I HATE being fat and I HATE diets. I did Nutrisystem for a few days, thought it would be easier with my schedule to have pre packed foods, but I cannot handle the food. It's just icky to me.
So, starting first thing in the morning, I'm back to Atkins. I lost on it before, kept it off for 5 years and then went through some real emotional personal stuff and gained it all back, No I have to get back on track, I DO NOT want to be a fat bride! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/cry.gif

i had a lap-band surgery at Stanford medical university this past nov. 7th. i lost 23 pounds prior to surgery, and have lost 25 since. i have not lost any wieght recently, i am going in for my first fill/adjustment in 2 days.
they would like me to loose 140-160 lbs, but, i would be content loosing 100 lbs. i have a very large bone structure.
i looked into this for a year and half befor i had the surgery, i had to go to all kinds of classes, tests, appointments...and i joined several online support groups, so i knew just what to expect. i spent 1 1/2 days in the hospitol and am surprised how fast and well i have recovered.
5 years ago my mother had a gastric by-pass surgery, and is very ill right now, spent the holidays in the hospitol, complications of surgery, and also malnutrition. she did not pay attention at the classes about her proceedure, and what she was suppose to eat and take to stay healthy. glad i chose the band instead of gastric by-pass. there is no reason for me to suffer like my mother.

Mystee, first of all I do not think you are grossly fat! No way! But I do know your pain and frustration at trying to lose weight. This time last year I started eating healthy and exercising - walking and treadmill when weather was bad. Got scared after AC1 test showed early stage of diabetes. After 4 months I was seeing results. But because I did not feel like I was ill and my lifestyle changed - started a new job - I gradually quit trying. Now I'm not feeling good and back to where I was. Started over again today. Like Cat mentioned a while back - it has to be a life change - not for a month, not for a year, but for the rest of your life. I get encouragement from people on here who post their same struggles with this thing and persevere. It's true that a support group is a good thing so I'm thinking of joining weight watchers. It's normal enough that you can handle it the rest of your life. It's normal food, but portion control. I think I can live with that. I was on weight watchers last year but did not go to meetings. For me, I need the support of the group. Good luck Mystee and maybe by summer we'll have changed our tune about our fatness! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

I know of the frustration also. I have been fighting weight problems all my life. Then about 3 years ago, I was on some meds from the doctor to prevent migraines. Even though they say it is rare, the meds made me gain 100 pounds in a year. Now, no matter what I do I can not get it off. I stopped the meds against doctors advise and stopped gaining, but I can't get it off. I have even went down to 800 calories a day and still nothing. Then last month I found out I have very high blood pressure. The doc put me on meds for that. I am now eating a lot of veggies, turkey, chicken and mostly good stuff. I don't have a scale, so I don't know if I have lost anything yet. Probably not. I cut out all the salty and fattening stuff. My problem is my big refridgerater broke down, I can't afford a new one, so I am stuck with a very small 2 foot high fridge, no room for anything. I also am on a buget with only about $50 a month to buy food. Anyone have any suggestions on how to buy good for you food with that kind of money? Or Without a fridge to store or freeze anything?
I need all the help I can get. I can not afford weight watchers or anything like that. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sick.gif

I have a friend who has a fridge she is giving away, It's not new, but she was using it in her garage for extra food and now doesn't have room for it anymore, I'll see if she still has it, I'm pretty sure she does. If so, would you like it?
Where are you located? perhaps we could work out together, in your livingroom or mine? or walk or something. sometimes being accountable to someone else helps too.

Bluejean, I have actually been looking into that lapband thing. I was thinking maybe it could help me get used to even eating smaller portions. Was it terribly expensive?

Like Summer and others....I too have had my diabetic scare which turned me into a 'grazer' last March.
I now eat all day long but just a couple of bites of something here and there. If hungry I might go get a few bites of say cottage cheese. When I get peckish later...grab an apple or a spoonful of peanut butter.
The holidays were rough as there were too many formal sit down meals. Which I find very hard to eat any more. The buffet at the casino was a toughy! I filled up the salad greens and veggies..mostly; and then had just a bite of the sinful things so I didn't feel 'left-out'
Muscle burns calories faster than fat....excercise is key. In the winter, I love to walk from Ridgeline homes to Bass Lake Village or ride my bike from Ridgeline to the dam. This started with baby steps. I was hard pressed to make it to the Falls and back in the beginning and I walk for a living. I can always use a walk buddy and cheer team!! If anyone is interested.
I wasn't kidding about the dancing either. I lost weight in my early 20's by eating a huge Ruby Tuesday's sized cheese burger and fries everyday and dancing 5 nights a week. I toned up up as well.
Horseback riding was another good one for me. The excercise you do doesn't have to be aerobics or step class. It can be just something you find fun....maybe metal detecting. You end up walking way more doing that than if you just went for a walk.
I have been itching to get active now that I am basically not working. So, let me know if you'd like to go go go!!

