Please pray for Patrick Warren. He is currently fighting for his life in a burn unit in southern california. He was burned in a flash fire on 425C on Sunday the 4th of Sept. in the early morning hours. He was helping my daughter get a house ready to move into. She was in the process of renting this house. He was covered in paint and decided to take a shower. He went to light the pilot on the water heater and it blew on him. He is covered over 75% of his body with 3rd degree burns. The ambulance didn't get there in time to drive him so my daughter had to drive him all the way to Saint Agnes, where they air lifted him to Southern California. He is currently critical but stable. He will go through another operation on Monday.

75% of his body? Thats nearly incompatible with life! He is lucky to be alive. Im surprised that they didnt send him to UMC's Burn Unit. (which is impeccible)

Apparently UMC was full at the time so he was air-lifted to Sherman Oaks which we have been told is an excellent facility. He will undergo antoher surgery tomorrow so please keep him in your prayers. His family is here from Kansas and the hospital has graciously put them up in an apartment. His spirits are good and he is young so all of these things are in his favor. The doctors have told us to be optimistic but realistic. The odds are not in his favor. They have told my daughter that he has around a 30% chance of living.

Just a little background on Patrick. He has been on Search & Rescue in Yosemite for the past 7-8 years. He is an experienced rock climber, even having an article about him in Rock & Ice magazine. He has been involved with many rescues over the years. The sad thing is that when he needed to be rescued, the dispatchers couldn't get the information correct and no one could help rescue him. My daughter had to drive him all the way to St Agnes herself. I have a problem with this! I don't know if they could have done anything differently but they are trained in emergencies and my daughter is not. Patrick is actually the person that came down from Yosemite and found Jeremy Carter when no one would call an official search out for him. Jeremy's wife is my daughters best friend and when she called to report her husband missing, she was told that they had 2 deputies on duty and they would try to keep an eye out for him. My daughter called Patrick and he came down immediately and did his own search of the lake and found him. This is the kind of person he is. Very dedicated..Anyway, I'll just ask again to please pray for him and his family. His recovery is all that really matters...Thank you all for your prayers.

I am hoping that that 75% 3rd degree is an incorrect number and most fall into the 2nd degree range. He is at the Sherman Oaks burn center, they are the best around. My step-father (a roofer) was burnt by hot tar over a large portion of his body and had 3rd degree burns and they took great care of him. We will say a prayer

The number is correct. They originally thought he had 60 percent of his body with 3rd degree but after the initial surgery, that changed to 75 percent with 3rd degree. How did your family member recover? This young man is 28 yrs old. I realize he is going to have a long road ahead of him but any information you would be willing to share would be helpful.

My dad was about 30 when this occured. Tar splashed all over him and because he was wearing no shirt the tar covered most of his torso arms and neck. there is no way to wipe off tar when it hits you so it continued to burn and nurn. A fello worker jumped off the roof and got to a hose to hosehim off but that took over a minute. They rushed him to the Grossman burn center and he was there for about a month. He had a terrible time because before they could treat the burns they had to remove the Tar. It took them a couple days of whirlpool baths to get the tar off then the real work began. they did many skin grafts and he recoverd. the scarring healed well and his skin was smooth but the color of the grafts and burn areas never matched his original skin but he did recover well. This was back in the 70's and the technology is now far more advanced and they can do wonders. These next few days are critical. Hang in there.

Yes, I hear ya YW. I worked at SOBC for awhile many many years ago. I am not a health care provider but work in admitting. Yes, it is considered one of the best in the country. Only good thoughts and prayers coming your way Patrick. You are in the very best hands - S.O. burn center and God.

Thank you all for your prayers. Patrick is on the road to recovery. The doctors are amazed. They are actually saying that his scarring will be minimal except for his legs. They will be able to use his own skin for most of the grafts. We do realize that he is not out of the woods yet. He does have a small infection and I guess things can turn bad very quickly. We are all greatful to everyone for your prayers. Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are trying to keep optimistic and just knowing that there are people that care helps him alot. He send his thanks.

Patrick was moved out of ICU last week. He is still having a few more surgeries on his legs but his upper body is done as far as surgeries go. His foot is not accepting the graft as well as the rest of his body. The Dr's cannot believe the recovery he is making.
My daughter has come home for a break and to go back to work for awhile. I had no clue what he has been going through. I knew it was bad but listening to her tell me all these details was horrifying. The dr's have no idea how he survived and how he is recouperating so rapidly. Prayer is a wonderful thing. The fact that he was in supreme physical shape didn't hurt either.
He is in for a long road but I know he will make it. He is spending his days doing physical therapy on his own. He is very determined.
thank you again for your prayers and caring.
