I just went down to Todd's Cookhouse and Bar~B~Que and was very impressed with the menu, the quality of food, the friendly staff and the decor.

First, I noticed what a great job they did remodeling the place. It looks great in there! It has a very friendly vibe going on and there is little trace of the old Fosters Freeze. I give them an A on the decor.

Second, I noticed the menu. The prices are very reasonable and the selection was wonderful. I had a hard time deciding what to order, but I choose the Chicken Sandwich with some French Fries. I give them an A here, as well.

Upon ordering, I realized how friendly the staff was. In my opinion, your business can only be as good as the people working for you. The new owners did a great job interviewing and hiring a good group of younger people. They had smiles on their faces and seemed like they enjoyed what they were doing. Another A for the quality of staff.

Now last, but certainly not least.... my food came out pretty fast. I was excited to try it, so I wasted no time to dive right in. Yes, they have great food! The BBQ chicken sandwich was wonderful! I have not had that great of BBQ since I went to New Orleans. Seriously, they do know how to BBQ! I give them an A+ for taste.

So overall, I would have to say that Todd's Cookhouse and Bar~B~Que is probably my new favorite restaurant for lunch. I'll be going back later in the week to try something else.

Thanks for opening this new business! You are a welcomed addition to our town.

Todd's unofficially opened yesterday... Officially Tuesday is the Grand Opening. Tomorrow they are doing last minute items, so expect them to be closed.

Got a chance to get in today while they had the doors open.

The Pulled Pork sandwich was awesome - fries crisp and good ice cream cones too!

They have decorated the place very cute and BBQ like and Alice and Todd are extremely nice people who deserve for their restaurant to take off... and judging by the number of "stop-ins" today, they are off to a great start! Nice employees, warm welcome, good service and food - a welcome addition to our Oakhurst Restaurant choices!

Their meats are slow cooked the real BBQ way.

We give them a 10!

Had lunch there today also. The pulled pork sandwich was really good. Served on a french roll with some excellent cole slaw.
The service was wonderful, and the crew friendly. I, too liked the decor & overall ambiance of the restaurant. Looks like I need to make a change on my 'best Oakhurst restaurants of 2005' posting.
Going back Tuesday around noon to try some brisket & chili.

Perhaps we should plan a day next week when all forum members could meet up here for lunch? Do you want company on Tuesday DG? If so, who could make it?

Todd's Cookhouse and BBQ is now here and open
Well official opening tuesday.
I had lunch today with several members of Oakhurstforums and the general public. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/hungry.gif

Todd's is a welcomed addition to our mountain community. I have nothing but that warm and fuzzy feeling inside after eating lunch and then I got that cool frosty feeling inside when I had dessert, a Chocolate and vanilla swirl Ice cream cone, Yumm
http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/love420.gif
Todd's has brought to us a place that fills three voids in our area;
1. Great BBQ foods.. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/hungry.gif
2. Frosty Treats (cones, shakes, floats, sundaes and even a classic banana split )http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/eusa_dance.gif
3. Service with a smile and knowledge of products even on there first full day of business. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/applause.gif along with follow-up table service. ( These people care about their guests)

I would like to thank, ALICE - TODD - and BOB for a great lunch and also for doing such a good job in putting their touchs on a fresh, clean, better than before, business that needed someone like them to come in and make that building come alive again. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wave.gif
Thank You sooo much , Keith

I also, along with my family enjoyed lunch today at Todd's BBQ. I had the sliced brisket sandwich, ffries and coleslaw. All I can say is YYUUMMMM!! It was awesome. My kids had the kids meal cheeseburgers and they loved them! They normally don't eat most of their food, but today the pretty much polished it off followed off by the yummy ice cream cones. My hubby also enjoyed the pulled Pork sandwiches and agreed that Todd's out-did a famous Dallas BBQ chain by far!!! The atmosphere was great and so were the people and service. Can't wait to go back again. Maybe be able to make it on Tuesday with you guys. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink420.gif

Had dinner tonight at Todd's. First thing that I noticed is the menu, you can barely read the small print. Seems trivial, but it's annoying. Service, very friendly and courteous. We had ribs and chicken wings. Both were good. I tried some of the hotter BBQ sauce and in my opinion it help. I like hotter sauces, thus my opinion.

Overall, good, maybe better with time.

We finally got to go here! I wasnt personally impressed, but being from KC my barbeque taste are ridiculously strict. Like only Gates (http://www.gatesbbq.com/) will do. Maybe one of the best Ive had in CA http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink420.gif

GREAT environment!!! http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/applause.gif

Hello everyone.

For those who don't know me....I'm Alice. Wife of Todd from "Todd's Cookhouse and Bar~B~Que".

Thank you for patronizing our barbecue joint. I do appreciate your comments. The good and the bad. Your opinions are valued and will be considered. If you have the time, I'd very much appreciate hearing from you personally regarding any improvements you believe would help us better our business. Being that we've only been open a week, we realize there are certainly improvements to be made and with your help, we may be able to realize them even sooner.

As of our opening, we've been gratefully very busy...much busier than we anticipated. Thank you so much Oakhurst for giving us the opportunity to serve you. We will always want to serve you better.

Feel free to private message me here at Oakhurst Forums with any thoughts, concerns and questions you may have. I'm "Oakhurstleaf" here.

You guys are doing a great job and we are very fortunate to have you guys here in Oakhurst! I am coming in on Friday for my dad's 76 bday so we will see you then!!

Hi Yosemite Wolf.

Yes, ask for me when you come in. However, I'm only working there during peak lunch times...11:30 to 2:00 every weekday and Sundays. Todd's ALWAYS there...and if you come during a slowdown, he'd be happy to meet with you. He's super busy most of the time in the kitchen.

Our restaurant is "quick-casual"...order at the counter, delivered to your table. It's more about the food and friendly service than the dinnerware.

Please come, we'll be happy to serve you!

Thank you Nascar8fan! I very much appreciate your positive comments. It's wonderful to know that many, in fact most people are having a positive experience at Todd's Cookhouse. We see it with all the repeat business and customers coming on recommendation from friends. Getting a lot of positive feedback...and it's great!

When a pollster, one in particular here, votes that we are "bad" in food and service...I'd very much like to know why so that we can rectify the situation and prevent any further situations. When we know better, we do better as Maya Angelou would say. When someone votes "bad" without any elaboration or explanation one has to wonder why....could it be a almost hired employee we let go, a grudge? Or a competetitor? Or did this person truly have a bad experience? Anyway...just my thoughts and concern.

