I don't really know how to go on vacation, and can't afford it seeing as i'm trying to save money, but....

Is it a good or bad idea to go through a local travel agent?

I'm trying to figure out if there's a way for a friend and i to go to Kauai or some other not-too-crowded island.

Kathy Bell at Carlson & Wagner is great
Used here for years to book my Convention trips.

But the Best Trips with out a lot of money are the 3-4 day Cruises from LA You can book right through Carnival Cheep. $250 $500
All you food and entertainment paid for.

i was looking at jamaica, too. i've only been to kauai, and i tend to go for things i know i like (boring, i know)

i doubt either of us can afford to go, but we'll have to play around with ideas of different places.

carnival? isn't that a cruise? those are definitely OUT for me.

Maui's nice. Try a rental Condo near Sugar Beach or Kehei, the Lahaina side of the island is o.k. to visit for a few hours, but not as nice. I was on Maui for Hurricane Daniel a few years back. Just incredible. Theres great day trip up the road to Hana, which although the rental companies ask you not to, you gotta take the road all the way around the island. The road isn't too bad, and their was some great people we met along the way. then the up to Haleakalea, (the volcano) which is pretty cool, too. There's an aquarium which is really nice & a cute little touristy plantation right in the middle of the island.
We went out to the crater (a 1/2 hour boat ride) and walked on the ocean bottom using these cool suits.
Check it out.

Why No Cruise?
Have you been?
It is one of the best kinds of vacation.
No driving.
No looking for a place to eat.
Pizza 24hours a day FREE
Great shows.

The Next best is one of the Sandals resorts all inclusive. You don’t need to carry money.

will look into cabo san lucas.

isn't maui more crowded? i don't want anything that reminds me of "real" city.

i like the ideaof a cruise, but i panic on boats. i can't swim and have no control and no way to get out. not a fun feeling for a vacation.

Cabo's kinda crowded..........
If you really want seclusion, you should try this little town in central Ca. I think it's called North Fork. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/tongue2.gif

If you want a not crowded Island...try Gabriola Island off Victoria, BC. Is gorgeous and really away from it all....Here is a good place to stay and the owner is very nice http://www.seameadows.com/
...rates posted in Canadian funds usually
Tell him MtnBreeze referred you. The gulf islands are in a banana belt so weather is mild most of the year....it is an artist community. Very relaxed. Vancouver Island is also gorgeous and a 20 minute ferry ride from Gabriola with many places to explore....just a suggestion and shouldn't be too expensive http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/pleased.gif

It looks like it's been a while since anyone visited this post, but I have something I'd like to share. I have some friends in Jamestown, who I've known for several years. They are really cool people, and they have a couple of vacation condos in Maui. So, even though I have not visited their condos, I feel that I could recommend them, since I know the owners, and the price is right.

Check them out at Mueller Vacation Condos (http://www.muellervacationcondos.com/index.html)

On their Hawaii page, there are two shots of the outside of the condos. Click on either one for details about the price. Oh, and by the way, if you decide to go, PM me, so I can give you my name...they might give me a discount on my next trip out...they might even give YOU a discount...who knows?

We really enjoy Kauai. We also like Cozumel for snorkeling/scube. And the beaches of St. John are absolutely amazing!

We also love Alaska - its beautiful in May/June.

And Victoria/Vancouver Island is beautful.

And... there are so many wonderful places on Earth to see and not enough time!
