you know I heard about this on the news. you know all it makes me think is how lazy people are getting. a birth control pill to help stop your period.. what the heck. why do we want to change things in our body? Our bodies are made to do things to keep it healthy and running right.now we can take a birth control pill to stop our periods. I think that will mess our bodies up anyways.
but I think it is stupid.

just my thoughts.

I'm looking at it on the sexual issue. Put men on Viagra a woman has her period and he wants sex. Soooo make a pill to stop women having thier period so the man can have his way. It's all about men isn't it? I bet you anything a man created this pill.

However; I to think its unhealthy. Where's all this going to go. Is it going to build up and create a blod clot. Doesn't make sense to me.

I had female problems years ago, and they prescribed that I take my birth control pills continuously (without the week off for my period) to try and control my issues. It keeps you from ovulating, as the hormone level stays constant. I asked my best friend (a doctor) if this was okay, since I was concerned about changing my cycles, and all of the research showed that it was safe. My sister used depo provera and it would keep her from having her period, which is a normal side effect from that form of birth control. So, I think that this type of treatment has been going on for a long time, it's just that a pharmaceutical company is promoting their version.

Depo is bad news. I have seen many a young women put on it.... with no education what so ever. Typically, one is supposed to (re)start on birth control 6 weeks after childbirth. I have had several YOUNG (under 25 and non smokers) who had abortions or miscarriages or delivery, and before they left the hospital or clinic were given their first shots of Depo.... Tis not a good thing to start Depo or other BC methods so close after delivery or abortion. The docs just want to keep these women from getting pregnant again. Tis not a pretty thing when a young girl comes into hospital with blood clots in the legs and or lung.
I don't want to even think about the thyroid problems that will develop from prevent the body from its normal rhythms. Men... can't they just play with them selves for one week outta the month and leave poor women alone?

That's an unfortunate situation with the depo that my sister did not encounter. Perhaps because she was older and has never been pregnant?

For me, I was only maybe a week between my periods and hemorrhaging for the next 10 days....I was so anemic, and put up with it for years, trying all sorts of remedies. It enabled me to cycle more normally, as I would break through, but not as often as before. I finally had to have a hysterectomy in my late 30's to deal with it. So, I think that there are circumstances where this type of treatment can be helpful, if used properly. It kept me from having a hysterectomy in my 20's, thank goodness.

Yes, I think folks will use this to avoid having periods altogether, and I certainly wouldn't advise my daughter to use this birth control. Like I said, I was concerned when my doctor tried the continuous bc with me.

Yes TallCoolOnes... for those unfortunate women who have mega bleeding.... drugs like Depo are a DogSend. But to avoid the cycles and ovulation just because you dont want the bother etc etc etc.. is silly. If your body works correctly.. don't mess with it!!! I am on Synthroid 175 mcg dailyfor life now because of using said drugs.... Provera and Premarin are nasty drugs... but very useful at times.... they help my female leukemics with low platelet counts from bleeding to death while on chemo and having low platelet counts.

I know a perfect way of birthcontrol ...teach your kids not to have sex until they are married. teach them respect and control and to tell them when you are married you should share that...

but NO our schools want to teach our children about this and sex instead of just your period.

oh gosh it makes me mad....

Interesting... About 10 years ago I had a hysterectomy because I had so many problems with painful periods and periods so heavy I often missed work and would vomit due to the pain. Before the surgery the Dr. tried Depo Provera and Premarin, which I understood him trying the "least invasive" method to solve the problem. Earlier this year my primary care physician discovered I had very low thyroid function and I am now on Synthroid and feeling so much better. I wonder if my Thyroid issues are due to the earlier use of the drugs.