Please pollsters, elaborate so that we can know why you voted one way or another. And if possible, maybe we can help make things better.

It wasnt me!! LoL I havent taken part in the poll.

I think you guys should make a less sweet barbeque for those of us who like it a little more spicey http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/yes.gif

again though, pretty darn good for california BBQ, and I thought you had an excellent environment going. Its nice to see business owners still giving personal attention to their customers. Oakhurst has been slowly losing that over the years.

Hi Californeegirl.

I didn't think it was you. For someone to vote "bad", I'd think it would have to have been a much worse experience than you described. And frankly, no one has ever come to us with such a problem...no send-backs, no major complaints, nothing.

Can't please evryone all the time, unfortunately. And perhaps, you had set expectations when you came to our place or were going to use "Gates" as the model for comparison.

We are not "California Bar-B-Q"...our BBQ is southern in style (drawing mainly from Texas, Tennessee, and Lousiana (Cajun)). Todd's Original BBQ sauce is sweet, but we also offer a spicy version. Did you try it? We also offer a selection of pepper sauces so you can spice it up all you want.

California Barb-B-Q is aka Santa Maria style...which we are not. Open pit.

We actually use an Ole Hickory Pit (from MO, by the way) in which we smoke our meats low and slow.

Thank you on your comments about the decor! I did all the work (except for the women's room...my sister-in-law did that one).

Hope you try us out again!

Hi again. Hope you don't think I'm a bugger! *L*

Just wanted to say that I spoke with Todd last night about your comments about Gates and preferring a spicier BBQ sauce. He told me he knows of Gates in KC, though he's familiar with Arthur Bryant's. Anyway, he added that in his experience dining throughout the Barbecue Belt, his tastes are not so strict and he's gained an appreciation for regional barbecue standards...though he does have a "taste" moreso for that originating out of Texas and Memphis. Sweet and mild BBQ sauces are more prevalent in those regions. However, hot and spicy is still an option. Some sauces are more vinegar based, others more tomato based (tangy) and some molasses based. In Todd's experience, only about 1 in 10 want to go the hot and firey route. That's why we offer it. But the vast majority prefer sweet and mild.

We also have smoked Cajun sausage and extra-hot smoked chicken wings...oh and our Jambalaya will satisify your need for heat.

We have eaten at Todd's 4 times now and found the food great everytime and Leaf always stops to say hi. I have only one thing I wish was a bit different. I wish the Cole Slaw portion of the sandwich platter was a bit larger, I had to steal KK's portion from her. I love good coleslaw and whish it was about double the size. If thats the only thing I can find wrong theres nothing to worry about. Just my 2 cents worth. The Slaw portions with the other meals I have ordered were just the right size.

Hi Tot.

Yes, we do take-out...and lots of it! If you can come by and pick-up a take-out menu when you're in town next, you can call ahead to order and have it ready for pick-up.

An on-line menu will be coming soon!

Also we'll soon be taking faxed-in orders.

I agree that california style BBQ is like Santa Maria style ( open pit , charcoal , and dry )
I like the way that Todd and Alice have picked their flavoring and cooking process. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/yes.gif
I have been in food service for years, haveing run large restaurants and even my liquor Store with a deli. I used a pressure slow cook system in Paso Robles that was tender and sweet.

For the people that have HOT taste buds, there is always seasoning that can be added http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wave.gif, but for a complete family menu a sweeter is better that a hot sauce for pleaseing the general public. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/applause.gif http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wave.gif

Newcomer,

Need to ask...are you referring to the coleslaw portion that came with a Pulled Pork Sandwich? The "Memphis Pulled Pork Sandwich" comes with 2 oz. of coleslaw "on" the sandwich...traditional Memphis-style. However, some customers request that it be on the side and not on the sandwich. Did you make that request? A 2 oz. portion of coleslaw is small. Our typical side of coleslaw is served in an 8 oz. cup and costs $1.10. Now if you order one of our "Down Home Baskets"...these sandwiches come with fries and a side of coleslaw (8 oz). We sell coleslaw in 3 sizes...individual (8 oz), pint and quart.

Anyway...it just occurred to me that maybe you received the 2 oz portion which customarily tops the pulled pork on a sandwich and is not an actual side dish.

If I'm wrong, please let me know.

Hi Patagoniamaniac.

Not sure what you ordered specifically...but the Rib Plate (which comes with 2 sides and garlic bread) comes with 5 bones...and the Rib Basket (which comes with fries and slaw) comes with 4 bones...if the bones are on the small side, another bone will get added either case. We also sell by the 1/2 slab and full slab.

Our ribs are smoked for 4-7 hours...often, it's the par-boiled ribs that are super moist and fall off the bone. I would say that our ribs are tender, and easily come off the bone but they are not comparable to par-boiled and oven-roasted ribs/wrapped in foil (super moist) which some are used to. I guess it comes down to personal preference...but our pit-smoked ribs are in large part very well-received.

Out of curiosity, how many ribs do you think would have been suitable for the price you paid?

Our prices are based on the quick-service market...and comparitively speaking, for Oakhurst, can't get a rib dinner or lunch in town for a better price.

Thank you for the feedback...I'll pass on the information.

Would like to go to the Carnivale...could be a way to celebrate my 10th wedding anniversary with my 7-day a week workin' hubby! Gotta get a babysitter lined up though. Thinkin' about it.

So far, I've loved everything I've had, and the first time I went I had the pulled pork sandwich, but it didn't come with coleslaw, neither on the sandwich or on the side...guess I'll have to look for that next time. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink420.gif I LOVE the fries, just wondering, did you change them, I could have sworn the first time I went they were like steak fries and the next time they were the crinkly kind..just an observation...definatly not a complaint http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/stretch.gif

Hi Mysteefied.

Your first time was at the beginning of our first week http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink420.gif...and yes, we did serve a different fry. A steak-fry variety. It was a promotional, limited time offer fry from our supplier. Todd thought to try, bought up a bunch and sold them out...He decided to change to the crinkle-cut variety, though more expensive, because they hold up longer and take half the time in the fryer as the steak fries. We're stickin' with crinkle-cut fries.