My experiences have shown me that keeping weight off is about 60% exercise and 40% diet.
When I first started worrying about weight (after my first desk job) I would run about 2 miles 4-5 days a week. That kept my weight manageable at around 185 (from 200), but I still maintained a terrible diet. Soda, chips, and pizza, all the time. We then decided to do away with all sugar and empty foods, like chips. We focused on whole grains, fruits, and veggies, with a little meat. I then dropped to 170.
My feeling is that weight loss should be started with an exercise routine. Keep eating the same until you get the exercise habit. Then add in the good diet a couple of months down the road. Weight loss can't be hurried, IMO. Whether you are a carb-freak like me, or an atkins person, it doesn't really matter as long as you remove the sugar and junk. Good luck!

Myst, You are a beautiful and special woman so don't stress about weight, it will only make it harder. Wake up each morning and look in the mirror and say "Hi Beautiful" or "I love You" or any affirmation that puts you in a positive frame of mind. Realize that permanent weight loss is a lifestyle change of eating healthy foods (mostly fruits and veggies and cutting out the white sugar and flour) and doing things you enjoy that involve some form of exercise. And we are NEVER as fat as we think we are anyway.
You are going to be a beautiful bride because you are a beautiful person.

That would be cool to have someone to walk with. I can't do too much exercise because of a bad knee. The knee is almost gone due to severe arthritis. But, I would love to go for walks. The only problem is I work nights. Are you available around 8 am? I would love to go walk somewhere around Bass Lake when the weather permits. I get off work at 7:15 am at Childrens Hospital.

Mystee,
Have you tried the green tea diet? If you don't already know about it, you can do a search online. I cut and pasted a few sentences about it:
"There's good news for dieters: green tea appears to speed up calorie burning, including fat calorie burning."

I also like parking at the Fork's and just heading anywhere.

I'll be there again in 8 1/2 months.
Yep.
Good luck Mystee... I have been blessed with high metabolism, and high energy (thanks Dad). At least you won't be a pregnant bride!
You are a beautiful person, and you have a beautiful body.. everyone does (well not that guy that was on the show the other night, 1 ton man, on Discovery, that was horrible, maggots and all)...
A girlfriend of mine has been going to Curves and watching what she eats, and feels that she will never be down to ideal weight. She believes that she is beautiful the way she is, and her hubby thinks so too. That is what matters, Carl loves you just the way you are, and you should love yourself. You are a perfectly beautiful and healthy and lovely person Cheryce... you will make a gorgeous bride!
Do it one day at a time. If you can get through today eating healthy, excerizing and feeling great, you can do it tomorrow.

I know what you mean about a busy scedule. I work nights, and I work 2 jobs. One full time and one part time. It is really hard to find time to go walk. I used to have a great work out tape from Richard Simmons. But I lost it when I moved. That would be great if you could get me a copy of your tape. I will be glad to pay you for it. Let me know. My Mom's office has started either walking or doing a work out tape in their break room on their noon hour....which I thought was a great idea. I was thinking about joining in with them sometimes too. Like on rainy days etc.

Sounds like you guys are working out some good plans to get where you want to go. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif I, too, am one of the many who is on a "lifetime of healthy eathing" rather than a diet. (I do Weight Watchers.) I have weighed as much as 192 (on two diff occasions) but now hover around 140-145. This is a pretty good weight for me. At the moment, I'm about 7 pounds up from where I want to be...so I'm really focused on eating right, and getting back on track too.
If I lived up there, I'd definitely be walking with you guys, schedule allowing. Hang in there, and stay the course. It's the persistence that's the thing. Even when/if you "fall off the wagon" a little...just get back on. It's the only way to keep it up. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

Luckily I didnt gain anymore weight.... thanks to all the walks and kayaking this summer.. and DANCING! (thanks KK and Messy etc etc). I just keep paying a month for ww... check the site get recipes etc and log in my food eats....its not a diet.. its "healthy eating" this week im on a veggie kick... and gotta have juices or any thing with antioxidents in it. i go on these "cravings" so WW is best for me.

