as a kid.. we always did pressies on xmas morning. Now, I just dont wrap things.... I buy gifts throughout december and just bring em home. I got my canon digital slr back in november... never wrapped it... couldnt do that.. cos you cant use a camera that is wrapped! In fact.. just brought home a dvd player today for upstairs... didnt wrap it, just tossed it at the housemate and said "here!".

When I was a kid, it seemed everybody opened gifts on Christmas Eve, and the stockings were not filled until morning (during the night) ... then as I grew up it seemed everybody was opening gifts in the morning. Now we wait till the morning.

For over 20 years we have opened presents at my grandma's house with all of my mom's side of the family the Suunday before Christmas. Then we opened presents at home on Christmas Day. This year, since the kids will be with their dad on Christmas Day, the kids will open their presents at my house on "family" xmas eve, (the Saturday before our Sunday "family" xmas where they will get gifts from grandparents, aunts and uncles) and I will be in Vegas for Christmas Day.

As children, my sister and I always opened one present before bed on Christmas Eve. This present was often times new PJ's or something else that could be used that night.
My sister and I would often sleep in the same room that night and we would stay up late talking about what we wanted from Santa. Our Mom would hang a blanket over the doorway to the living room so that we couldn't see in there. The rule was that we had to wait until at least 8AM or something and had to wake up the parents before looking.
After opening the presents from our parents (and them opening presents from us), we would go to Grandma's House on the other side of the SF valley. There we would see all aunts, uncles, cousins, family friends etc. to exchange gifts. Everyone got everyone a gift back in those days. There were so many gifts! It took all afternoon to open them up. We didn't even do it one at a time... it was crazy with many people opening gifts at the same time.
After we moved to Oakhurst, the family would come up here and we had many Christmas days at our home or my aunts home in Goldside.
Now, the family splits up. Since my parents split, my sister and I trade off Christmas day with Mom or Dad.
When having Christmas with my Mom in Utah, we get together with her side of the family... lots of aunts and uncles on that side too. We draw one name for a gift exchange. Kind of cool being with them since I wasn't with them on Christmas too often as a kid (maybe once or twice).
Last year my sister came up here and my brother and Dad came over, so it was a small Christmas at my house in Teaford.
This year I am going to my sisters house in San Francisco and my Mom is flying in. Most of my family (Dad's side) are going to Mexico. So this is gonna be a small Christmas also. I think my aunt and uncle (from Dad's side) will be in town, so they may join us.

This is usually what we do. One on Christmas eve, usually from someone else in the family. then the rest Christmas morning, along with the Santa Gifts that are under/around the tree, but not wrapped.