OOps...your pulled pork should've come with coleslaw on it, unless you requested otherwise. Half of all PP orders request no slaw on the sandwich...guess some are either slaw haters or unwilling to experience the "new to them". Perhaps we can blame it on the newly trained crew for your lack of slaw http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wow1.gif...I think you and your significant other http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/yes.gif got a surprise rootbeer float too. We've come a long way since that first week! http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/stretch.gif Things have been running much more smoothly!

I had someone pick-up take-out for me from Todd's last week, I think. I ordered the bar-b-qued sliced brisket sandwich and a small side of pasta salad. It was so good! And it was plenty of food for me, I was definitely full and didn't even finish the whole sandwich!
I will be going there again and will make an effort to try other things, but I want to stay with the brisket sandwich http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/crazya.gif
In fact I think I will go there for lunch today, just thinking about it makes me http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/hungry.gif

Do the new fries have the seasoning on them?

Also when getting the fish & chips can the fries be served without the seasoning? I myself like fish & chip with unseasoned fries and I put Malt Vinegar on the fries, many others like it that way also. But you probably already know that http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/stretch.gif

I ordered take out last night and requested a chicken plate. I was craving bbq chicken badly.
when my husband came home he had a completely different order, because you were out of chicken. couldnt you of called? I gave you our number.no biggy,i ate the ribs and coleslaw was great..but, please... take the turkey off your menu. I'm just giving some constructive critisism here and being completely honest. it was processed sliced barbequed turkey and it was terrible. really, but my dogs loved it. Hi Patagoniamaniac.

I appreciate your honesty. I investigated the situation and understand what happened. I hope I can rectify the situation for you...I sent you a Private Message.

As I understand, yesterday was a BIG chicken day...we have those now and then. Todd had smoked off a whole case of chicken just before dinner and came close to running out completely by the time your husband came in to pick up the order (6:45-ish, we closed at 7). There was enough chicken for the BBQ chicken sandwich you had ordered. Your husband changed the order on his arrival to "The American Feast" which calls for 1b of each meat. Todd told him we had not a lb of chicken left (Big chicken day!), only a couple breasts left and asked him if smoked turkey breast would be okay. He said yes. The smoked turkey he used is the smoked turkey (good quality) we use for our turkey, avocado swiss sandwich which is deli-sliced and normally served cold. Sometimes for a special, we have it grilled for a turkey melt sandwich...which people LOVE! They grilled it up for your order which was not on a sandwich obviously. This is not customary or usual...just a quick, in a pinch replacement for the BBQ chicken in a feast portion. Which understandably is not equal. In hindsight, an extra lb of ribs or brisket would have been better!

I'm glad you enjoyed the ribs and brisket...and I do hope you have the opportunity to enjoy our BBQ'd chicken next time you have a craving.

Thanks again for your honesty.

Hi Newcomer.

To be on the safe side...just request "No seasoning on the fries" and your wish will be granted.

You'll find malted vinegar up with the hot sauces above the condiment station.

Dodgergirl,

I understand. I think the pasta salad needs more exposure...maybe we should be giving out free samples and definately putting it on the special board as an accompaniment. It's not leaving just yet...and it may earn it's keep if we try promoting it.

Thank you Choco-Chick and Patagoniamaniac for your kind words. I am torn whether I should be responding to posts here...on one hand, it seems like it's meant for the patrons to discuss the local business...yet, on the other hand, Todd's Cookhouse is my business (my husband's too...it's our LIFE) and I'm compelled to respond to posts about it. You know what I mean?

The restaurant business is tough. Food is such a subjective thing... I appreciate reading and hearing all the feedback. We will listen.

Our business is new and it's very important to us. We need to know what you think and what you have to say...as I said in a previous post, "When we know better, we do better" --Maya Angelou.

I appreciate all the posts this thread has drawn...the dialogue has been very useful for me and hopefully to others as well.

Thanks again.

And thanks for comin' to Todd's Cookhouse!

Pasta salad is an everday menu item...listed right in there with other "Side Kicks". I think it hasn't been noticed as much as it is not a choice with the platters or baskets like the cole slaw, potato salad and chili beans...however, we will gladly substitute one of those choices with pasta salad if that is your preference.

We've got some new everyday items that are not even on the menu (yet!)...Garlic Fries (Fries topped with garlic butter and parmesan) and Hush Puppies. Peach Cobbler...with ice cream!
Some of our daily specials are taking off and may be permanent menu items in time.

We are just in our infancy...lots of growth potential here.

Hi, I stopped in for lunch this last Tuesday, on my way out of town. (okay, so I went from one end of town to the other, then back again http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/jestera.gif). Anyway, I got the chopped brisket sandwich, side of fries and a regular rootbeer float. My eyes were bigger than my stomach. Actually, I didn't realize the float would be so big. I do think a little bit less ice cream (I can't believe I am saying this, I LOVE the icecream) and a bit more rootbeer would be better. Also, the fries, I wish there was a smaller order, it was way to much for me to finish, but I really liked them. The sandwich was great, I liked that it wasn't "sloppy" bar-b-que, but wish I had known it came with peppers. Myself, I can't eat peppers, but would have loved a good kosher dill pickle with it. Anyway, not really criticizing, I know food likes and dislikes are very subjective and you can't cater to everyone out there. I do know I will be back and will be bringing the son and his family when they come up to visit me. I like the variety of the menu adn will be trying some of the other stuff. It was really hard trying to decide "ribs or sandwich, or ribs or fish and chips". The young man bringing the orders to the tables was really, really nice and I liked the way the young lady at the counter joked and laughed with the customers. (BTW, maybe labeling the napkin holder with BIG letters would help, I couldn't find it at first, I was looking for it over by the condiments, straws, etc., remember I'm old and half blind! http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/jestera.gif) Anyway, much success wished to you and your husband, it's a nice change to have this here in Oakhurst. http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/hungry.gif http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/stretch.gif

The burgers at Todd's are soooo good. I don't much like ribs or pork, so I hadn't gone there. But we were hungry and there isn't much selection in town (we went to Mariposa a week ago or so) so we decided to give it a go. The service was pretty good.. one woman seemed she was upset or something and was sort of rude. But the girl at the counter was nice, and the burgers were the best I have had in a long while in Oakhurst.

Fries were good too... and I liked the sauces...

They need fresh brewed Lipton Tea... then I would be set. And the bathroom was sort of messy, and one stall was out of order.

But otherwise delicious and I will be back again.

Todds??
ate there once and i do have criticism's
two of us had lunch a few weeks ago and to my suprise my

small fries small coke and chicken sandwich totaled $10.00
my friends small fries small coke and brisket sandwich also totaled $10.00

i have a little knowledge in the vendors the food came from. (for a fast food enviornment served with all paperplates plastic utencils styrafoam cups)the coke, the crinkle fries and the size and fixins on the sandwiches did not warrant $10.00.
love having the place here as an addition to the ever so boring food chains but $10.00 for a small coke crinkle fries and a mid-sized sandwich was rape.

this town in the long run i dont believe will support such a expensive meal.
will definately go back and try out other items but just a note prices may be a bit highhttp://oakhurstforums.com/icon/wink420.gif

IMO, Fosters Freeze was about the same price for basic hamburgers, I would gladly pay the money I paid for the burger I got... I hope that they are consistently so good.

BTW, I didn't get crinkle cut fries! I got shoelace or whatever they are called.. like McDonalds (the shape, not the taste)..

unfortunately never had a chance to eat at foster freeze.
but like i said ill try and go back for something like the hot wings and see whats up.
the fries? they were the squiggly fries not straight edges but jagged. like you buy at vons ida brand or something.
im just looking at reletivity within the town for food of that calibur. this town is huge with price comparisons, petes 1 pound burger with a garden of vegetables on top with enough fries to feed the badgers football team and a coke for $7.00. burger or big sandwiches at mountain house or burger king are all in the $5-8 range with a coke.
if you had a burger when you were there and thought it was that good than thats what ill have the next time i go there and see whats up.

Sorry you felt you were overcharged or "raped". We are not full-service, nor fast-food...we are somewhere in between, quick-casual). And our prices are somewhere in between too. Restaurant pricing can be looked at so subjectively...it seems you were comparing us to your average fastfood chain restaurant. Were you thinking a sandwich, fries and a drink should be priced like a Burger King Value Meal?

Todd's Cookhouse is a specialty restaurant...not serving frozen processed, prepackaged meats that are par-cooked and ready to heat. We don't just sauce any ol' meat and call it barbecue.

Everythings cooked and prepared in house except for our crinkle-cut fries and our 8 in' french rolls (which are grilled to order). All our barbecue meats are bought in whole sizes (with the exception of chicken breasts)...whole briskets, whole racks of ribs, whole pork shoulders...We smoke them all up to 12 hours in our $5000 Ole Hickory Smoker (this ain't Burger King). We chop, slice and pull our own meats.

Unfortunately, often times, when you order items piece by piece...it can add up. The way I see it you ordered the BBQ Chicken sandwich $5.25, small fries $1.29 and a reg coke (20 oz refillable is our small) $1.29...You may have paid with a $10 bill, but you didn't pay $10.

We do offer value meals and specials daily. Often a sandwich, fries and a drink for $6.95. And our menued baskets (full meals) start at 5.95. We have something for everyone...

You're the first I've heard to complain about our prices...and a rather strong complaint too.

All I can say is we came up here to give Oakhurst great food at great prices...not price gouge or short change people.

And our frosty treats do start at 99 cents!

Hope you come back and try us again!

Thank you for your opinion, ROCK40. I really do appreciate it.

I just didn't want readers to think we're price gouging. And I'm sorry you didn't feel you got your money's worth. I still think you got your pricing wrong or maybe you ordered more than you've stated to come to $10 (did you get the garlic fries or buffalo chips, large boat--$2.59 and maybe the 32 oz drink $1.79)---trying to see how you could have paid $10 with so much certainty. Regardless, you felt you paid too much...and I'm sorry for that.

Anyway...you'll love our burger! And check out our specials...we have a constantly running Mon-Fri lunch special with a chopped brisket sandwich, choice of fries, cole slaw, or chili and 20 oz drink for 6.95. Does that sound reasonably priced?

I think that is the best cole slaw I've had in such a long time! The chili didn't seem to have much flavor, I liked the corn in it I put corn in my turkey chili, but it just seemed kinda bland... And the garlic bread was good. The chili really didn't matter though as I had plenty to eat and I thought the price was reasonable.

honestly though...you may want to come down on the price just a bit..I also felt the items were a little pricy. People like a great deal..it keeps them coming back..
I miss the sierra city grill so much thier ribs n chicken combo was the best. my favorite was the 1/2 rack pork ribs and 1/2 chiken for $8.95.and you got coleslaw and fries with it.. I still use thier bbq sauce, they sell at Vons..but, why dont they sell the spicy one anymore?...

Sure, we'd all like cheaper prices on everything, but I ate at Todd's for about the same as I would have spent at one of the fast foods restaurants for a meal that wouldn't have been as tasty. I got the seasoned fries, chopped brisket and small rootbeer float for as I recall $8.44 when I went. I didn't consider that unreasonable at all. And I couldn't eat it all, that was one big order of fries (it was the side one, shown on the menu above the sandwiches) Heck, they even brought it out to my table, I didn't have to get back up and get it. Definitely not a "fast food" venue.

I ate there last night with the kids...and I too noticed the chili being bland. You must've got the same batch, as you were in there last night. I brought it to Todd's attention...today I had some chili, during my shift, and it was seasoned and spiced just right. Sorry, you and I both and I'm sure a few others got the bland chili!

A week or so ago, someone from Narrow Gauge Inn came in...was it you? I forgot to ask...blond hair with a male. Brisket Melt out on the patio? If it were you...it was I who recommended it.

My wife and I were in town last week and finally managed to eat at Todd's.

After the buildup from this board - I wanted to say that we were not disappointed. We ordered the Shrimp Po-boys and even sweet talked the front desk girl into two orders of hush puppies (yum).

Service was great and the food was even better.

By the way - did they ever catch the "Mailbox Bandit"?

Hey Alice - I need to ask, do you have two types of beans there? When we went in for dinner, I got some that were like chili beans and then I had your beans again at a party which ordered the catered, large sizes and those beans were more like a BBQ cowboy bean with steak in them (awesome!). I want to come in and pick up a big container for mother's day but I want to make sure they are the BBQ type and not the chili type. Help!

Todd does have BBQ Beans (Pork 'n Beans style with burnt ends of the brisket)...sweet vs. spicy - as with the chili beans. Call the Cookhouse @ 642-4900 tomorrow and tell them you would like to pick up whatever size BBQ beans (not chili) at whatever time...and you'll get what you want. For catered events, the choice of chili beans and BBQ beans is available. Also with catered events, you'll find Texas-style bread and butter opposed to garlic bread. And roasted potatoes. Just some variances with the catering menu and the restaurant menu.

"Corporate agenda OFF; Experimentation ON" The beauty of running your own restaurant...some catered items may become cafe items, and vice versa. And we can often make substitutions and personalize any menu item within reason.

I tried to eat at Todd's after work today but after standing at the counter waiting to order for about 5 minutes (with two other customers, one who was already waiting when I came in) I left!! Last weekend we were very late getting to dinner, and of course the only thing open was fast food...my mistake suggesting just getting some KFC...OMG, I was so sick for the rest of the evening...chicken was, well, old and burnt, and I was starving so I ate it anyway... at least I now know I will never eat KFC again...ever!!!

I had Todd read and respond to Shansard http://oakhurstforums.com/icon/anxious.gif Trying our darndest to do everything right...we up our staff during peak times, lower it during the slower times...but can never truly predict how things will go. Hate to ever keep a person waiting too long (even for 5 minutes).

We have upped our business hours 30 minutes each day...if people come in right before closing, we'll take them and keep the dining area open. So far it has not appeared beneficial to stay open beyond 7:30 Sun thru Thurs, and 8:30 Fri and Sat. As summer approaches, longer hours may be warranted. We are also in the process of applying for a beer and wine license...and that may draw a later dinner crowd. Todd had thought to try closing on Mondays, being the slowest day of the week...but it never happened. He's still there each and every day.

Why does every new place in town (The Grind too) feel they need a beer license to make money? I no longer go to the Grind because of this license... I thought it was a coffee shop, not a bar. As far as Todds getting beer.. I wondered why there were peanuts on the tables now. (joking) I don't think it is neccessary to have beer/wine at a BBQ place such as yours.

oakhurstleaf

Well, I don't know why a coffeehouse would have beer or wine, but maybe YC&R is morphing into a nightclub.

We're not planning to sell wine...just a few labels of bottled beer. Beer does go with barbecue...kinda like it goes with pizza. We've had numerous requests for beer, particularly with the dinner crowd. We're not going to turn into a bar...it is about the food for us!

Yeah.. seems it is turning into a nightclub.. I see the beer at The Grind a desperate act.. they poured too much money into re-doing it, raised the prices, and were losing the locals that frequented.. and if you lose the locals in the winter/off-season you are screwed. So beer seemed an easy out..

As far as beer with BBQ, you're probably right.. but won't that affect who you can and can't hire (age limit on serving alcohol).. maybe not.. and the beer won't stop me from eating there..

I think it's cool that YCRC is serving beer. I can see how someone that doesn't drink may not like that, but for those that enjoy a beer after work in the evening, this will be a good new alternative for the people that would rather not go to a bar.

rimar
May 12, 2005, 07:34 AM
this should probably go on a different thread but my opinion on the changes at YCRC -

Obviously whatever the previous few sets of owners were doing was not working, otherwise the business would have been more profitable and would not have been sold numerous times now. The new owners apparently realize that if they do the same thing it wont work either. They are simply using what is available to them to make it worth staying open. Coffee is generally a morning beverage. Nobody will sell as much coffee at night as they will beer or wine. I am glad they have made the changes they have made because it means that our beloved "Grind" will be around that much longer.

I don't see any reason why you can't secure a license to be able to serve alcohol at your establishment. It is an option for the business to florish so take it.

oakhurstleaf
May 20, 2005, 05:13 AM
I agree. Before we even opened for business we were seriously planning to sell beer, but we opted to wait and give it a go without for awhile. But with the later evenings and dinner really picking up, it's something we really should do now. The application is somewhat intense and we've yet to fully complete and submit, but will in short order. It may take up to 30 days before a license is granted.

We do have a few underage employees; however all are at minimum 18...which means we can sell unopened bottled beer. Maybe personal size wine-bottles too. We really don't have the ability to facilitate tap beers or a full bar anyway...so that's just not a place we would want to go or could go.

Surfus,

I'm very sorry you were not pleased with the size and quantity of your fish 'n chips. It's quite possible that it was at a time when our normally larger pieces of cod fillets were substituted with smaller pieces due to our supplier being out and sending us the smaller cod pieces. When that happens our cooks and Todd (whoemever on the line) would or should add fish to make up for the size. Portioning is by weight, not count. Same goes for ribs which can sometimes vary in weight. And a generous amount of fries are standard for baskets...including the fish 'n chips. It also comes with coleslaw. (unless you order the kids' fish 'n chips)

Regardless, you were not happy with your order and well, we're in the business of making people happy...

Please check your PM, Surfus.

Sorry Todd but I have to say for the Price the 3 shrunken pieces of fish and small handfull of fries are just to worth the money.

You guys are doing a great job, and just wanted you to be able to convey some customer gratitude to your staff...oh, yeah, the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw was to die for, too!!!

I was very happy with quality food I had for lunch but I just thought the price was a little high for the amount of food that was in the box. they were VERY SMALL pieces of fish. but you are right it just might have been an oversite on the cook. it was last Wednesday around 11:30am
I guess im just spoiled with Fish N chips you get at the coast. Or the TOO LARGE of portions you get at Petes place.

Went there over the 4th, we tried calling several times because you might close early, and was told to call back in an hour the last time, we called back with 45 minutes, and was told you would not take our order because you were closing early, but thats cool I can understand, we went back the next day, and orderered for the gang, and only compliants were the Garlic Fries were small portions and it was dripping with oil, and the fries were soggy, the father in law tried the chili, and hates corn and it was in your chili this time, I myself love the chili so I ate it http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif

Thats all, just small complaints, but still love the food, might pass on the Garlic Fries next time, they were soooo good the first time we tried um, but the last 2x not good...

Thanks for your feedback, Mibrew. The restaurant did close early on the 4th (maybe 4 or 5)...and in hindsight may have well just been closed all day. It was deader than a doornail...not surprising when most people are grilling in their own backyards or partying it up at the lake. And even being a holiday, think a lot of travelers had headed home to be back at work on Tues. Don't know what happened with regard to your phone calls that day...but will look into the matter. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Were your garlic fries to go? I find that the natural cut fries just don't hold up well in to-go containers...they steam up and get soggy, and throw some garlic sauce on 'em and it just emphasizes the fact. Perhaps the crispy crinkle cut fries should come back for that very reason. Definately going to have to do something.

Thanks again for the feedback, Mibrew. Appreciate your business http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/yes.gif !

Okay....I am not a picky person, or a person that looks to complain. I just really wanted to express myself on an issue that I had this evening at Todd's.

I placed a pick up order for the "All American Meal". I picked it up, paid and went to my car. I then realized that I would be easier for me to ask for some paper plates so I didn't have to go home and do dishes for the 5 of us. I went back in and asked the girl behind the counter for 5 paper plates. She looked at me like I was out of my mind! She then went to another girl and proceeded to ask her...then BOTH of them went to someone that was cooking and asked him! He looked at me, then looked at the girls and said something that I couldn't hear. The original girl came back to me and said "you can have the plates but it would be 40 cents!" WHAT!!! I just got done spending $40 for dinner and I have to pay 40 cents for plates??? Not that I didn't have the 40 cents, it is the point!! When I repeated 40 cents?? to the girl she turned to her two co-workers and the man behind the stove looked at me, then at his stack of plates and gruffly counted 5 of them out and handed them off.

I am sorry, but this made me feel extremely bad for asking for them in the first place. When I walked out I felt all eyes on me! WHY?? Because of 5 paper plates???

Not too happy about the whole thing. Our food was good though. Just don't like getting treated like that.

For the record, I go to KFC and spend $19 for our dinners and they go out of their way to ask HOW MANY plates, napkins, forks, etc. etc. do we need??? Sorry for the complaint, I don't want to cause any static. Cause as I said above, the food was very good.

I ate there Sunday for dinner. Had the chicken burrito special... they screwed it up somehow (the cook said that he made it too small) so I got coleslaw and chili for free.

It was soooo good! I was so glad I got the chili because it is the best chili I have ever eaten. Keith got his standard Cheeseburger and fries.. back to the crinkle ones, which were delicious.

I love this place!

Nascar8fan,

First let me say that I'm very sorry you were made to feel uncomfortable for the extra-charge.

The All American Feast is a take-out special (it states "Take-Out Only"). It's $36.95 and a $47 value. $47 is what you'd pay with all that you get in the feast to eat in-house. For those who don't know...a Feast consists of a full slab of ribs, 1 lb of chicken, 1 lb of brisket, a quart of potato salad or slaw, a quart of chili, BBQ sauce, and garlic bread. It's designed to take home and serve it family style at the table. On our new take-out menu (which you may not have) it states the added charge for paper, plastic, wet-naps, etc for the feast at 40 cents per person. It's figured in by their cost to us. For example, one Chinette plate cost us 20 cents...no big deal it would seem. It's not a cheap paper plate. But every 5 plates is $1 and 500 is $100. It does seem ridiculous and piddly, but the Feast is such a savings and like a catering package....buying prepared food in bulk saves money, but there's often a surcharge for the extras. I think the best thing to do, if this seems like a problem to many, is just up the Feast price to account for the cost of paper and plastic and just give it to everyone whether they need or want it. Sometimes families order the Feast to eat in-house, and they are told about the 40 cent per person charge for paper and plastic. Haven't heard any complaints until now. But I can see how someone could be put off by an added charge they didn't expect, nor understand. And it sounds like even our cashier and cook weren't sure how to deal with it. I'm glad you got the plates free. We'll have to fix this issue for sure. Again so sorry. And thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Am I crazy or did I just read that you charge for paperplates whilst eating the American Meal IN your restaurant? I noticed you have tip jars up front. I suppose that if you expect people to pay extra for paper plates while they eat in your restaurant they don't have to tip the cashier.

I simply can not believe that people would not complain about having to pay extra to eat off paper plates supplied by your restaurant. What do you expect these people to do? Bring their own plates? How absurd! Perhaps the better idea would be to up the price a dollar for the All American Feast.

I know if at Me and Ed's tonight (where I ate dinner) tried to charge me .40 for a paper plate, I would of thrown their pizza back at them.

If you make a dinner for people to take home to eat, you absoluetly should be prepared to supply the plates, forks, etc. This is a tourist town afterall and some people will eat in their rooms. Maybe you will get away with charging them money to get a paper plate or two, but the locals?

I have eaten at your restaurant four times since it has opened. I would not of taken kindly to being told that I should pay for my paper plate (especially after buying a forty dollar dinner!).. My family owns a restaurant, and there is no way we would of gotten away with that.

Can you not see this from the other side of the counter?

oakhurstleaf
Aug 01, 2005, 07:01 PM
No, I can see what you're saying.

But what I'm saying is that the All-American Feast is a "Take-Out Only" special. It is designed to be taken home and served at your table, on your plates at home.

The Feast is $10 cheaper than if you were to order separately a rack of ribs, a lb of brisket, a lb of chicken, and all the extras. If someone wants a "Take-Out Only special" and wants to open it up and serve it in the restaurant...then what does "Take-Out Only" mean? Some people have no problem paying 40 cents per person extra to make the "Take-Out Only" an in-restaurant feast. Others might prefer to pay $10 more to just order off the rest of the menu and get the same thing. $2 more to make a take-out only offer in-house...or $10 more to order everything separately?

I think we should just up the feast $2 to account for paper and plastic, and there's no questions. Sound good?

I know of many restaurants who charge a minimal fee for paper and plastic with take-out...it's not odd to me. But obviously it is to others.

My expectation would have been to receive the plates, utensils, etc. also - since when we order out, we are usually heading to the lake, or the same reason, don't want to cook and clean.

I guess its about expectations.

It's decided. Paper and plastic will come with the feast regardless. I can see where it would be expected, even though I also understand Todd's concept of the home-replacement meal...as in our All-American Feast.

Y'see the feast is not portioned out for individual servings...5 separate dinners. And doesn't include drinks. It's prepared food in bulk to be divied at the home table. Sure, if you're going to the lake or a picnic, anywhere where you don't have a serviceware, paper and plastic would be a must; hence, the P&P charge. It's a home-replacement family meal and not standard take-out (i.e. ordering individual meals off the menu to take with you).

We've sold a lot of feasts in our 6 months of operation thus far...but if there's any controversy or misunderstanding about it, let's fix it right away. P&P included from here on out.

Alice, Did the Cole Slaw change to a new type anywhere in the past few months? The past few times I have eaten there I noticed a difference in the taste. I have to say being a cole slaw big fan I notice the slightest of changes and in my own opinion it's not as good as it was but most people will probabaly not even notice it's just my overly sensitive slaw tounge. If its hand made it could jusat be a slight inbalance of ingredients the past few times. Maybe it's just me???

