I got a call from a friend this morning regarding a mountain lion eating everything insight on the parkway. She lives about 1/4 mile from me and she saw it last night around 6pm eating a rabbit. This is the 3rd time she has seen it eating. She has several dogs both in and out. The outside dogs are in a dog pen. They have been barking at it. It has not come up to her house to get her cats but, it continues to eat whatever it has while the dogs are barking.
She said YLP security has been getting alot of calls re: the mountain lion in which they have put several calls in to Fish & Game to catch and release it else where. They were told we have 2 schools on the parkway (sandcastles and ylcc) plus Rivergold. Fish & Game have done nothing. My friend notified all of the schools to keep a look out and is calling everyone she knows in turn people like me calling everyone I know.
Sometimes I have to blame the people that feed the deer here in YLP. Our deer are so tame I have yet to see one run away. You can be driving and see a deer on the side of the road stop and look at it. The deer is only about 10 ft. away. You can take walks and have a deer not to far away from you. Hence this attracts the mountian lions because the deer are so plentiful here.
Hopefully there will be alot of calls into Fish & Game by YLP residents that they'll get thier heads out of there a**'s and come and get this mountain lion before some little kid get hurt.
Moral of the story. People please don't feed the deer.

I was told by one of the residents here that when they called fish & game they said that's what a community like that gets when they feed the wildlife. Usually bears and mountain lions don't go into populated places like YLP. But what do yo expect when you feed the deer and wild turkeys.
I also had a well known resident come here because he thought I was the one that called the school. I invited him in and told him who placed the phone calls and my conversation with her this morning.
He is concerned because of the preschool and he has alot of cattle here that are getting ready to deliver. He gave me his number and told me if I see the mountain lion to give him a call. Since F & G arn't going to do anything about it he will.
I will make some phone calls re: calling the local news stations.

Not all the residents feed the wildlife - and what a judgemental comment and off-the-real-subject offhanded remark. Report them!!!
Ridiculous...
Ok -so... there is still a dangerous mountain lion near children - not afraid of humans...
If they don't take care of it - someone will shoot it... and that's inhumane and if they don't kill it, then its danger level increases all the more...
Incredulous!

Yea so what do you do in a situation like that. My nieghbor said his 7 year old was 50 yrds away from the mountain lion. Now thats scary.
Plus the lion was 1/8 mile away from a preschool. C'mon
Thats why I say F & G needs to find it and relocate it but they wont. So if the lion goes into the wrong yard it will get shot. And thats sad.

We are having a big problem with a bear at the NGI for the last couple of nights. It broke into 2 employees cars and got itself stuck in the dumpster (then got itself out) Our caretaker took a couple of shots at it late last night to scare it off. We've been fighting with Total Waste for YEARS trying to get bear proof dumpsters. They always say all the bear proof dumpsters are being used in Yosemite and they have no spare ones. Finally today I told them that if one of our guest's children or pets gets harmed, it'll be their fault. They said they would try to get us a new dumpster by Monday. I've called out a trapper who says he has to get a permit from Fish and Game, so I have also called them. Haven't gotten a return call yet. Hopefully the gun shots will have scared him off for a bit.

There is an article from Fish and Game saying not to feed wildlife in the Star today.
It gave this link:
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/keepmewild/index.html
It touches on the predators (mountain lions specifically mentioned) following prey around homes.
You can find the article here:

thats a good idea Michelle thanks. And thanks YJ for those links very informative. But when you live in a community like YLP and some people feed wild life we all pay for it. Maybe I'll call Karen Luce (YELP) and have her write something in her paper re: those links.
damn with your guy's help my light bulb came on can you beleave it..http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/idea3.gif

I don't think they relocate Mtn. Lions. They will return.
