My dog, Kato, goes in for surgery on Friday. He has had a lump on his head for over a year now. When he first got it, I had it tested for cancer and all turned out okay. They told me that I could remove it if I want to but didn't have to. I choose not to since he is getting up there in age and removal would require surgery.
Well, he popped the damn thing open and it's starting to really bug him.... so, off it goes! Please keep Kato in your prayers this Friday while he is under the knife.

It would be a good time to have the Vet. also do a teeth cleaning since he will be sedated anyway. Saves you some $.
My first dog had bad tartar on his teeth 'cus I never fed him dry/crunchy dog food, or had his teeth cleaned.(I now know better)It ended up causing kidney probs due to the bacteria, and took a few years off of his life. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/cry.gif
{he made it to 18years though}

Thanks all for the well wishes for Kato's surgery today. I dropped him off at Hoof & Paw this morning and his surgery will be done by noon. I can then pick him up this evening at about 4ish.
I went ahead and told them to clean his teeth, clean his ears and trim his nails.
I'll be worried about him all day, but I am sure that this was the right thing to do. He will be much healthier in the long run.

He's in good hands Sandman! They've always done a great job for us.
Hoping Kato will come back happier and healthier!

My brat doggies are dreaming good thoughts for Kato.
I love hoof and paw... though they are a bit forgetful at the check out line... like forgetting to weigh my pitbull topaz for heart worm pills.. but the vets are just great.... I gotta take my Malamute/Horse mix in for a mange tx... cos he has scabby areas on his face. he is half pitbull terrier.... not sure where the horse comes from but hes a big as one!

Kato was in some pain... started whinning a bit.... so I gave him a pain killer. Now he is very high and doing well again. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/lol.gif
He is laying right next to me on the floor right now. I decided to stay in on this Friday night so that I can be home with him in case of problems, but I think all will be fine.

I just lost my best friend.... I was fortunate enough to have Kato for half of my lifetime. He was truly my best friend and I would do anything to have him here with me right now. :(
He was having a ball earlier today, with my new puppy. Then a few hours later, I was making the hardest decision of my life. His stomach turned... he was rushed to Fresno.... but it just wasn't worth his suffering to send him to the operating table with a 10% chance...
Please excuse my absence from the forums and life in general... I need some time....

Oh Mat, I am so sorry. :cry: We lost ours in October of 2003 at 14 yrs and still really miss him. It is so hard. Even though we have three more (one was 5then and she also still misses him, one just a pup of 4 months, and one we've gotten since) nothing can replace him. He was the best dog ever (half Rott half Lab, all black and named Snowball!!) so I know how you are feeling. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Mat, haven't met you yet and still want to say I wish I could somehow take the pain away - our old lab went to sleep for good last December and I cried for days. We know a little bit how you feel. You have our sympathy, unmet friend.

Thanks so much for the kind words everyone. It's been a very difficult week. I keep thinking about Kato and get all teared up so I have to think about something else to avoid breaking down at work.
