Ok, so my color printer told me it needed a new yellow cartridge, which I installed. It still tells me it needs a new cartridge. I have tried everything I can think of to make it work. Any ideas?

On my printer, when I put in a new cartridge, I have to put the printer through a "cleaning" cycle because a lot of time the jets or whatever they are can be partially clogged with ink. Till I do that, it tells me I need a new cartridge, even though I just put a new one in. Check your manual, see if it talks about something like that in trouble-shooting section.

I don't have a manual- it was given to me. Any ideas on how to clean?

Martha, If you go to Control Panel, then Printers, select your printer and right mouse click and go to properties. A little window should come up and have tabs, look for one called maintenance. The clean utility should be there

1. start menu
2. click on settings
3. click on printers/faxs
4. trouble shoot

?????? I hope. I have windows XP and that is what I would do anyways!! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gif

Newcomer, I tried what you said to do and it keeps telling me my yellow has expired (R.I.P.)and my printer needs attention. Duh! How am I supposed to work on my wine list? Any other ideas? I have a HP2000C printer. The yellow is brand new and I have even tried a second new one. BGirl, I tried your idea too. No luck.

Did you try unplugging it for 30 secs and plugging it back in?

If it is flashing lights it could be giving you an error code.

2000c is discontinued, maybe you should invest in a new printer... although I know that doesn't help you right now.

Monkey.... I know this doesnt help much, but I got fed up with HP printers and ONLY use Canon printers now. much easier to change ink tanks etc. used to be with the HP if the job tried to print with out paper.. i had to do all sort of silly crap... got sick of HP.
but try the turn of puter and turn puter back on trick. ive done that a few times. seems to work.

2000C's have a big problem with this. You need to take a syringe and draw ink through to the printhead input. A 1.5 mm with the tip cut off will work. Unfortunately the ink cartriges you bought are now no good when the 2000c doesn't get ink to the print heads it marks a chip in the ink tank as bad. It can be something else dirty contacts bad print head but this is the most common problem.
I like Canon the best also the ink saving alone is worth changing. The printers that HP made there reputation on were actually made by canon. All the 2,3 and 4 series laserjets were made by Canon. Epson is making a much better product again also they would be my second choice.

You might want to run through the printhead test procedure before going to any further trouble.

There are also small white pads(bongo pumps) under the ink cartridges check to see if the one under the yellow is as high as the rest. They run off a cam and pressurize the ink cartridges if one of cam fingers breaks it causes this problem also. You can fix it with epoxy and a paper clip or pay $70 for the kit.

Anyone know if Sierra Tel works on printers? For now, I'm can out it on a disc and print it elsewhere, but I gotta get this fixed soon, or my wine list is at stake. And I know how you all love wine!http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_4_14.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxmk278CVUS)

I'm such an idiot when it comes to such things.
