Well, it's official sports fans. The national debt limit was raised to 9 trillion. Do any of us really think this government can survive if it continues to borrow so much money? This activity is beyond stupid and all of us are at fault for not demanding change.
Some other fun numbers:
1. War in Iraq now approaching 400 billion. To put this in perspective, the cost for the first generation fusion reactors is estimated at 10 billion. Obviously the war in Iraq was a very good investment, right?
2. Trade deficit for 2005 - 726 billion
3. Budget deficit for 2005 - 319 billion
Think these amounts are still bearable? Since 1970, in inflation adjusted terms, the federal government has spent 700 billion on transportation projects. Then compare that to our total annual deficit of 1.045 trillion for 2005. Translation: we're screwed.
