I have a yorkie. He is my constant companion when I am home. I got him when he was a puppy and have had him 7 years. He is a little charactor. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif I also have a collie. They get along great. My little yorkie is spoiled and demands a lot of attention. But, he is a great dog. Always happy and playfull.

I also was thinking of getting one..I really want a little lap dog. One that I can take with me everywhere. I was also interested in maybe a papillion..or maybe a long haired chihuahua...been checking the paper for pups..I'm sure smaller dogs are harder to potty train. not looking forward to that

What makes you think little dogs are harder to train? I have never heard this.

We kept a chihuahua for a friend for a bit and she did the same thing. What we did was when you first go up to the dog is flip it over on its back. They wont pee and after awhile it learns not to. We have a Bichon and we have no problems with him. He goes to his cage at nite. He needs a friend.

Big or small, you should crate train your dog.

I watch my son's Pomeranian all the time. She's 6 months old and was house broken in 3 weeks. They got her when she was 8 weeks old, so she was house trained by the time she was 3 months old. I always used to have small dogs, terriers, doxies, never had a problem with them having the run of the house and being house broken, never had to crate train them either. When I was house training them, they were confined to the kitchen where it was all tile. they weren't allowed in the other carpeted areas of the house till they were trained.

My grandmother-in-law has a Yorkie...she has good bladder control and lets her know when she needs to go outside to go potty. They live in an apt.
Todd's aunt used to have a Cocker Spaniel who had poor bladder control...I don't think it had anything to do with training. Whenever she'd get excited, she'd pee. Psychosomatic? The dog was kind of psycho (may she RIP). Maybe some dogs just have their own unique problems, conditions, and disorders...like people.

Well I got a male Yorkie today. Will post pix later. Little male born 11-24-05. Maybe when I post the pix I will have to start a Name that dog thread.

Ah he's so cute! What a lucky boy to be rescued from a damned life in a cage. That's what I hate about petshops...it kills me to see animals in cramped cages, especially knowing they've been in them for even longer than a day! The hardcore animal rights person in me wants to open all the cages and let them go free! But that'd have seriously adverse consequences, I know. I thank you for saving your new Yorkie... at a big cost, I'm sure. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gifOriginally posted by motherof4:

Not really they we talk to the breeder and owner of the shop. His original price was $1800. But we drop them down to $400. Poor guy in that box for 3months he jumped out when we open the cage almost hit the floor. Some guys just have great reflexes.
