Thank you to Monkey and her staff! We celebrated for a 2nd year in a row our anniversary at the Narrow Gauge Inn.

We really apreciated the gifts "B" and Monkey! Thank you for helping make our night special!

The Coconut Prawns were delicious~

And David fawned all over us, making sure we had everything we needed! (And another lady I didn't get her name? The Manager?)

We also loved having the window seat. Last year we were by the fireplace in that same dining room.

Next year - we are asking for the fireplace seat in the Bull Moose Room! (Ok we're high maintenance, we know that!)

Thanks again. We'll definitely be back.

We vote Narrow Gauge Inn the most ROMANTIC and CHARMING restaurant in the mountains!

We just ate there in late August and had a fantastic meal and great service by Zachary, our waiter.

try this out for a menu:

Lemon Drop martini
Killer giant prawns with cocktail sauce
Crispy cesar salad along with hot, hot bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and garlic for dipping
Scallops in cream sauce with mushrooms (to die for good)
No room for dessert....next time!

You all better hurry up and go before NGI closes the restaurant for the winter!!!!
You won't be sorry you did!!! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/yes.gif

It never occurred to me that you were closing for good, but it did finally get us up there. We had a wonderful dinner tonight - and we'll be back more often (but not likely this season).

I'm sorry that you guys don't at least have the bar open in winter - we're always looking for a place to stop between the Park and Cedar Valley on our way home from Badger Pass or Goat Meadow. Tenaya Lodge just doesn't do it, and for some reason Badger Pass doesn't understand that it's important to have Irish coffee after a day of skiing... http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif

Well, if it's your anniversary, I'd say dress up & have a good time. There aren't too many places up here which one can dress up for. The Narrow Gauge is one of those few places. It is true we have people come in after a day of hiking and touring, but we also have many locals come in for their special occasions. Either way, do what feels most comfortable & be sure you say hi... I'll probably be seating you tonight.

Went to The Gauge last night for my Birthday dinner. I cannot think of when I've ever had a better dining experience. I've had dinner there before, but this was by far above and beyond what I've experienced in the past. Everyone from the Hostess to the Bussers were exceptional. Our Server, David was especially attentive without hovering.
The food was (as usual) great, last night everything that came to our table was prepared and presented perfectly. As those who dined with me can confirm, my order is not the norm, nor 'off the menu'.... Yeah....I know...., but they got everything right with my order and it was soooo good... I had the Kansas City New York Steak with Portabella Mushrooms (which was one of the evenings specials) and my dining companions had Ribeye with Prawns and Stuffed Rainbow Trout. We also shared a bottle of Longboard Syrah, which I would definitely have again. (Good choice, Mat)
I would definitely recommend dinner at the Narrow Gauge before they close for the season. The food, the atmosphere, the service all combine to create a night to remember...

We went to the NGI last weekend with my Father from So Cal. He was up visiting for the holiday weekend.

And... he has put NGI on his list for each time he comes up to visit - he said the steak was cooked to perfection and was a happy camper (as we expected he would be!) We hadn't had the chance to share a NGI dinner with him before.

We love going there - the atmosphere, service and food are always consistent and great!!!

And we picked up the Cask IX NGI wine! Will have to open that on a special occasion!

Cheers to the NGI!

I have yet to go to NGI this season... (bad wolf). I just might have to find an evening near by bday and go up there for dinner.... or even just hor d' oerves and champers. Man choices! I also wanted to go to Samba Brazilan BBQ for my bday.

Reservations are encouraged, but not required. Since we are closing soon, it's been real busy with people trying to get just one more meal in. Last seating is usually around eight, depending on business.

Does NGI still serve the Scallops au Champagne or the Tournados of beef? They were always so very delicious... and the Fondu Luce was great for just going and having appetisers and wine. I worked there for 11 years when George had the place. It is truly a fine place -lots of great memories. Ya know, Danny Moreno made the place shine. He was always the quiet force behind it - knowing everything about the Gauge. Help like him is hard to come by. Now I want to go...

Yep, we have the scallops in a Champagne cream sauce and the Swiss Fondue Luce on the menu. The Tournados are run as a special at time. We really do miss Danny, he still stops by once or twice a year to make sure I am doing things right!
