the Dixie Chicks speaking out, and showing their dissent for our idiot president. I didn't care for the country music they made at first. But you cannot deny the quality of their music. I just became a fan. Their live version of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" is beautiful. I am impressed that rock producer Rick Rubin produced their new album. They don't need the redneck country fans. They are more than that. They are just a great group of musicians who will survive the backlash of people who are too stupid to understand them anyway. After the interview they did on Howard Stern, I am convinced they are much more sophisticated than the detractors who are just mean people. They can go buy Toby Keith albums. Leave the Dixie Chicks alone, they don't need you anyway.

That's an awful lotta name calling.

So, if I don't care for their music, I'm "stupid"???? Guess that Masters in Education isn't worth much anyway...

And they're a great group of musicinas because they can, Um, rerecord someone else's song? Yup, that screams quality musician to me... http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/rolleyes2.gif

And I, for one am so happy that they "don't need me", cause if they did, they'd be awful hungry.

Dodgergirl, I did not mean that as a personal attack on you. I think the people in Texas, who made some of them find another place to live, move out of their homes, just because of a comment made about George Bush, are stupid.
And in case you didn't know, attacks were made on them personally, as in threating their lives.
I'm a new fan of their new music. The cover of the Fleetwood Mac song, "Landslide" was beautiful and attracted me to their music.
I then bought their new album, and love it. It's produced by Rick Rubin, who is a great Rock producer. He believed in them and knew they could make a truly great album. And so they did. Not caring about the radio play they knew that would not be there. Good for them.
They are more than a country band, they are great musicians, and the interview I heard them give proved that they are smart women also.
One comment, even like the one John Lennon made in the 60's, about the Beatles being bigger than Jesus, does not mean a damn thing to detract from their music.
I like old Cat Stevens albums, some of his songs are the best ever written, by anyone, ever, in the history of music. But I don't like what his politics have become. The music is still good.
I am not stupid! I just love good music. You'd be silly to believe that any musician believes in the same things you do, just because you like some pop song. Anyway, I am sorry if you thought that I meant anything bad against you, and I'm sure you feel the same way I do about the people who threatened Natalie Manes life. Right?
-----------------------------------------------
By the way, I agree with the statement they made then, and the ones they have made recently. Which by the way, most of the American people now agree with.
They have put their careers on the line for their beliefs. That's a bold thing to do, for women. Their new album went to #1 the first week. It's good. Not a country album, it's just a good album. And a big F U to all the detractors.

Much nicer post this time, MM, and while a I agree with you on a lot of points, I get upset when someone overgeneralizes... ya know, stupid people & such...
Anyway, thanks for not name calling in this last post... & whats F U mean? http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/rolleyes2.gif
I do not believe in threatening anyone's life, it's against my basic principles.
And, finally, in context, The Beatles were bigger than Jesus when Lennon made that statement... http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif
