went to todds two weeks ago.
stood out at the front counter for four minutes, can hear plenty of teen laughing in the back, nobody ever came out. resturant had about 4 or 5 tables going. walked out.
strike one.....
went in last week, got service :)
ordered my usual for the whole fam... all the meat, excellent as usual.
got to the potato salad, YUK!!!!
tastes worse than the packaged crap @ raleys!
barf!
i have always loved their potato salad, this was nasty.
macaroni salad, same thing, this had to be from a package at costco or something. horrid.
strike two....
one more chance, much like castillos (and katy's after owner change) was given by myself, and my family, they struck out, we go elsewhere, and so do ALOT of other locals.
Castillo's won't make it till this summer i bet... same thing ruined it for us, teenage employees giving terrible service, and being rude.
why local businesses leave their destiny in teenage hands i'll never know.
anyone patronize katy's anymore??? didn't think so....
not just teen probs there, food tastes like ****, and the middle eastern owner is mad dogging his customer all the time. only place to eat breakfast is mountain house, or pete's
rant over.....

Wow! I'm shocked to hear that service was not good at Todd's. I actually just saw Todd a few days ago and complimented him on his employees. Whenever I go in there I am greeted with a huge smile. The employees there have been wonderful! Plus, I love their food.

Todd's has always been very good when I get something there. That staff are friendly and certainly not rude. My son's family loves it when I bring a meal from there to their house in Fresno.

Wow that is a surprising post. I have never had a bad experience at Todd's my family absolutely loves it. The staff is always warm and friendly and always makes sure we have everything we need. Everyone that I now who goes there has always left happy and satisfied. I do agree about Mountain House for breakfast, their french toast is the best in the mountain area. This is making me hungry, I need some garlic fries!!! :hungry:

I'm also suprised, but any business can have an off night or two. Hopefully your next visit will be more to your liking. I'm sure if you tell Alice or Todd about your experience, they will see that you are more than satisfied.
Speaking of Todd's, how about a group lunch there sometime?

This is interesting. What happened? I do not know for sure.
We do not leave teens in charge of the restaurant (or our destiny)...in fact, we only have one teen employee. The other 13 employees are adults ranging in age from 20-48, and Todd is there everyday, but not necessarily all day long as was the case for the first couple years. We are at the very tail end of our third successful year in business. The locals are definately still coming...we have many who come practically everyday. I, myself, (Todd's wife) am there every weekday with Todd.
We do have only a couple of employees whom we trust to run the shop...so that Todd can have a life outside the restaurant (we are open 7 days a week). But we cannot control everything at every moment. I can assure you, though, that your experience with being ignored for 4 minutes while apparent "teens" were laughing is not the norm, but I'm thankful you pointed this out. Since you didn't feel it beneficial to alert Todd (or any supervisor on duty) when this occurred or soon after, would you mind giving me some more details? Such as what day and time? Could you describe the "teens" you saw who were goofing off and not doing their job? We, at Todd's, are very customer service conscious and take it very seriously. Our employees know that and also know their job depends on it.
As far as the macaroni salad and potato salad comments, sorry to hear you were disappointed. We make both from scratch. I, personally, don't think they compare to supermarket deli stuff at all....I hate that supermarket deli stuff too. Always too soupy and too tangy, with funny pimentos. But anyway. Our stuff is real and housemade through and through. In general, our customers are love it. But you can't please everybody all the time. Some people are really set in their ways or think nothing compares to their own grandma's recipe and everyone just has their own set of likes and dislikes. Not much one can do about that.
Thanks Nosmatt. Please let me know, if you can and have the time, some more information regarding your lack of service on that one visit. And sorry, this even happened.
Thanks.

Oakhurstleafs reply is exactly what I expected. They care about their customers and her reply is proof. I'm sure they will do whatever necessary to make you a happy customer. I agreed with you about Katies and Castillos, but Todd's has always been wonderful!!! I think you need to give them another chance.
I, myself, love Todd's Cookhouse and try to go there at least once a week. Everyone I go with leaves as a happy customer. In fact, I'm craving Todd's but I already had dinner tonight. I'll go tomorrow. :)

I think I could make it on Tuesday, at least for a short time. I'd love to see you all!
For my two cents, I'd like to say that I haven't yet had a bad experience at Todds BBQ, I have always had good food and good service. I only wish I could get there to eat more often.