This is really frustrating!! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/shout.gif One month ago I found out I have very high blood pressure. The doctor put me on meds to bring it down. Since then, I have been really watching what I eat. No more hambugers, french fries, cookies. I am eating mostly veggies, salads, white meat. And I cut out salt. I went to the doctor today. My blood pressure has come down, but it is still high. And after all that hard work watching what I eat, I only lost 2 pounds!! 2 whole pounds!! WOW! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/shout.gif I really have a hard time excercising. I have a really bad knee. I try to go for walks, but the knee hurts, then by walking wrong because of the knee, my back begins to hurt! The doctor gave me pain meds for that, so hopefully I can begin to do some excercises. If I can find the time by working 2 jobs. I guess I am feeling a little hopeless right now. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/annoyed.gif

How well I know that feeling. I am sure even my doctor doesn't believe this, but last year I followed the Atkins diet religiously and exercised not only at a gym at least 3 days a week (aerobic and weight training workouts), I also walked three times a day, uphill, and spent an hour each day on a Bowflex machine. This went on for eight months and I swear I did not lose even one pound or inch. I know I wasn't eating too many fats or calories, because I stayed very much aware of that.
I know that people say when you exercise you build muscle and that muscle weighs more than fat, so people should pay more attention to the tape measure than the scale, but neither pounds nor inches budged at all. People thought for sure I was just exaggerating. Even I had a hard time believing it!

I am wondering how much of the non-budging is caused by insulin issues?
Secondly....I am asked all the time now how much weight I have lost. Truthfully I cannot tell you. I refuse to get on the scales. And, I turn away at the Drs. office. I find weighing in to be negative reenforcement not unlike A.A.
For me, moving into a smaller size is much more rewarding than a number on the scale. Smaller clothes are not only the reward but also the incentive.

I've started on my treadmill regimen and doing 30 min. walks and doing the weight watcher thingy. Just found out I'm going back East in Aug. to high school reunion. (I'm not saying what year!) Something to work toward! Would like to be down at least 30 lbs. I think thats possible. Will be good for my blood sugar also - that is the most important part. Good luck to all my fellow "warriors"!! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

I passed on my 20th reunion. I had lost about 50 pounds at that time, which felt really good, but I only weighed 110 lbs soaking wet when I graduated, so I was bound to be overweight. I will probably go to the 25th because I saw pictures of people at the 20th and that made me feel better.

I can relate to that. I passed on my 20th (it was a matter of timing etc). Did have a semi reunion.. and let me tell ya... all those skinny girls in high school? they are either in rehab, have a zillion kids, or turned gay. So I didnt feel too bad http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif.

well, I've made the choice to go back to the fitness Zone, starting Monday. Its the best and fastest way I can see to lose the weight and get shaped up.
If anyone wants to join me, I'll be there from 8-9 starting Tuesday. walking the treadmill, using the eliptical and riding the bike, just to name a few.

Well, get to see my AC1 (or A1C?) results Friday. I started back on my regimen just a week ago so won't be surprised if results are not good. You can't cheat at the last minute on this test as it goes back 3 months and averages out. Last min. "goodness" doesn't work!! Oh well, just do the best we can. As for the reunion - I went to my 20 yr. and was shocked at how everyone had aged. They looked at that time like I do now! OK, I will say - this is my 40th coming up. I'm hoping they still look older than me - but I need to do a little work! Heck, I guess I should just be lucky I'm still alive to attend this thing. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

As the last few days have shown us, an upset stomach is the real secret to rapid weight loss.

That is really good.
When I don't have that, I get a little Crystal Light Raspberry and put it in the bottle.

Just had to post this, because I have always been PO'd by society dictating that a woman isn't beautiful or sexy unless she is skin stretched over bones. Of course, every woman has a right to strive to look however she wants to, so I am not against weight loss, especially for health reasons.
But, how in the world did "skinny" ever get equated with "sexy"? For me, I would not care to hug a sack of bones, and if I want to see protruding ribs and sternums I will open my college anatomy textbooks.
If a woman is naturally skinny, that's one thing, but if a plump woman feels bad about her self because she has some love handles or rolls around her middle, that bothers me a great deal.
Society has done this damage to women and I just want to say that not all men think slender is better. A woman's beauty should not be measured by an industry that feeds upon their poor self image. They do this just for profit (hence the billions of dollars the "diet" industry rakes in), and too many people have been conditioned to go along with it, even most of us guys. We grew up with "thin is sexy" pounded into our heads and most do not even look beyond that mindset now.
Kudos to all of the women who look "real." Those are the true beauties. Paris Hilton, you're good for a laugh!

I dont want to be super skinny. Just want to be at a point where I dont have to worry about diabetes or dying of a heart attack from weighing too much.

That's good. The health reasons are excellent incentives for weight loss. I just didn't want women to feel bad if they are not, or ever will be, thin.
