Well, it's happened again - just got word that another couple I know are on the way to the alter after meeting online. This makes the third couple I know who met this way - and so far seems like good matches. You hear all the horror stories about meeting online but you hardly ever hear about the successful ones. One couple met thru E-harmony dot com and during their marriage vows they humorously incorporated the word "harmony" throughout the ceremony. Anyone have any experiences (good or bad) about online mating?

I had a bad experience back in 1999 meeting a guy online. He almost killed me (beat me up and covered my face so i couldn't breathe.) He was arrested. The neighbors heard a lot of noise and called the cops. I dont think I want to meet anymore guys from online... but it was from a chat room not an online dating website. I've never signed up for anything like that. But I'm so glad to hear it's working out for a lot of people. That's cool.

I met my husband online.

Things worked out great for us. With all the chatting we did for a year before we met he knew the "baggage" I had. and what he was getting into.
We then lived togather for 2 years and married last June.

No regrets. He's a good man.

Oh Dawn, so sorry to hear that. What a horrific experience for you. Don't blame you a bit for not trying it again. You know what? I have had 2 similar experiences and neither was from online. In fact, one evolved from a friend who came highly recommended (from the medical field even!). The other was from a shell shocked Vietnam soldier on R&R. I'm lucky I'm still alive also. So, you never know. I think people are scary in general. You never know who you're dealing with.

I met my one time fiance on line. we were friends on line.. then when we met things happened. Prolly would still be with him but neither of us wanted to give up what we had.. our lives in our present places. But heck, life moves in wierd ways.. .cos if i had gone with him I wouldnt have this awesome Mtn life andMtn friends that I have now.

Lots of experiences, none horrible. But I feel I was careful. I always spoke onine an don the phone with them first to get a feel for their personality. Met in a public place, didn't go anywhere in their car etc. What have you all done to ensure your own safety? (In no way am I implying that Dawn did not take precautions, just hoping that some others with experience can add to the list of "safety tips.")

http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/rofl5.gif I have held my tongue longer on this than I did w/ Lindabo's backpacking w/ your dog question. Forgive me Summer....but everytime I see "On-line Mating" I can't help but giggle and think On-Line Mating = Cyber Sex. I find it quite funny and am surprised no one else had said anything yet! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/rofl5.gif

No Miss Smartypants - I meant "online mating" as opposed to "online dating". I wanted to know how often people who meet online ended up getting married and procreating (the usual way)! But I can see how that caught your eye! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

What do you mean - the online dating/mating or the animals' intuition?

I talked to a male friend of mine about this (same guys still listed 3 years later). He said that the guys may be dating a girl, but are still looking for the greener grass so to speak. Bottom line: if you are dating a guy that still has his personal ad up and available...he's just not that into you.
