Not *exactly* mountain life, but I couldn't find a better place to post.

On our regular 'commute' between Palo Alto and Oakhurst, we take 152 to 99 to 20-1/2 to Raymond to Coarsegold. There are many interesting sights along the way that change with the seasons, and we've been doing it long enough now that we have the rhythm down pretty well.

One mystery has always been a pair of long low buildings on Road 24, just north of where it crosses Avenue 20-1/2 about a mile east of 99. They're painted tan, they have outside shades that are sometimes up and sometimes down, there are piles of what seem to be sawdust that appear and disappear.

Last week as we were headed home in no particular hurry, I turned off. There's a chain across the driveway with a sign: Biosecure area, trespassing forbidden, with a CA penal code. In spanish, too.

What the???

Anybody know what's going on here, or what used to go on here? The buildings could have been chicken coops once, I guess.

I know what buildings your talking about. Strange I don't know what is going on. Wonder if Madera Tribune does...

Neat, thanks. It was awfully quiet for any kind of fowl, but it otherwise matches. Maybe they only use it part time...

biosecure= bio and secure. bio referring to biology and other living creatures ie chickens and turkeys.

I would safely reckon that they have the biosecure thingie up due to the bird flu thingie going around. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

just my two cents.. or is that sense ? http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

Hey!!!

Thats the Brew way http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif

I think Cak got that route from me, I also gave it to a few others that travel our way too.

I have another route for a little change, you can take the same way 20 1/2 and take the trip buy the lake, take the lake exit and follow the lake around and just keep going until you reach 415, (its the back way route to Y.L.P.) forget the name 416 or 417 maybe, its only about 5-10 minutes longer, but more views.

Another little change is before you reach Raymond, take that right exit after the pass the "Dedicated Raymond Community Park", this will be headed right by the Coldest Beer In Town on a hill before you reach the Rock Quarry, this is about a 10 minute detour, but you will not lose any time, I have went that way to beat a RV/Camper going to slow, the Camper went straight through Raymond too, and you'll both end up on 415 going to Coarsegold.

Ya gotta luv them curves http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

Did you also notice the loose rocks from the asphault sticking to your wheel wells by the train tracks??? those idiots !!!!

I think they use our cars instead of using there own rollers to flatten it http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sad3.gif

Yeah, that's the building.

I'm not sure if we got the route from you or not, but I don't think so. We tried pretty much every combination of roads through that area when we started driving out, and this is certainly the best balance between quick and interesting - necessary when we come out late Friday night.

Yes, I'm *very* tired about the lousy patching. That section by the RR crossing needs to be completely repaved!
We sometimes take the loop to Knowles when coming back Monday morning - usually not an issue late Friday night. Haven't tried the lake loop because we don't want to end up that far south (we go to Cedar Valley) but maybe we'll try it sometime.