Hi Newcomer,

Yes, the slaw is home-made. I know that the ingredients have changed some. Less mustard, no mustard...maybe in another way. I'll find out. Todd's tweaked the recipes of the potato salad, the slaw and the chili over the last few months to improve or enhance...I'd rather hear you like the new slaw better, but sometimes well, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"....I'll see what Todd's doing different with the slaw. The recipe is consistent, though as I say...he sometimes changes it (ironic, I know). It's prepared in 4 or 5 gallon batches.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, the slaw is less sweet. I'll put in a word for you two. I personally like the sweeter slaw, myself. Y'know the original cole slaw recipe (the sweeter one you're familiar with) is Todd's grandmother's (refered to as Nana).

Nascar, we've never had hotdogs on our menu. For kids, we offer cheeseburgers, chopped BBQ beef sandwiches and fish 'n chips...all in baskets with fries, softdrink/milk, and a frosty cone or cup for dessert.

I know we specialed chili-dogs before. I'm not sure about hot dogs being a constant as we offer so many meat choices as it is...and there's something to be said for all that we do offer. Hot dogs...hmm, something to consider. Could try it as a kid's special and see how it does. MY 5 yr old son is a big hotdog/corndog fan...he'd go for it.

Everyone's opinions are welcome and considered. I do take seriously Newcomer's feelings about our coleslaw and other's as well...particularly Newcomer, as he's a coleslaw connoisseur http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/yes.gif. What's most important is that the majority of our patrons are happy...realistically, it would be impossible to please everyone all the time and well, there's some people you can NEVER please and will find fault with anything or everything...we all know people like that. Every opinion and criticism will be considered...but we will not necessarily act or change on just one person's opinion. Example: A man orders a chocolate milkshake...if you know our shakes, we top them with whipped cream and a cherry. The man receives his shake and throws a minor conniption fit/scene over the whipped cream and cherry. Our countergirl offers to spoon it off...oh no, that would never do. He needed a whole new shake. Okay. So what I'm saying...should we just stop topping our shakes because of this one particular guy. Of course not. But we ask customers now whether they want it topped or not...guess what? There is generally no one who wants it this guy's way...There's some things we can't alter for everyone's whim.

I do appreciate the feedback here...it gives me a sense of public reaction and feeling, which we also get in the restaurant on a daily and constant basis...and in someways is more real and spot on than what is written here. Like MtnEagle said about Oakhurst's favorite pastime http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif Keep it coming! I can handle it. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/yes.gif

You should have celeb's sign the plexi-glas vents with a perm marker when they come in. That would be a good purpose for them.

Now there's an idea!

We did have him autograph two plates for us...one for the restaurant and one for an employee's teenage son. Shall I just afix the plate to the tube? Maybe he'll stop in again on his way out of town? I'll be sure to have a ladder on hand so he can climb up. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/laugh.gifOriginally posted by Newcomer:

Alice,

Stopped in Saturday night late (8:30 p.m.) and I've got to tell you you guys are really doing a wonderful job...I never really expect too much from any restaurant right before closing time, but the food was great even at that late hour...don't know how you do it, but am sure glad you are so consistent.

Kudos go out to your very friendly and attentive employees also. You've got a great group together there!!!

Oh dear.....we just went there for the first time last week, and I fell in love with their slaw....hope they don't change it. (Before, KFC's was my favorite.) I had clam chowder and wouldn't order that again, but that is simply a matter of choice.

Spicy fish 'n chips? Our fish 'n chips aren't spicy. We do sprinkle a barbecue seasoning on our fries, but it's not spicy. And we stopped using creole seasoning on our popcorn shrimp about 6-7 months ago. No spicy fish.

When did you try our fish 'n chips?

Ooooh you piqued my interest...checked the Travel Channel's schedule. There are three 1-hour episodes beginning at 8pm.

It's called "Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie" airing Thursday, Jan 5. Episodes 1, 2, and 3 are at 8, 9 and 10 PM...repeating again at 11, 12, and 1.

I know when he and his friend (also with British accent) came to Todd's, there was no camera crew or equipment (unless it was in their vehicle). We were under the impression he had got away from Yosemite for food and fuel and maybe some essentials to take back to camp...but it will be interesting to see if they got any footage of Oakhurst or if the show is just about the Yosemite trip and climbing.

Thanks for letting me know...I'll try to watch.

Finally made it to Todd's last Thursday night. I loved how they have fixed the place up. The food and service were great. We both had the 1/2 rack rib dinner. I would say I've only had better ribs at one place and that was in Baton Rouge, LA. I love baby backs where the meat almost falls of the bones and Todd's definately meets that criteria. If you are looking for something between fast food and a formal sit down restaurant, Todd's fits the bill

Todd Leaf has realized his dream of combining great cooking, fast service and a fun atmosphere. He opened Todd's Bar-B-Que in Oakhurst a little more than a year ago.

French cuisine, wine trails, Crème Brulee, caviar and escargot are fine sometimes, for some people, but most Americans would really rather, to borrow a line from the movie "Almost Famous‚" just get some barbecue man.

Todd's Cookhouse Bar-B-Que in Oakhurst is easily one of the best places around for deliciously messy barbecue washed down with a cold brew or a glass of iced tea. You know it's going to be good barbecue when they hand you several handi-wipes with your meal.

Todd Leaf has been dreaming about cooking as far back as he can remember.

"When I was a kid and the family would fire up the barbecue grill I was fascinated," Leaf said. "It wasn't like some other kids who were interested in the fire. I was fascinated by how the meat cooked."

Throughout his life, Leaf has been involved in the restaurant business, working everything from bussing tables to cooking gourmet meals at a French restaurant in Las Vegas.

"I have cooked gourmet meals, managed a Del Taco fast food restaurant and cooked in some great barbecue restaurants," Leaf said. "Todd's kind of brings it all together. We serve high-quality barbecue served up right and we do it fast."

Leaf's interest in barbecue really got started in 1994 when he went to Nashville to try and sell some of the songs he had written.

"At that time I was trying to decide between a career in music or cooking," Leaf said. "I only had one call back on my songs but while I was in Nashville I found all these great barbecue restaurants. I was hooked."

Leaf calls his cooking "American regional comfort food."