I have always enjoyed my visits to the restaurant, even though I tend to rate my own ribs as the best. (Not "my" ribs, as I am still using them, but you know what I mean!) The ribs at Todd's were still very good and tasty...I just have my own special ways/preferences. I was disappointed that I was only able to order a basket of fried oysters one time.....I don't know for sure, but I think they are no longer available. I could be wrong, though.
I liked the atmosphere and I liked the service and the people were eager to please to make sure diners had a good experience. Nice place.

sorry took me so long to look back @ this thread.
cannot tell ya exact dates, although it was very near my post date.
I have been a patron of todd's for quite a while, we (my wife and I) generally call from our children's day car before we pick them up, then pick up food, and drive home.
We have only dined in once, which was exactly as everyone here described, hence the reason we have eaten todd's a couple dozen times in the last couple years.
We are commuters, and rarely get to dine out, but picking up GOOD food is a weekly thing for us (nearly always fridays) (talkin about weekdays here)
Since we are stuck eating fast food 5 days a week for lunch, our friday take home food is quite important to us....todd's is a very common choice, as is El Cid's, and Mountain House (and the Castillo's in bass lake-very near home)
trust me, We were quite distrought after our last visit, we thought we had lost yet another decent place to eat near home. Hopefully this was a fluke, but i gotta tell ya, we have had your potato salad more times than i can remember, i have on numerous occasions ordered JUST potato and macaroni salad when i am bar-b-que'n @ home.... for many reasons, first, im too lazy to make it often, it's a real PITA... second, it's damned good, untill the batch we got ahold of...
I am glad to hear you do not leave your resturant in the charge of children, and sorry i sounded so harsh in my first post, i was again, quite upset to actually even post.
we will give it a little while and go back im sure.
thanks for your post

Had dinner last night at Todds and was very happy with the service and the food. The 'kid' who took our order also came to our table a few times, got us boxes, and was very attentive... when we were leaving, she was cleaning up the main room, wiping down tables and generally doing her job...very nice girl and an asset to Todds...
As for the potato salad, I don't care for it either, Sooooo, I don't order it. Just cause it isn't to my taste doesn't make it bad...
Had the beef ribs special last night, actually there was so much food we shoulda ordered one meal to split... the side salad was bigger than most I've seen as an entree in many places. The ribs were huge and fries (as always) were tasty...

Todd's was wonderful last night. Service was great, as was the food. The potato salad has changed and I also prefer the older potato salad. However, it's a matter of personal taste and some may like the new potato salad better. They have so many other things to choose from, so I usually get the chili... it's terrific! Last night my dinner came with fries and garlic bread. It was fantastic! I think I prefer the pork ribs, but the beef ribs were also good and HUGE! Way too much food to eat, so I had to get a box to go. :) I love Todd's BBQ and will continue to go there.

I also like Todds, comes in handy lots of times, great family food!!!
love Garlic Fries, but sometimes they might end up real soggy, but most the time I luv um, but this happens with most every restaurant.
The only real complaint I had, was once I called in an order for pick-up, and when I arrived 20 minutes later (as told) I went to the pick-up line, but the lady at the counter said I needed to stand in line and pay first, so I was behind several people ordering (10min), by the time I paid and they handed me my meal and took it home (5 min away) our food was kinda cold , maybe thats why my frys were soggy : (
But it wont stop me, I'll be there agian, because the food is great, love having a BBQ place in town!!

If anyone wants to to try our potato salad, macaroni salad, chili, coleslaw or even the chopped brisket or pulled pork before committing to it, we'll give you a free taster-size sample. Due to the homemade nature of the product, there could be slight variances...even with those variances, we are committed to putting out a quality product that must meet our high standards. Frankly, our food is well-received 99.9% of the time...and statistically, that's pretty darn good. But once again, everybody has their own unique tastes, likes and dislikes, and pickiness and unfortunately but true, some people just have scewed up tastebuds or a poor palate to begin with ...not much one can do about that.
Thanks again. Hope to see you around!

Hello GOASTRIDER (http://www.yosemitearea.com/forums/member.php?u=9508) and welcome to our online community. I merged your previous posts into this topic since a topic for Todd's already exists. Please remember to search before you create a new thread to make sure the thread doesn't already exist. It's much easier to have one thread per topic instead of clicking around to multiple threads.
