I'm a little upset today...I walked into my house and it reaks of propane BAD!..( I'm sure this isnt safe)I have told my husband several times that he should check the propane tank we are probably running low..well..I checked and sure enough... we're out! I have all the windows open so we all dont die of gas posioning..now the house is freezing and we have no heat. ..MY wonderful husband was adament about putting us on a ? list forgot the name of it..where we need to call to have them fill it rather than just having them come every 3 months...he says it's saves us money...I'll have you know..we have had to pay a $75.00 fee each of the last 3 times because we have run out...Now I'm ticked..whats a women to do...lord give me strength..count my blessings right?

Pat,
Sorry your upset right now.
I worked for Van Gas in Paso Robles as a service man in the early 80's. Van gas is now Suburban.
The smell you are concerned with is the oderant that is added to the gas , because it's oderless. The house would be safe to close all windows and doors, all that is happening is the low pressure in your tank is releasing the oderant to warn of low pressure, which as you verified, is a low tank.
Call your Propane company back and tell them that your a woman, alone with children, and have health needs, ask to speak to a manager. Then you could go out to the tank and twist(clockwise) the valve to close off any more orderant coming into your home.
I'm cheap when it comes to propane, but what I have done is set a $300.00 limit on any fills , when I'm not home. If I'm here I'll go out and let the driver know how much money I would like him to put in. Some companies have a min. Dollar amount , but my past experience is $100.00 or 100 gallons , depending on the company.
Keep warm, God Bless, Keith

If you need more wood, Childers has Oak right now. They can deliver same day. Sorry to hear about your experience Pata.

My husband wanted to do the same thing with the propane. He said it would be too much money for them to come every month or whatever. Well it has saved our butts from running out.

Sorry you are cold. They will come out there right now if you call them. Maybe you can change the propane guys timing too. I don't think you are supposed to use your phone if your house reeks of propane. And they will have to do a line check because you are completely out.

OMG, well the refinery thing sucks! It is difficult to keep up with the propane, the cost is out of control. At 2.65 a gallon.. geez...

Glad you got some wood.

I havent seen a propane company up here yet that cares if you are a woman with kids alone!!I had an account with one for years like 25 and when my husband dies I was no longer on the "list" to be checked & filled, I had to pay when they came or do without. No more being billed for it.
So, I too sit with no propane because I have to wait till payday to fill it. So, they dont care.
