The rent was raised and she couldn't afford to stay in that particular location. Hopefully within a few months she'll be open at a new location.

I drove through Oakhurst today and noticed a new sign where Szechuan was. Is it the same people with new name? or a new restaraunt? Anybody know the details?

I saw the same thing the other day. Today I asked the girl at Judy's Donuts what was the scoop and she said that they were re-modeling. I am not sure if she really knew but she acted like she did.

The new owners of the building raised the rent so high...Theresa, the owner of Szechuan had no choice but to shut down. The owner's of the building have brought in their family to open a new restaurant.

Newcomer...it is not a new Szechuan. It will be a new restaurant all together. New owner's, new menu new everything. I think it was kind of mean what they did to Theresa and Szechuan. Hopefully though...we will see a new Szechuan before the end of the year.

When did they close and why did they close?
Anybody know the facts?
She was such a nice owner.
I heard the rent was raised to $8,000 per month

OMG Wolfie...I didn't know anyone knew about Sun Sun but us! LOL It was the only place we'd buy Chinese when I lived in Fresno. We'll still pick up take out there sometimes when we are over that way visiting my dad.
We have discovered another Chinese place that I think is even better than Sun Sun. I don't know what it is called, but it is located on Cedar just north of Shields behind Foster's. Their food is awesome!
I am really sad about Szechuan. I loved their food! There was a coffee shop over here in Prather that had to close because of the same thing. It was really sad because it was the hang out for the early morning boys to have their coffee and visit before they started their day. The place had been in business there for years and had pretty good food and a great atmosphere.
I guess when you are in business, unless you own your own building, you always have to worry about such things. :(

Oh Sorry, I read that wrong :( That is real crappy of them to do. Word will spread and like has happened with Katies Country Kitchen I bet business will not be as good. They have to keep in mind that after the tourist season is over it's the locals that keep them alive.

I am from Illinois and I only get to the Yosemite area a few times each year. Once I found the nice people at this restaurant (especially Theresa), that's about the only place I ate as I was passing through.
For years I tried to get their recipe for the Hot and and Sour Soup! I have never had better anywhere. Any of their chicken dishes with a cup of Hot and Sour...well, it never got better than that. Then I was off to Yosemite for hiking. In fact, I was going to the restaurant tomorrow and I was looking for their hours when I ran across this link. SADDDDDD! I tried JADE across the street, but I never liked it as much. Katherine was gone and the food just did not seem as good as Szechuan to me.
A trip to Yosemite never seemed complete without a stop at Szechuan. I hope Theresa can open up elsewhere. I will be there if she does.

Not to take away from how good the food was at Szechuan, but if anybody finds themselves over at the Monterey Bay area, and feeling like Chinese food, try Lee's Garden (off Reservation Road) in Marina. Everything was excellent, but my favorite by far was the Hot and Sour Soup. Don't order a large bowl, though, unless you are with a party of 6 to 8 people! They serve a lot! That soup was the best I have ever had anywhere...lots of goodies in it, too.