"The trend today for restaurants is very casual," he said. "We are trying to ride that wave. Right now people are looking for the casual feel."

In 1995, after cooking gourmet food in Vegas, Leaf worked with a cook that was wearing a hat that said "Blake's Place." Blake's, it turns out, was a barbecue restaurant in Orange County. Leaf ended up working there and the owner taught him about catering and the business end of operating a restaurant.

It's no surprise that Leaf loved Southern-style cooking. Years ago he became a fan of Cajun chef Paul Prudhomme and was constantly buying his cookbooks.

"In 1993 or '94 I went to a book signing and met Paul at the old Bristol Farms in the Anaheim Hills," Leaf said. "I also watched him cook. He was amazing."

Leaf began collecting Southern-style cookbooks.

"I know it sounds crazy, but I would just look at the pictures and then try to make the dish. I didn't follow the recipes," Leaf said. "I just tried to do my own thing."

Then in 1999, Leaf heard about a contest being held by Kraft Foods. They were looking for recipes for barbecue sauce.

"The timing couldn't have been better," Leaf said. "At the time I was doing a lot of experimenting with barbecue sauces and I was making a new sauce every day. I heard about the contest and did some research. I learned that Kraft didn't have a Southwest or Santa Fe style barbecue sauce, so I entered my Santa Fe sauce. I entered a second sauce also, but the Santa Fe won. There were 10,000 entries in the contest."

Kraft put the sauce into production and it was their most successful new line in recent years, Leaf said. In fact, Leaf said, at last count, about 10 million bottles of Todd's barbecue sauce had been sold across the nation.

Leaf considered opening his own restaurant a couple of years ago while he was working in a New Orleans style restaurant in Disneyland. He had just about given up on the idea when his brother-in-law called him and told him about a restaurant in Oakhurst that was available. The next thing you know, Todd Leaf, his wife Alice and their three children moved to Oakhurst and opened the restaurant Feb. 1, 2005.

"The local community has been great," Leaf said. "They have supported us when the times were tough. Tourist season isn't that long and if it wasn't for the great lunch crowd and take-out orders we get locally it would have been tough."

All his meats are cooked using local wood. Currently he is cooking with Live Oak, Leaf said. Leaf's restaurant is certified in Serve Safe Techniques.

"Around here we all wear rubber gloves," Leaf said. "We go through a box of gloves every day. I believe that we have a responsibility to provide our customers with clean, safe food. Besides, I'm a bit of a germ freak."

So what makes good barbecue?

"The main key is knowing when the meat is truly done," Leaf said. "It's not when the meat hits the right temperature, its when the temperature is right to break down the fibers. Cooking low and slow is important. Every piece of meat is different. Every fire burns differently. You can't just put the meat in, turn on a timer and walk away.

"Cooking barbecue right can only be done by feel. That's why I never get to go anywhere; once the meat is put in I stay right here to make certain it's cooked right. That's what most restaurants don't get, they think it's about the sauce but the meat has to be right. It has to be the right cut of meat with the right amount of marbling and you have to babysit the meat.

"I love the Southern-Style street foods because it's all about the food. It's about portioning and quality. It's not about the plates or table cloths."

From the author ...

If you find yourself in Oakhurst, make sure to try Todd's barbecue ribs. It's wonderful to taste the smoke from the wood ingrained in the meat, covered in a sauce that is delicious and light. Combined with his coleslaw and seasoned French fries, it's a meal that's tough to beat.

During the interview, Lloyd Patton, who lives just north of Oakhurst stopped in for some food.

"I have been coming in here for about a month," Patton said. "I have tried about six different items on the menu and I just keep coming back. I want to try everything they have here. This time I just wanted to meet Todd and thank him."

If you are looking for good food, reasonably priced, plenty of it, served up fast, stop by Todd's Cookhouse Bar-B-Que in Oakhurst. If you're looking for overpriced pretentious food that leaves you wanting to stop at a fast food restaurant later, then go to the Bay Area.

It's all about the food

From the author ...

If you find yourself in Oakhurst, make sure to try Todd's barbecue ribs. It's wonderful to taste the smoke from the wood ingrained in the meat, covered in a sauce that is delicious and light. Combined with his coleslaw and seasoned French fries, it's a meal that's tough to beat.

Had dinner from Todd's tonight. In my book it remains one of the best places up here in Oakhurst. We have never been dissappointed in anything. Always, great quality, large portions and downright yummy. Tried the bread pudding for the first time - fantastic!! I hope this is one place that stays!!!!!!

Todd's is the best place I've been in town so far and among the best BBQ I've ever had. The family is also uniformally agreed that the garlic fries are the best we've had anywhere...and we've had quite a bit

My only suggestion is that I would stick with the krinkle cut fries. They get more crispy and seem to hold the "grease" better giving the fries a more even flavor throughout one order. The other kind just aren't fantasic though they are still good. In fact Ill be in today to get some http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/yes.gif

Monday is my only weekday for a leisurely lunch - I'll be working Thursday. But, DO enjoy lunch with hubby. School will be out before you know it and it may be a while before you get another chance for that! http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/wink3.gif

Hey...I just got back from Fresno and had my 2nd chemo session (in two days). I am really feeling out of it and don't have too much of an appetite http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sad3.gif http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/sad3.gif I thought I would be okay but I think these darn meds are getting the best of me. It even gave me a headache and I'm really shakey.

I so wanted to do this!!!!! Can we set up for next Tuesday at the same time????? That way it will be b4 treatment and I should be feeling good enough to eat that pulled pork sand and garlic fries!!!!!!! I am so sorry ladies, if you go, please have a cold drink for me. I didn't mean to flake on you. I was so looking forward to meeting you all!

Let's talk about Tuesday!!!!!!! The more, the merrier!!

Alice are you there? I ate at Todds yesterday and the pulled pork sandwich was great as usual - BUT - Todd had beer-battered onion rings on the specials board and I have to tell you - these were the best I have ever had. Please, Im begging you, ask Todd to put these on the regular menu !!!!

Bodie358, I'll let Todd know about the onion rings. Thanks for the feedback.

Surfus, You shouldn't overdo it. Slow down. Chew your food well. Allow it to digest...when you feel full, stop. Save the rest for later/take-home. We encourage our guests to go ahead and eat like a pig...but you don't have to take that literally. The Q reheats nicely...and makes a nice snack for later. http://oakhurstonline.com/icon/happy.gif
