It was common community knowledge that Beacon was going to be closed for remodeling. They had signs posted for a month or more it seemed.
I drove the couple of 'blocks' to the am/pm while Beacon did its Valero thing. Never once did I not find a long line inside and more than one frantic, paniced cashier at the counter. Just a thought...but wouldn't beefing up the schedule have made sense. I am sure a large portion of the Beacon regulars justr scooted over to arco for those few days. Double the business....double the staff??? IMHO

As for prices they are pretty decent. My only problem with ARCO/AMPM's service is that they need to really learn about the idea of customer service... and I mean other than just pointing to something when you ask where it is. A smile goes a long way. I understand that they may have a less than fulfilling job, but if they were a bit nicer then maybe they may get a something in return in some way. If it wasnt for them being open when I am going to work so early I would not go there.

My point of view is that they have a help wanted sign on the front door most times I've been there.
The employees are allways talking to each other or busy moving around the counter instead of watching for customers and helping out with a smile.

I get my gas at the arco in fresno. cheaper. thats what matters to me. It costs me $58 to fill up the jeep there. It would be more if I did it here or in Oakhurst. I was getting emergency gas in ylp the other day and this excurssion was filling up. At $2.79 it cost him $110.
emergencies is the chevron in ylp. And their friendly.

I should stay out of this one too, but ....nah.
AM/PM has a couple of good ones. Josie is one. And as for bad service, well, it isn't spectacular, is it? Usually only one clerk on at a time, overworked and when it seems like they are doing nothing, I'm guessing they are just regrouping like we do at Valero.Beacon. Whatever.
I know that they do about the same amount of business we do, a typical afternoon shift is close to 300 transactions. Figure 1/3 of those transactions is multiple person,(families friends buying things together, etc.)so roughly 500-600 people served. Plus cleaning, stocking, and the other crap that goes with convienience stores...cleaning broken and dropped drinks, gas spills... checking in vendors. I'm sure they feel overwhelmed . So when they get a minute, they rest. And talk. I know that customers want undivided attention, but there are customers in there 24 hours a day. And other work to be done 24 hours a day. So even though I rate service as poor, (and personally I think Valeros service is mediocre at best), I understand why.

Hmmm, usually Josie is the one of the people there that treats me the worst.I almost called Mr Greene after her lousy service one afternoon... a smile would not break her face or a kind word not stop the world.

http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/snobby.gif I went to the Arco last week just to get a diet coke while I was washing my clothes at the laundry mat down the street. The clerk was not friendly at all. She was sort of snobby. She was listening to a country song, and I commented that it was a good song. She just said "yea" and practicly turned her nose up at me! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/shout.gif http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sick.gif How rude!!

Josie is notorious for being a grump. After you work in customer service type settings I would be too. People are stupid.
